The Business of Memorial Day
May 25, 2009 11:00 AM
Downtown Milford
“ Remembrance” is Open for Business. Arrive early to share the emotion”
It is the business of remembrance and being "patriotic" that is the core and primary product.
It is the business of recording the gains and profits of gratitude and respect.
It is the business of referring to sales volume in terms of thousands of citizens coming together to say
thanks to those who have served or are serving in the armed forces of America. Since the Revolutionary War over 41,000,000 have served and over 1,000,000 from then until now have shed blood and
sacrificed their lives to defend our Country.
It is the business of considering citizens as customers, gathering to remember what has happened and
not complaining because of traffic or congestion, inconvenience, bad weather and not being able to
find a place to stand.
The business of meeting together as one large body, not to be entertained by this special event ... but
to show our respect as a community united... and to be part of the event, whether or not everything or
anything can be heard or seen from where you’re standing.
And what if it is cold or raining???? What better testimony could be shown to honor and remember
the shed blood of those whose lives were sacrificed, and to show admiration of our living veterans
who have or are now serving our Country than the sight of 10,000 umbrellas lining the streets of our
community each year, with a great multitude holding signs saying:
“Thank you veterans”
“Welcome home”
“We love you”
So, invest into this business.... Bring your children and start them off on the right path. Show them
how this business of honor and patriotism can grow and multiply. Your investment now will secure
its future..... And you will never lose.
Joseph M. Salvia, Parade Chairman
