WELCOME
The New Art Center supports the development
of visual artists and
cultivates a community
that appreciates art.
LETTER FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Dear NAC Community,
As we prepare this catalog, things are heating up in Newtonville -- and
not just the temperatures! Summer is rapidly approaching, and we’re
excited to welcome our youngest artists back again. It’s wonderful
to have young voices and buzzing, creative energy here for the ten
weeks of our summer program. Weeks are filling fast - sign up and
reserve space now. And don’t forget, we have a complete slate of
summer adult evening classes and workshops, too!
The New Art Center is thriving! We spent the last year listening to
you through surveys and interviews, and learning all we can about other centers have
grown and succeeded. We’re using what we’ve learned to make ourselves better, more
welcoming, and more focused on the community’s experience of art and of the New
Art Center. In the coming months, we’ll be growing and stretching ourselves to help you
deepen your connection with art in your community.
We also are deeply honored and proud that Newton’s Community Preservation
Committee recently awarded us a major grant to plan the rehabilitation of the beautiful,
historic church we call home! You’ll be hearing more about that as time goes by, but for
now, THANK YOU to all you Newton residents for your vote of confidence!
When fall comes, join us back in the studios for classes, events and workshops, and in the
galleries for a season of great exhibitions, opening with the Fellows of the Massachusetts
Cultural Council. In October, you’re invited to our grand dinner party, Palette to Palate, a
seasonal celebration of art and food, with special honoree Anita Walker, MCC’s dynamic
Executive Director.
As always, there’s something for everyone at NAC, and I look forward to seeing you here
soon at YOUR art center!
