Design features 1.1 Construction: Typified by a rigid mechanical structure. The basic unit comprises the housing, table top, bearing, cam control system, drive motor with transmission and holding brake. Use in horizontal and vertical attitudes is possible with many motor arrangements. Additional assemblies are available for system expansion. The FIBROTOR© EM. can also be used as a built-in indexing table and in vertical version. 1.2 Drive, control cam: Drive is taken from the motor to the indexing table via a spur gear transmission and control cam system. The cam rollers are pre-tensioned against the control cam on both sides. 1.3 Positioning system: The table top is held without backlash in a precise position by the control cam and cam roller. A hydraulic table top clamping system can be used when tangential forces are high (higher stiffness, offloads the transmission components). 1.4 Bearing: The table top is mounted in a generously dimensioned bearing and pre-loaded both axially and radially. The additional assembly “strengthened table top bearing” is available to cope with large tilting moments, (e. g., when used as a vertical indexing table) or in the case of tensile forces on the table top (e.g. in installation “upside-down”). Table top Housing Bearing Seal 1.5 Centre hole: The FIBROTOR© is provided with a large, unobstructed centre hole. From size EM.12 on we have an opening through the housing side for energy supplies. 1.6 Direction of rotation: The direction of rotation is optionally clockwise (CW) or anti-clockwise (CCW). By direction of rotation reversal of the drive motor the indexing table can swing between the positions (position detection required). There are mechanical swing cams in special version (swing angle max. 90°). 1.7 Lubrication: Long-term lubrication by synthetic lubricants. Ambient temperature 0° to 40°C. 1.8 Life Expectancy: The concept is based on an operational lifespan Lh 10 = 16,000 hours. Service life of motor brake depending on brake system: Standard brake motor: 10–20 million operating cycles, Special brake motor: more than 60 million operating cycles, brake system is self-adjusting. Drive principle The design of the control cam ensures smooth, jerk-free running even under high loads (see ‘developed view of the control cam’). The cam rollers are pre-tensioned against the control cam on both sides. Index phase Dwell phase This allows a backlash-free transition from standstill into motion, and vice versa. The indexing time can be read of the load diagram against the moment of inertia. The time taken for the control cam to rotate breaks down into indexing and dwell times in a predetermined ratio. 360° Acceleration Dwell phase Index phase Dwell phase Speed 1 Movement 2 3 indexing div. 1 turn of control cam Cycle time 1 angular step Index motion: Modified sine motion with constant velocity or 5th order polynomial according to VDI 2143. The data for the indexing time (ts in s) refer to the actual motion duration. A division process goes from S12 to S12. Index time ts Start pulse 1 0 Drive motor “On” 1 0 Index table “turning” 1 0 S 10 „Index table stationary” 1 0 S 12 „Motor off“ 1 0 t1 The length of the mechanical standstill phase is displayed with a position sign. As from indexing division 16 there are several standstills on the circumference of the control cam. t2t3t4t5 t6 t7 t8 t9 t10 t11 t12 In pendulum operation we recommend fitting position detection. ° Running sequence diagram 1· 17989·2002·1 08 8 Right of modifications reserved 15.07.2003 14:29 Uhr Seite 2 http://www.fibro.com Technical description FIBROTOR® EM. and EM.NC. FIBROTOR® EM.NC. 2. Drive principle Drive is taken from the motor to the table top via a spur gear transmission and control cam system. The cam rollers are pre-tensioned against the control cam on both sides. Positioning is under NC control with position detection by rotary encoder. In the positioned state the cam can be locked without backlash by an electric brake. A hydraulic table top clamping system can be used when tangential forces are high (higher stiffness, offloads the transmission components). 2.1 Functional sequence of an indexing motion Prerequisites: Table top in random position, electric brake actuated (under voltage). NC control: data input completed. Electric brake de-energized. Acceleration and indexing through positioning motor, observe acceleration and deceleration time! (NC controlled). With the NC table at the required position, the worm shaft is locked by the holding brake. 