33 DAY CONSECRATION TO MARY THROUGH JESUS
Several weeks ago a number of people in our parishes participated in the 33 Day Consecration to Jesus through Mary. Some people asked if we would offer this again as they were
busy and couldn't attend or they want to do it again. Below is an explanation of this program
for your information.

In the next 10 years, the number of priests in East River
South Dakota will decline from
92 to 55.
Vocations to the Priesthood do
not just magically happen. They
grow from seeds planted in the
minds of good men by their
family, friends and parish.
Plant the seed of hope and help
us build God’s family!

If you answered yes to any or all of the above please consider becoming involved in a week
program known as Marian Consecration. This simply means getting closer to Jesus with the
help of his mother. This involves daily reading and reflecting on the writings of some great
saints such as Blessed Teresa and Pope John Paul II. Then you gather in small groups
weekly to share what you have read and reflected on during the week.
If you would like more information go to: http://www.allheartsafire.org/33days/overview.php.
There are several ways that you can participate in this at-home retreat.
 You can get the retreat prayer book and go through it yourself.


You can get the retreat prayer book and the retreat workbook which offers four reflection questions each day and go over this material with a spouse or others.
You can join a small group using the above materials and meet on a weekly basis.
If you have the time available I highly recommend participating in one of the groups listed
below. The groups will run one hour and will go for 6 weeks. Please sign up and indicate
whether you would want to purchase a workbook (cost $20). We will give you the retreat
prayer book. We will begin the small groups January 11. If you have any questions please
give me a call at 966-5716.

NEW YEARS RESOLUTION
We all like to start over with new resolutions at the beginning of the year. I have listed below
some possible options for your consideration.

Go to Mass each and every weekend (even when you are on vacation or at your kid's
events).







Go to Mass one additional time during the week
Read the Word of God (the Bible) daily
Pray the rosary daily (perhaps in the car with your children)
Take 10 minutes of quiet time each day and be alone with God
Read the daily Mass readings
Go to confession quarterly
Shut off the television and all electronic devices for one hour each evening and spend
quality time with your family. (I did some research and I learned that no one has ever died
from this.)



Sit still and ask God: "What do you want me to do with my life?"
Say family prayers at meals and at bedtime
Be grateful every day for your blessings.

A Reflection for the week…..
A resolution for the New Year: We might resolve to start every morning with a
short prayer: “Good morning, Lord. Thank You for extending my life for one
more day. Please grant me a special anointing of Your Holy Spirit so that I
may do Your holy will today and avoid everything evil.” We are advised to
transform our daily work into prayer by offering it to God early in the morning.
We might also resolve to say a short prayer, every evening, the last thing we
do before we go to sleep: “Thank You Lord for helping me to do Your will
today. Forgive me, Lord, for saying ‘no’ to Your grace several times today. I
am really sorry for all my sins of the day. Please pardon me.” And, as we
close our eyes, we might say: “Good night, Lord. Father, into Your hands I
commend my spirit."
Just a little humor…..
Dad’s resolution: A son called his parents to wish them a Happy
New Year, his dad answered the phone. "Well, Dad, what’s your
New Year’s resolution?" the son asked. "To make your mother as happy as
I can all year," he answered proudly. Then mom got on, and the son said,
"What’s your resolution, Mom?" "To see that your dad keeps his New Year’s
resolution."
