Tourism Strategy
In 2012 Petawawa Council adopted a Tourism
Document that outlined a series of strategies that
would determine the viability of additional
tourism development within the Town of
Petawawa. Over the course of the past few years
the majority of these strategies were realized,
evaluated or are in the process of development.
It has been a very successful process that is a
shared goal of both industry and municipal
sectors.
A completed tourism asset inventory and a
broader tourism destination development plan
are now in place and offer the guideline for the
Working in collaboration with the Parks and
Recreation Department a number of

designed by Jay Hoots, the addition of a
high end splash pad, and a brand new track
now round out the myriad of diverse products offered at our Civic Centre Complex.

resources will be our focus and distinction.

Renfrew County District School Board
The Town of Petawawa proactively sought the
joint partnership of both school boards and in
a bold move donated land adjacent to the
Town Civic Centre for the construction of two
new school facilities.
In September, 2012 the newly constructed
Catholic school, at 22 Leeder Rd., St. Francis
of Assisi, opened its 26,000 square-foot
school to its 210-member student body. This
school replaces the one that was
previously located on Garrison Petawawa.
As part of this development, the Petawawa
Military Families Resource Centre in conjunction with the County of Renfrew and the
Town of Petawawa have created Lil Troopers
South day care located adjacent to the
St. Francis of Assisi school. This brand new
learning facility is licensed for 30 toddlers, 24
preschool children and can operate a before
and after school program.
The new Renfrew County District Public
School opened its doors in January 2015. It is
also located in the rotunda area at 19 Leeder
Rd., across from the newly built Catholic
school. The Kindergarden to Grade 12
school, named Valour, replaces General Lake
and Pinecrest elementary and General Panet
High Schools, all located on Garrison
Petawawa and deemed too costly to retrofit.

and 600 secondary. Both schools are
located within the heart of the Town
and jointly share the Civic Centre
infrastructure such as ball fields,
soccer fields, ice facilities and the
brand new track facility. Long term
transportation savings will also be
realized by these school developments through joint facilitation.
Our Snow Country snowmobile network
maintains more than 2400 km’s of groomed
trails. Petawawa is ideally location along the

Northern Ontario and around Algonquin Park
(RAP Tour)