2.2 Drive Motors Three-phase servo motors are fitted as standard drive equipment. It is also possible to use DC or hydraulic servo motors. For application with low accuracy requirements it is possible to use threephase standard motors in conjunction with a frequency inverter. Index time ts 2.3 Reference point The FIBROTOR® EM.NC has a fixed datum reference point to which the measuring system is calibrated. Approach of the datum reference point takes place via proximity switch. The switch serves to reduce the speed of rotational motion; the signal length extends over approx. 3 to 4°. The switch is not actuated in the zero position. Approach of the datum reference point can be either clockwise (CW) or counter-clockwise (CCW) rotation. ta n max ta 1 0 1 0 Drive motor Measuring system 1 0 Brake locked Proximity switch Datum reference point signal of resolver n max n min Rotational speed of table top n=0 ta ° ta 1· 17990·2002·1 09 Right of modifications reserved 9 15.07.2003 14:34 Uhr Seite 3 Technical description FIBROTOR® EM. and EM.NC. http://www.fibro.com FIBROTOR® EM.NC. 2.4 Holding brake The holding brake is energized to stop the worm shaft. Voltage: 24 V, DC Datum reference point switch Indirect measuring system Brake 24 V, DC 2.5 Measuring systems Various versions and levels of accuracy of incremental or absolute rotary encoders are used as a measuring system for recording the position of the table top. The information is determined according to the application and the NC control used. There are three possible measuring system arrangements: Indirect measurement (standard version) The rotary encoder is located in the worm shaft axis. The tolerances for the worm/roller gear unit contribute to the measurement. For the levels of accuracy which can be achieved, refer to data sheets. The centre hole remains free for energy supplies and other uses. Measuring system on motor The measuring system is mounted directly on the motor shaft, particularly for digital-servo-drives. The precision and backlash of the reduction gear are incorporated into the measured result. Only in conjunction with mathematically accurate reduction ratio. ° FIBROTOR EM.NC. with direct measuring system Direct measurement The measuring system is installed on the table top shaft. The accuracy of the measurement largely depends on the accuracy of the measuring system. The effects of errors, such as backlash in the gearbox, are precluded. For applications where demands for accuracy particularly high. The measuring system is operated through the centre hole. Not possible in conjunction with centring flange. 1· 17991·2002·1 10 10 Right of modifications reserved 15.07.2003 14:29 Uhr Seite 2 Technical description FIBROTOR® EM. and EM.NC. http://www.fibro.com 3. Principles of the service life calculation The service life is defined as the period in hours that elapses before peeling occurs over a predefined area. The service life of a correctly installed electromechanical rotary indexing table normally elapses once an alternating stress has caused peeling or chipping over a certain area on a roller or slider segment. The fatigue of materials is a statistical phenomenon, so it is not possible to predict the service life of an individual rotary indexing table. A number of apparently identical rotary indexing tables can achieve a broad spread of values under test conditions. 15.1 Calculated service life Lh10 The calculated service life Lh10 is the service life that is achieved or exceeded by 90 % of a group of apparently identical rotary indexing tables before the degree of damage due to fatigue reaches a certain magnitude. The design of this table is based on a service life of Lh10 = 16 000 hours. 15.2 Service life in practice Electromechanical rotary indexing tables have been used in production since 1969. The service life is regularly tested. Examinations of service life are available for all table sizes. Since 1998 an electromechanical rotary indexing table FIBROTOR® EM.13.0280.8.132.06.0.0.0 has been subjected to endurance testing at maximum loading, operating continuously for more than 35 000 hours up till now (corresponding to more than 83 000 000 operating cycles). No evidence of wear could be identified when checking the drive elements on a regular basis. In 1999 a FIBROTOR® rotary indexing table was examined for signs of wear and overhauled. Prior to this overhaul, this rotary indexing table had been running in 3 shifts in the automobile production since 1982. All drive elements had been still in proper working conditions. 15.3 Service life of motor brakes The service life of motor brakes depends on the number of operating cycles per minute, the indexing time of the rotary indexing table, the motor speed and the ambient temperature. Standard brake motor (box 3, reference numeral 1) Service life of the motor brake: 10–20 million operating cycles, adjustment after 3–5 million operating cycles (see Operating Instructions). Special brake motor (box 3, reference numeral 8) Service life of the motor brake: 40–60 million operating cycles, brake system is self-adjusting. 