Independence Hall Independence Hall was built in 1753 as the original State House for Pennsylvania. Why is it important? This is the place where the Declaration of Independence was approved on July 4th, 1776. Independence Hall is the building on the back of the United States $100 bill. In Colonial times, a cobblestone street ran in front of the building. The liberty bell used to be at the top of Independence Hall, but it was moved to a new center across the street. The Pennsylvania Assembly ordered the bell in 1751 to commemorate the 50-year anniversary of Pennsylvania's original Constitution. The passage on the bell reads, "Proclaim Liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof," from Leviticus 25:10. The liberty bell cracked during a test ring. While trying to repair the bell, metal workers purposely made the crack larger. Virtual Tour http://www.destination360.com/northamerica/us/pennsylvania/philadelphia/independence-hall/virtual-tour
