Monday, Sept. 8th • 9:30pm
Charter members of the “British Invasion”
in the 1960s, THE WHO — Roger
Daltrey, Pete Townshend, John Entwistle
and Keith Moon — had been on hiatus
for more than a year when they assembled
at the Gaumont State Theatre in Kilburn,
North London, on December 15, 1977,
to record a concert for Jeff Stein’s
documentary The Kids Are Alright. Filmed
before an invited audience, it would turn
out to be Keith Moon’s penultimate live
performance.

Pavarotti: A Life in Seven Arias
Sunday, Sept. 7th • 8:00pm
When Luciano Pavarotti died in September 2007, the world
lost one of the greatest voices in all of music. In celebration
of Pavarotti’s peerless vocal talent and extraordinary
international impact, this performance documentary looks
back over his legendary career, utilizing the arias with which he
was most closely associated as a narrative framework. From his
humble origins in Modena, Italy, A Life in Seven Arias follows
The King of the High C’s meteoric
rise, spanning his London debut
in La Bohème , his triumph in La
Fille du Régiment and his iconic
rendition of “Nessun dorma.”
In addition to a treasure trove of
classic Pavarotti performances,
also featured are new and archival
interviews with many of the
tenor’s friends and colleagues,
including Dame Joan Sutherland,
Plàcido Domingo, Jose Carreras
and Juan Diego Floréz.

At Nebraska Wesleyan University, a new generation
of crime-scene investigators pursues their Masters
of Forensic Science degree while a real headlinegrabbing murder case unfolds. MURDER HOUSE
alternates between the students processing realistic
but fictional crime scenes and the role CSIs played
in solving the 2006 murder of Jessica O’Grady.
Cameras observe real CSI officers as they prepare
for one of their most difficult cases, knowing
their work often determines the accused killer’s
conviction or acquittal.

My Generation, My Music
Saturday, Sept. 13th • 8pm
The enormously popular MY MUSIC series presents an extraspecial three-hour event focusing on the eternally hip hit-making
artists from the second half of the 1960s. THE 60s LIVE! – MY
GENERATION, MY MUSIC is a
treasure-trove of essential folk-rock,
rhythm and blues and pop classics
that still resonate with baby boomers.
Leading off the celebration of the
peace and protest decade are the
New Rascals, who perform their
chart-topping trio of blue-eyed soul
smashes People Got to Be Free (1968),
Groovin (1966) and Good Lovin (1966).
Roger McGuinn of the Byrds reprises
his legendary folk-rock group’s

DC, as she connects literacy with a baby’s developmental milestones during office
visits; Chicago’s Parker Child-Parent Center, which is becoming nationally recognized
for its intense focus on helping parents learn how to enhance their children’s literacy
development; Georgia’s Coralwood Diagnostic Center, which models the surprising
benefits of inclusion — mixing students with disabilities and mainstream students; and
Corpus Christi’s master teacher Rebecca Palacios, who manages a pre-kindergarten

Dark Matter
Thursday, Sept. 11th • 9pm
DARK MATTER--Host Neil
deGrasse Tyson reports from a halfmile underground in an abandoned
mine where scientists are using special
detectors to look for evidence of a
ghostly substance. They believe it
makes up most of the matter of the
universe — a hypothetical entity called
dark matter.
More than 25 years ago, filmmaker Hardy
Jones set out to learn everything he
could about
dolphins.
At the time,
no one had
conducted
studies in the
wild of these
enigmatic
creatures, and
many thought
it couldn’t be
done. Since
then, Jones
has spent more time with dolphins than
other humans developing unique insights
into what goes on in their sophisticated
societies. This is the story of his personal
journey into the world of dolphins, the
sometimes dangerous waters into which
they have led him and his continuing
crusade to protect them.

Letter from the General Manager
To Our PBS Family,
As our children and grandchildren head back to school,
KBTC‘s commitment to lifelong learning outside the classroom
remains unwavering.
In fact, our programs are considered among the most
reliable and trusted on television today.
Children and their caregivers can choose from over 35
hours a week of non-commercial, non-violent, and educational
children’s programming - programs that promote tolerance, model positive social interaction
and address one of our community’s foremost concerns: Helping children start school, ready
to learn.
Debbie Emond
With that goal in mind, we’re debuting two new programs designed to support
children’s learning at home. Reading Rockets, an award-winning series of innovative halfhour programs about how children learn to read, why so many struggle and what parents and
teachers can do to help. Martha Speaks also begins in September with the goal of engaging
kids and expanding their vocabulary.
Sadly, it is estimated that almost half of our children are not emotionally or
developmentally ready to start Kindergarten. Studies show that if they start behind, they
stay behind. KBTC is committed to changing that. Through our involvement in the Pierce
County Early Learning consortium, our investment in producing programs reaching out to
families and caregivers, and our air-time dedicated to educating the public about caregiving
resources; we are proud to help the children of our community start school, ready to learn.
In the meantime, whether you’re interested in learning the latest scientific findings,
satisfying your curiosity about the natural world, picking up the newest sewing technique or
developing your reading skills with the Sesame Street gang, there’s an opportunity to discover
something new every time you tune in to KBTC. Stay with us for exciting programming this
fall.
