Award Winners at “Wings”
Christmas and New Year are knocking on the door.
It is the time of the year to be joyful and merry.
Enjoy the spirit of the season and wish your family, friends
and acquaintances a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

year filled with peace, joy, productivity and prosperity.

The October Wings of Saskatchewan Conference inducted a
new member of the Saskatchewan Aviation Hall of Fame,
recognized a Distinquished Airman, and presented two
Industry Service Awards.
Richard Mayson returned from flying Sopwith Camels in
France to partner with Angus Campbell and establish M&C
aviation. If there is a family tree of air operators in our
province, most operators have M&C as a common ancestor.
Dick Graham, Regina Airport’s CEO, is a Mayson descendant
and was present with his father to accept the honour.
Tom Ray is this year’s Distinguished Airman. Tom has trained
hundreds of pilots, flight-tested hundreds more, and managed
to work thousands of hours for Saskatchewan CASARA. Tom’s
training materials and practices are used across Canada. Tom
served as an ATAC Board member and made significant
contributions to ATAC committee work.
A Big THANK YOU to Stan and Kaye McLeod for donating
their Cavalier Model 102.5 to the SAHS. The aircraft is to be
restored to its original colours as seen above and will be a
great addition to our collection for all to see.

Gary Williams’ passionate leadership in researching,
publishing, and publicizing Saskatchewan’s and Canada’s
incredibly rich aviation history has won him great respect in
the aviation community. Gary is a writer and editorial leader in
many major aviation history journals in Canada. He was
presented with the SAC Industry Service Award.
Also presented with an Industry Service award was Chris
Oleson. Over the years Chris flew and managed air operations
for the RCMP. He is now Ops Manager for Saskatchewan
Government Executive Air and Saskatchewan Air Ambulance.
Chris’s extensive knowledge of regulations and Transport
Canada procedures make him a matchless resource. His
diplomacy and tact have raised the efficiency levels of SAC and
its members.

FAA Grants Terrafugia sUAS Exemption for Flight Testing

Terrafugia is still tweaking the
design of its TF-X, an electric,
semi-autonomous, vertical
takeoff and landing (VTOL)
flying car, which is slated to
be tested in 2016 and 2017.
This week, the company
announced that it will soon
begin flight testing with an
unmanned, one-tenth scale
model of the TF-X in order to
gauge its hovering ability and
collect flight characteristic
data, which will drive the
design choices on the final
prototype.
The FAA has authorized Terrafugia to operate small unmanned
aircraft systems (sUAS) in the TF-X configuration for research
and development. This exemption was necessary to allow
Terrafugia to conduct commercial R&D work with the sUAS, up
to an altitude of 400 feet and at speeds under 100 mph.
Terrafugia’s engineers are now building the sUAS TF-X model
and detailing plans for the extensive operation.

The Prairie Heritage Air Show Society
The board of the Alberta Aviation Museum Association is
pleased to announce the appointment of Jean Lauzon as
Executive Director of the Alberta Aviation Museum.
Ms. Lauzon has been Acting Executive Director since
February, and Assistant Executive Director since 2012. She
has been involved with the Alberta Aviation Museum for a
decade, serving as a volunteer before she came on staff. Her
background is varied, ranging from working as a military
airframe technician to spending time in the financial services
industry.
The Prairie Heritage Air Show Society Inc. (PHASS) of
Saskatchewan was founded in 1912 and incorporated
in 2012. The Society exists to enhance aviation and
the understanding of aviation’s role in the history,
economy and culture of prairie and central boreal
Canada by holding airshows and related events. It has
held events at the Prince Albert Airport in 2012, 2013
and 2015.
We are planning a major air show for 2017.

Ms. Lauzon takes the helm of the museum at a critical time.
The museum is reinventing itself after the closure of the City
Centre Airport, making the transition in to a more modern
professional museum interpreting the storied history of
aviation in Edmonton.

The "History of the Towplanes with the Air Cadet Gliding Program"

complete history of the towplanes operated by the five Regional
Gliding Schools in Canada:

Gliding School, Colour & Markings of the Regional Gliding School's
towplanes.
Each volume is full of historic facts & photos and are a "must have"
for anyone who has served with, or is interested in, the Air Cadet
Gliding Program in Canada.
Volume 1 – Pacific Region covers the towplanes owned and
operated by the British Columbia Provincial Committee as well as
No. 396 and 747 Squadrons. It also includes the history of the one
and only Grob G 109A Motor-Glider to be operated by the Air
Cadet Gliding Program. This “Special Edition” has 190 pages, filled
with 180 colour photos and full colour drawings of the paint
schemes worn by Pacific Region’s Cessna L-19 Birddog towplanes.
There are many details included about flying the L-19 Birddog
towplane with the Air Cadet Gliding Program.