15.4 Lubricants The lubricants are designed for a service life of 16 000 operating hours (see Operating Instructions). 10% 32.000h 48.000h 64.000h 80.000h ° 16.000h 15.5 Emergency stop operation Frequent use of emergency stop may result in reduced service life. For smooth start after emergency stop we recommend the use of pole-changing multi-speed motors, smooth start units or frequency inverters. Inching is not permissible at maximum mass moment of inertia. 1· 18008·2002·1 27 Right of modifications reserved 27 15.07.2003 14:34 Uhr Seite 3 Protection against Overloads FIBROTOR® EM. and EM.NC. 16. Protection against Overloads 16.1 Permissible loading of the table top To achieve perfect and lasting function of the indexing table, the loads or mass moments of inertia of the fitted jig plates, holders, etc. must not exceed the permissible values in the indexing time tables. 16.3 Unwanted operating modes The permissible mass moments of inertia for the FIBROTOR electro-mechanical indexing table result from acceleration and friction torques as well as from external forces (e. g. transport load torques in vertical use). The drive elements of the indexing table are subjected to higher loads in the following operating states that deviate from normal operation. • Inching mode Inching mode in the nominal speed of the drive motor is not permitted. If inching is required, a pole-changing motor or a frequency inverter must be used. The indexing table must be operated basically at slow speed in the inching mode. If it is operated in inching mode, then this means that at every motor stop and restart in the region of the indexing phase of the control cam the drive elements are clearly higher loaded. The load depends on the braking and nominal torque of the motor, the position of the control cam (transmission angle), the mass moments of inertia on the drive and power take-off and the efficiency of the transmission gear. • Emergency stop In an emergency stop the indexing table is braked between 2 stations, this results in an acceleration step change. The drive elements are subjected to higher loads on braking and restarting, as in the inching mode. Frequent emergency stops can reduce the life. A soft start after an emergency stop can be achieved by using pole-changing motors, soft starters or frequency inverters. • Collision In a collision of the indexing table the drive elements are extremely loaded. The level of the kinetic energy of the system and the still possible deceleration distance due to elastic deformation determine the forces that can lead to damage of the drive elements. • Overload An overload exists if the dynamic forces due to a too large moment of inertia, transport load torque, tilting or friction torque or too high speeds lie above the application determined in project planning. • Stop outside the dwell phase Faulty setting of the limit switches, an overload or brake wear can lead to the indexing table not coming to rest in the region of the home position (dwell phase) in the intermittent mode. The drive elements are subjected to higher loads on braking and restarting, as in the inching mode. ° 16.2 Protection of the drive elements against damage The attachments, jigs and units must be designed or monitored so that blockage during indexing is excluded. The drive elements can be damaged on blockage or collision of the table top. If the table top comes to a standstill between 2 stations because of a fault, e. g. due to a power failure, then the table top may be brought into its home position only by using the drive. The cam gearing is self-locking in the region of the end positions, therefore the movement of the table top is possible only by using the drive. If an inadmissible tangential moment is applied to the table top while the indexing table is at standstill, this leads to damage to the drive elements. In normal operation of the indexing table (starting from the home position) the built-up mass moment of inertia is gently accelerated and decelerated by the cam drive. In the case of an emergency stop (the indexing table is stopped in the indexing phase by the motor brake and accelerated again by the three-phase motor) there is an acceleration step change. This leads to a larger load on the drive elements and thus to a reduction of their life. We suggest the following measures to reduce these torque peaks: • Lengthening the indexing time or reducing the mass moment of inertia. • Soft start and slow speed with frequency inverter • Optimally adapted braking torque on the motor • Use of a pole-changing motor, so that the table top can be driven in slow speed from the emergency stop position into the home position http://www.fibro.com 1· 18009·2002·1 28 28 Right of modifications reserved 15.07.2003 14:33 Uhr Seite 2 http://www.fibro.com 16.4 Consequences of unwanted operating states Overloading the indexing table leads to a shortened life, a fatigue fracture or a force fracture of the drive elements. 