Seth Watkins, attorney and Semitic linguist with degrees from Brandeis, Stanford and the University of California, will trace the history of the revival of Hebrew as a spoken language and the life of Eliezer Ben-Yehuda, the man who made it possible. October 18 • The Golden Age of Jewish Achievement Author Steven Pease raises two questions in his thought-provoking book: Are Jews disproportionately high achievers? If so, why? His murals have graced the SFJCC, Coit Tower and Toland Hall on the campus of the UCSF medical center. Born in Poland, he immigrated to the Bay Area in 1921. On May 1, after a two-year $58 million renovation, the Oakland Museum unveiled their remodeled Art and History galleries. ASYV provides a home for children left orphaned by the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. Volunteer experiences may include work in the afterschool program, farm, or kitchen.
