Spring is finally here and with it new jewelry
collections to complement your spring fashions!
We look forward to seeing you this month!
Upon returning to Flagstaff after a wintry tour
of the east coast, we visited with several artists
who dropped by to see us with their new creations.
Jack Tom came by with four of his shorter style
necklaces, one of which he set with a lovely piece
of Bisbee turquoise we provided him. He titled this
gorgeous necklace “Turquoise Woman”. Next was Mary Tom
who presented three new and gorgeous necklaces: two all-silver
and one with a gorgeous combination of turquoise and orange
spiny oyster shell. Bruce Hodgins stopped by with his wonderful
creations as well from which we purchased several pendants, two
rings and five beautiful link bracelets with exotic stones such as
Montana agate, lapis and carnelian. He promised to be back with
some of his handmade silver chains which will add to the nice
selection of Italian chains we have built up for this show. Premier
gold smith Brian Clark made two 14kt gold rings – one a heavy
mans ring (over 1 oz) with gem grade Bisbee turquoise and the
other a stunning creation in 14kt gold, black Australian opal and
diamonds.
Alton Bedonie made two wide, heavy gauge silver bracelets
with purple spiny oyster shell, some lovely orange and red spiny
oyster shell pendants and earrings, and a most stunning fire agate
necklace with gorgeous oval stones. The color of these natural
stones is a rich chocolaty/cola with fiery flecks of reds, greens and
golds. We also have earrings to match! He is currently working on
another Larimar necklace and some all-silver earrings. We also
received some special requests from folks asking for Kee Yazzie
bracelets in 6 ½ and 6 ¾” lengths and at this writing Kee is happily
working on them using silver from Arvid‘s shop. In addition, we’ll
have a nice selection of Santo Domingo necklaces and earrings
by renowned artists Chris Nieto, Charlene Reano, Daniel Coriz,
Mary Coriz, Delphanita Calabaza, Lupe Lovato and others.
Our selection of Zuni inlay work is extensive and includes
many nice bird inlay designs. Also included in the Zuni collection
is a gorgeous needle point coral necklace by Brant Waatsa
Jr. which took an honorable mention ribbon at the 2013 Gallup
Ceremonial. In our down-time we made some stone bead
necklaces of Argentinean agate, tiger eye, Amazonite, carnelian
and green garnet, which are nicely accented with silver beads and
finished with nice big sterling silver hook and eyes. Great worn
alone or to give a unique accent to a favorite pendant!
From several collections we picked up a lovely ring by Lee
Yazzie, earrings by Howard Nelson, Dan Jackson bracelet, two
rings by Kee Nez, a 1980’s all silver rainbow Yei squash blossom
necklace by Francis Jones, sterling silver bolo by Thomas Byrd
with 14kt gold accents, and a rare Ray Tracey bracelet of hefty
weight in sterling silver.
Other top-notch artists whose work will be featured at this show
are Carl and Irene Clark, Jessie Monongye, Howard Nelson,
Vernon Haskie, Harrison Jim, Richard Tsosie, Sunshine
Reeves, Derrick and Delbert Gordon, Andy and Darrell
Cadman, Darryl Becenti, Albert Jake, Sunshine Reeves,
La Rose Ganadonegro, Geneva Apachito, Harlen Coonsis,
William Vandever, Wilbert Manning, Fadrian Bowannie, Leon
Martinez, Ruddell and Nancy Laconsello, Johnathan Nez,
James Bahe, Darrel Dean Begay, Lee Begay and many more.
We’ll have a fantastic selection of gifts (Mother’s Day is May
11!) and very collectible pieces to fit any budget so be sure to stop
by and see us!

POTTERY
Recently we acquired a few older Hopi
polychrome pieces. These include a Helen Naha
(Feather Woman) vase, a Joy Navasie (2nd Frog
Woman) bowl, and a seed pot by Maynard and
Veronica Navasie (Frog Woman family). Also
available are an Acoma seed pot with Mimbresstyle animals by Rachel Concho and Acoma seed
pots by Dianne Lewis. There will also be a nice selection
of Navajo horsehair pottery as well as etched pieces for sale. As
some of the colorful Mata Ortiz pots become available we will be
hand selecting several unique shapes and decorated pieces.
As always we have a great selection of impressive pottery for
your home decorating. Whether you want a molded or hand coiled
piece, we have something that’s sure to please.
SCULPTURE & KATSINAS
With the arrival of spring, the kachinas have returned from their
mountain home to once again live among the Hopi. Carvers have
already begun calling us with new pieces for sale. Expect to see
sun, butterfly, dust-devil, rain-bringing and other kachinas related
to the spring ceremonies.
Despite working 60 hour weeks at a power plant for the last
two months, Raymond Chee created a few sculptures for us (for
which we are very grateful!), including some Navajo Yei-Be-Chei,
and Laurence Dallas is once again carving after the passing away
of his gentle and kind father. We will have some of his new work on
hand.
At this writing we are working hard to gather as many fetish
critters as possible and are looking for pieces in new and different
materials.

SANDPAINTINGS AND ART
During the holiday shows, the new work by Sammy Myerson
was once again a big hit. Sammy’s ability to present true traditional
Navajo themes in such a contemporary form is second to none. If
you have yet to see his new work, you are missing out! We will
also be looking to add new work by Joe Ben Jr., Baatsoslanii
Joe and Bilson Kee to name a few. We will also be offering a few
select pieces for SHOW SPECIAL pricing. This is your opportunity
to acquire competition quality pieces at prices WELL BELLOW
retail.
Carol Lee Thompson stole the show when it came to framed
originals. We sold six of her fine pieces during our holiday shows
as well as framed prints. Currently we have two of her impressive
originals so if you are a fan, don’t miss out!
RUGS
Weavings not much larger than 3 feet by 5 feet are in demand
so we will continue to focus our attention on these sizes. Two such
weavings in stock include a beautiful 26” x 36” Tree of Life by Vanna
Benally and a 36” x 44” Two Grey Hills color eye dazzler by Verna
Begay. If you are looking for small accent pieces for tabletops
and the like, we have been finding some very nice small weavings
for this. They look great on a table under a piece of pottery or
alabaster/bronze sculpture. We are usually able to have 10 to 12
of these pieces in inventory. Additional accent pieces include two
Navajo rug pillow sets by Sally Arviso that will brighten up your
favorite furniture!
