very well. There were a couple of upsets but those
students were able to complete the tests on the

PHOTO DAY
Wednesday 1st June
Please only bring your
envelope and money on the
day not before.
Our Pupil Free Day was very successful with staff
members engaging in a range of different learning
activities. Some staff worked with the Kindy staff,
some worked with the Year 8 teachers and some
worked as a primary group on Mentoring for
Learning. In the morning we looked at the research
of John Hattie and started our work in the area of
Positive Education. We have had many positive
comments about the learning and the challenges the
day brought to a range of staff members.
Barossa Partnership Review Meeting
On Tuesday I attended the Barossa Partnership
Review morning. This was challenging but rewarding.
Students who are on school grounds before 8.30am and after 3.30pm are not supervised
and the school is not able to take responsibility for them. Before 8.30am students need
to wait under the shelter near the staffroom and after 3.30pm they are asked to come
to the office so we can supervise them.
DATE: 26th May 2016

WOW
Next Tuesday, the Reception to
year 5 students will be involved in
an environmental presentation by
Wipe Out Waste (WOW). Students
will be learning how to reduce,
recycle and compost waste.
SHE Programme
The SHE programme will begin on
Tuesday. Girls in years 3-7 are all
invited to be a part of this very
interesting
programme.
Bec
Normington
is
managing
this
programme and will be telling the
girls more about it in the next
couple of days.
School Photos
Next Wednesday is school photo
day. We expect all students to be
dressed in full school uniform on
that day. Any students out of
uniform will be very obvious in their
class photos. Please make sure you
have your envelopes completed and
the money enclosed for your child
to bring to school Wednesday.
Please do not bring money and
envelopes to school before photo
day. The photographers will deal
with the money and orders directly;
we do not have a role in the
transactions at all.
History Walk
I hope you had the opportunity to
go and explore the History Walk
the weekend before last. Our
students’ work was fantastic (as
usual) and they should feel very
proud of their contribution. Thank
you to Kylie Murray and Courtney
Adam’s students; Marg Underwood
and Sally Keane’s students and
Emilie Mazis’ students for preparing
work for the display. A big thank
you also to Kylie Murray for
organising our display.
Cross Country
Congratulations to all students who
participated in the District Cross
Country last week.
A special congratulations to:
First place in 9yo boys Kaleb White.
Fourth
place
in
10yo
girls
Mackensee Rossack.
Seventh place in 11 yo girls Shari
Davis.
Third place in the 11yo girl’s team
event: Shari Davis, Hannah Quodling
and Cassie Clayton.
Mackenzie
Rossack
will
now
represent the district at Oakbank
on the 9th June.
We had 52 students representing
NPS from year 3 up and there were
over 580 runners from around the
district.
Cross Country is a real challenge
and everyone who participated
should be very pleased with
themselves for completing the
course.
Choir
Congratulations to Marg Underwood and our choir. The choir was assessed
last week and received a B grade. Once again our students performed very
well, behaved perfectly and were wonderful. Thank you all for your hard
work and commitment to the choir.
Auditor
This week we have had the auditor here reviewing our finances. As
expected, we received a very good report, which supports the great work of
Ali Eberhard. Well done Ali.
Working Bee
Thank you Adele White and the Grounds Committee for organizing the
Working Bee. We had approximately 10 parents and teachers here working
to clean the school and do the extra things needed to make our school look
better. The students really appreciate the efforts of those who attended
because their school is much cleaner now.

GERMAN
NEWS
2016
Over the past two weeks, classes have had the opportunity
to witness the life cycle of a Monarch Butterfly. We have
continued the theme of The Very Hungry Caterpillar – Die
kleine Raupe Nimmersatt, with a focus on its lifecycle and
the associated German vocabulary.
Thanks to Mrs Underwood for sourcing the caterpillars! We
have been able to set up a suitable environment within the
German Room for the caterpillars to eat until they were full.
On Monday morning of week 4, classes were greeted with 6
cocoons. In approximately 2 weeks, we should be seeing
butterflies emerging – we are all very excited.
Some of the German vocabulary we
have been learning includes:
Ei – egg
Puppe – chrysalis
Raupe - caterpillar
Schmetterling – butterfly

I would like to extend a
HUGE thankyou to the parents, children and staff
who gave up their time to tidy up our school at the working bee. The school looked
amazing. We were so lucky with the weather and achieved a lot. The German school
was operating at the time and they were impressed with the work that was done.
The comment to me was, “You must all really love your school, to give up your
precious time on a weekend!” The assistance was really appreciated.

Successful Choir Assessment
The School Choir 2016 had their annual assessment on Thursday 18th
May. For a young inexperienced choir their performance was amazing.
Their overall grade was a B, again impressive as the South Australian
average is a C.
As their choir teacher I’d like to congratulate them all on an excellent
assessment.

RAA Visit
On Wednesday of Week 3, we had a visit from the RAA who ran a fantastic
Street Smart workshop for 5 lucky classes. Our guest speaker, Hilary,
highlighted the importance of things such as seat belts, helmets and roadcrossing techniques. Students who attended each session took home a
flashing light or reflective tag for their backpacks to help them be more
visible to motorists when walking, skating or cycling on the roads.
