Merry Christmas from St. Michael’s Parish Staff!
Looking Back at 2013 and Forward to 2014
St. Michael the Archangel has certainly had an exciting 2013! As our parish continues to grow so have our
ministries and outreach programs. This is a brief recap of some of our activities in 2013.
115 children were welcomed into our Parish Family through baptism.
175 children made their First Communion and 90 were Confirmed.
46 were welcomed into full communion with the Church through our RCIA program and several returned
to their faith through the Returning Catholics program. Many of our adults are growing in their faith through Bible
study classes that are facilitated by our Deacons.
Our parish ministries continue to serve our parish and surrounding community through your generous donations. Last spring your donations to the Baby Bottle Boomerang gave the Hope Center in Woodstock
over $15,000. Each month you generously donate to the second collections, including supporting the young men
from the Archdiocese of Atlanta who are in the seminary studying to become priests. Your donations each month
to St. Vincent de Paul have assisted hundreds of people with their rent and utilities. Donations to the Thrift Store
of clothing, furniture and household goods helped people provide for their families at a low cost. This year
St. Michael’s Food Pantry has been blessed by your donations of food, money and volunteers that work in the
pantry to help feed the hungry in our community. The pantry is now feeding over 125 families a week. Also local
merchants, B J’s, Kroger, Publix, Wal Mart, Flowers Bakery and Panara Bread, provide the food pantry with fresh
food each week. This year we were blessed to receive a grant so that the pantry could buy a refrigerated truck and
industrial freezers and refrigerators. Just recently over 460 Thanksgiving baskets were given to families in need
and the Giving Tree gave Christmas presents to many children.
But perhaps the Big Story this year was the Capital Campaign for our new Church! Because of your generous pledges we were able to go forward with the plans to build. The big trucks will be arriving in March to begin
construction. You are invited to a Mass and groundbreaking ceremony with Archbishop Gregory on Saturday,
March 8th at noon.
Construction of the new church and renovation of the current church into a parish hall is
expected to take around a year.
None of these activities could have happened without the help of our many volunteers. Whether it be a
Guardian of the Eucharist in Adoration; a Catechist teaching our youth; a Life Teen Core member; Usher, Lector,
Extraordinary Minister, Minister to the Sick; Altar Server, ladies of the Altar Linens and Sacristans; office
volunteer, our vacuum brigade and kitchen cleaners, decorating volunteers, picnic volunteers, the Columbiettes who
make blankets for the sick and shut ins; Soup for the Soul members who take food to the sick, the Knights of
Columbus who host our Fish Fries each year and recently helped with the construction of a home for one of our
families through Habitat for Humanity; and so many, many more, THANK YOU!
The parish staff would like to thank you for all your support. We couldn’t operate without our
volunteers. We are all blessed to be able to work with such a wonderful parish. We would also like to thank you
for all your Christmas cards and delicious goodies. We enjoyed every bite. We can’t wait to see what God has in
store for St. Michael the Archangel in 2014!
Saint Michael’s staff wishes you and your family a very
blessed New Year!
