University City Rocks! - Philadelphia
Whenever Wednesday
Institute of Contemporary Art
118 S. 36th Street, 215-898-7108
On any given Wednesday evening you can be sure to find
a free lecture, film, conversation or reading taking place at
the acclaimed Institute of Contemporary Art. Whenever
Wednesdays are a series of public programs that
complement the exhibitions on view and invite the public
to share in the experience, interpretation and understanding
of the work of established and emerging artists.
The Bridge: Cinema de Lux
4012 Walnut Street, 215-386-3300
University City’s state-of-the-art movie theater blends entertainment and
technology. The Bridge features wall-to-wall screens, Dolby DIGITAL EX Surround
Sound®, stadium seating, and a media room with six plasma screens creating
a visual multi-media art gallery, featuring award winning short subjects,
behind the scenes look at popular films and anticipated movie trailers.
We also know where to find the best happy hours and best spots to
watch the game! Fiume (229 S. 45th Street), Dock Street (701 S.
50th Street) and the White Dog Café (3420 Sansom Street) made
the cut on Philadelphia Weekly’s “Philly’s Top 50 Bars” list. But,
the diverse University City beer scene only begins there! The
neighborhood features serious local brews and craft beers, such
as those at Local 44 (4333 Spruce Street), plenty of flat screen
TVs to watch the big game on (visit The Blockley Pourhouse, 3801
Chestnut Street), and unique happy hour spots such as Slaínte Pub & Grill (3000 Market
Street), Mikey’s American Grill and Sports Bar (3180 Chestnut Street), Distrito’s “Cantina”
(3945 Chestnut Street) and Landmark Americana Tap & Grill (3333 Market Street).

MarBar
200 South 40th Street, 215-222-0100
Chic and sophisticated, urban and chill—the
newly renovated MarBar is the place to go in
University City for live music, guest DJ’s and an
overall really good time. Recently partnering with
LiveNation, MarBar has been booking Philadelphia’s
hottest names in music, drawing in an eclectic
mix of students and local music aficionados.
Sitting atop Philadelphia’s famous Marathon, the
same great food and service translates upstairs.
University
City Rocks!
University City is home to a number of
venues in which live music thrives. World
Cafe Live (3025 Walnut Street) features
national and local adult contemporary
acts on two stages nearly every night. Millcreek Tavern (4200 Chester Avenue) hosts touring
and local rock bands nightly. The cozy Green Line Café (45th and Locust) programs an
eclectic mix of unique acts and artists. And, the International House (3701 Chestnut
Street) and Annenberg Center for Performing Arts (3680 Walnut Street) present the best
in jazz and world music.
At night, University City is animated by a dynamic mix of
students, neighbors and visitors. It’s a lively place to sip
cocktails and drink the best in craft beers, to hear live
music, or to simply explore. Whether you’re experiencing
contemporary art or the performing arts, reading your favorite
book at a cozy café or enjoying international cuisine at an
intimate BYOB, you are always guaranteed a great time. We
hope you’ll explore University City and continually discover
what makes this neighborhood so unique.
