I find it rather amusing that most of us will say “change is good!” to one another but secretly often find change rather annoying in one way or another. For example, my husband reorganized and cleaned our garage several months ago and moved all the trash cans outside to the side yard. Great idea, gives us more room in the garage…this is a good change! Except that now the old place we used to put items to go into the recycle bin doesn’t make sense, and we didn’t think about a new place for those things to go. Sounds like a small and silly thing, but in the hustle and bustle of everyday life it became annoying. If you’ve driven on Crown Valley Parkway recently, you’ve seen and been affected by the changes the City is making in the medians along the street. One of the things you’ve seen change is that green grass is being Heidi Fisher replaced by drought tolerant plants. Great change, we’re in a drought! But the process is a bit annoying and 2015 Chairman of the Board just as soon as you get used to which lanes are closed, the work crews move on and different lanes are closed. Proprietor Same thing if you’ve been in Crown Valley Community Park since the construction started…great changes Salt Creek Wine Company underway, but the process can be annoying. (949) 249-9463 So then, how hard is it to make change in your business? We all talk about how “business as usual” doesn’t work and the need to continually evaluate what we’re doing and look at ways to change…but it’s easier said than done. I’m as guilty of that as the next person…ask my husband! But the truth is that so much of life changes, sometimes very fast, and we get caught up in being annoyed at the process or the end result. We are creatures of habit and change takes us out of our comfort zone. Sometimes that is invigorating, but more often not. Just as you force your body to adapt to changes when you exercise, it takes effort to force your mind to adapt to changes in thinking. And we all know the more you do something, the easier it gets and the better you become at it. The 2015 CHAMBER OFFICERS & old adage “practice makes perfect” really fits here. So now let’s take that thought back to your BOARD OF DIRECTORS business…how often do you think about ways to change your business? To improve a process, product OFFICERS or service? Do you think all the way through it and map it all out? The more you do this, the easier it Chairman of the Board will get, the better you will become at it and the less annoying it will be. And the end result will likely Heidi Fisher, 249-9463 Salt Creek Wine Company be greater efficiency for you, your employees or customers and/or greater financial success. Who Chair Elect doesn’t want that? David L. Simpson, C.F.A. 395-4998 There’s an ever-growing need for the knowledge and information a financial advisor can provide… Let us be your guide. Whether you are preparing for retirement or have a need to invest funds accumulated within an existing retirement plan, you’ll know that you have taken steps to plan for your financial future.
