In our beautifully renovated building, you will find many projects
North Carolina
done by our Chamber Members! A
Granite Corporation
project that we are most appreciative of is the granite counter top in
our Visitors Center donated by North Carolina Granite Corporation. Doug Norman was the person to help facilitate that donation. We called Doug to come by and look at the visitors Center
newly built front counter to see about granite being placed as the
counter tops. He showed up in a flash asking what The North
Carolina Granite Corporation could do for the Chamber….wow! Thank You Doug!
Doug is Co-Chair of our Business Development Committee and
understands the importance of prospering Business Growth in our
area. His support on our board has been a tremendous asset to the
Chamber and its members. Doug has been with The North Carolina Granite Corporation for 36 years and is a resident of Surry
County. He is the General Manager –International Division, traveling and representing NCGC and Surry County making contacts
all over the world!
NCGC is a quarrier and fabricator of premium natural stone products, specializing in large scale custom applications. Their resume
includes many memorials such as the WWII

SMALL BUSINESS SPOTLIGHT
JOHN KIDWELL ….KIDWELL & COMPANY
If you have been in the Chamber’s newly renovated home, then you have seen the
beautiful visitor counter built by Kidwell & Company. This masterpiece is the focal
centerpiece of our Visitors Center. Kidwell & Company comes to us relocated from
Maryland. Owner John Kidwell was partially raised in North Carolina and moved
back four years ago. John acquired useful skills at an early age in his father’s workshop. His skills took him to Maryland where he managed a lumber company and managed one of the largest home builders in the metropolitan area. These experiences
gave John the ability and knowledge to tackle any task with confidence! He has recently opened Kidwell & Company as a remodeling company specializing in renovations and restorations of commercial and residential properties. He also still maintains
a very decent cabinet shop as you can see which allows him to do most anything with
wood.
If you think that is motivation, top that with maintaining a captain’s license for twenty
years and sailing the east coast and the Caribbean. He also has recently expanded on a
family idea for which he has applied for a patent called the Harbin Christmas Tree
Platform. This platform will allow you to decorate your Christmas tree with ease in
the tightest of spaces with the convenience of the option to fold for storage. It can also
be wired with power and plugs for your Christmas decorating! Get ready for the season! Call
John today to get yours.
Kidwell & Company recently joined the Chamber back in June. John has jumped in as a very
active member of our Business Development
Committee. He joined the Chamber for networking opportunities and to help promote businesses
in our area. Let John’s experience take your remodeling project to the next level! Give him a
call to discuss your next project.

Getting’ to know you !
Britta S. Needham - RBC Bank
“We are only fully alive when we are helping others.” says Britta Needham, Market Executive for RBC Bank. If you have ever been in a room with Britta, you know the room lights up
with her glowing personality. She truly cares about her community and the people who live
here.
Britta has 29 years of banking relationship experience. She credit’s Betsy Love, a family
friend, for her adventure. Betsy called her about a position at Workmen’s Federal upon
graduation from Surry Community College. This began her successful career in banking and
her relationship with this community. She admits she started off with more of a timid personality in regards of being placed in front of an audience. She contributes being a part of organizations such as Surry Scan, The American Business Women Association, The Mt. Airy
Rotary and the Greater Mount Airy Chamber of Commerce for bringing her confidence to the
front table. The experiences and skills she has gained through participation in community
events have carried over to her business relationships. She has learned that taking opportunities as they come along are opportunities to grow personally and professionally. “I admit I
have a servant’s heart and believe you can never give too much back to your community
through volunteerism.” We are so excited that she will bring her leadership skills to the
Chamber as our incoming 2010 Chairman of the Board. Britta currently serves as our Chair
Elect & Vice Chair of Education.
Britta just celebrated her 12th anniversary with RBC Bank. “I have a dedicated staff committed to the RBC vision of earning the right to be our client’s first choice by delivering the level
of service and expertise needed to make RBC the best Relationship Bank in Mt. Airy.” Britta
says one of their many goals is to exceed clients expectations. They are currently offering
free financial reviews. You can call RBC to establish an appointment to discuss your financial goals and to develop a plan to achieve them.
Britta is married to her best friend Jeff Needham
and has two beautiful daughters Brittany 26 and
Meagan 24. She enjoys shopping, reading, golf
and gardening in her spare time.
Thank you Britta for all that you do!