16.5 Reduction of life The increased loads on the drive elements (gearing, control cam and cam rollers) must be taken into account in calculating their life. The number of the emergency stop operations and the level of the forces occurring influence the life. A life of Lh10 = 16 000 h results at an emergency stop rate of up to 3 shutdowns per shift. With 100 emergency stop shutdowns per shift the statistical life Lh10 is reduced to 5 600 h. These high shutdown rates can occur during start-up in the inching mode. In the case of overload or shorter indexing time compared with the permissible load data, the life is reduced according to the formula 10 Lh10 = (c/p) 3 . Doubling the mass moment of inertia reduces the life by 90 %. max. output torque 200% Protection against Overloads FIBROTOR® EM. and EM.NC. 16.6 Destruction of the drive elements Collisions cause higher loads and can lead to failure due to force or residual force fracture. The extent of damage depends on the load occurring. A single collision can stress the drive elements beyond the breaking strength limit and lead to a force fracture or to incipient cracking with later residual force fracture. 16.7 Emergency stop with the FIBROTOR® EM.NC. To avoid mechanical overloads of the indexing table, the acceleration time ta (see “Technical data”) must not be too low even in emergency stop. There are 4 emergency stop operating modes. Deceleration of the AC servomotor on the NC control. The motor brakes the built-up masses in the predetermined acceleration time ta. Deceleration time acceleration time ta Coasting of the AC servomotor (without its own motor brake) after switching off the NC control. The run-on of the indexing table depends on the built-up moment of inertia, the speed and the efficiency of the indexing table. Deceleration time acceleration time ta Emergency stop with motor brake. In this case the determined motor torque must not be exceeded by the braking torque. Deceleration time acceleration time ta Decelerating the AC servomotor by the peak current. In this mode the maximum permissible peak current must be checked. Just ask for more information on our full range of rotary indexing tables. The FIBROTAKT ® indexing table is an established range under continuous development and improvement. Produced for use as an indexing axis in machine tools, rotary indexing machines, production and manufacturing systems of various types. The FIBROTAKT® is used to mount fixtures and work pieces or as tool holders. A characteristic of the FIBROTAKT® is the principal function of clamping into a face gear, that affords high indexing accuracy and extreme rigidity. • High indexing accuracy up to ± 1,5” • High repeatability (20–30 % of the indexing accuracy) • High rigidity against applied machining forces • High reliability and long life Range available with nominal diameters from 100 to 2000 mm FIBROPLAN® FIBROTAKT® Flush-Mount Tables The well-graded range of FIBROPLAN® NC-Rotary Tables is characterised by the very extensive capabilities of the rotary table movement and angular positioning, both under full CNC-control. FIBROPLAN® NC-Rotary Tables are used on machine tools of diverse type and description, with the control of their rotational axis provided either by an additional control axis of the machine's CNC, or by a separate CNC-unit for the rotary table itself. FIBROPLAN® Rotary Tables are the result of progressive, noncompromising design concepts, aimed at utmost versatility and operational rigidity. These attributes, together with drive – and control elements of outstanding quality, enable the user to achieve: • unrestricted rotary positioning in freely selectable sequence and magnitude • positioning accuracies from ± 3” (direct measuring system) to ±10” (indirect measuring system) • high precision in terms of radial and facial runout, due to selected, preloaded radial/axial combination bearings of the largest possible diameter Range is available in any size from 160 mm to 1600 mm in horizontal and vertical execution FIBROTAKT® Flush-Mount Tables with face gear were developed for use on rotary transfer machines. The concept derives from the well-tried FIBROTAKT®-series and is based on the principle of combining indexing and locking in a non-lifting system of face gear rings.
