CELEBRATING WAIMEA’S 51ST ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PARADE & LOKAHI GIVING TREE PROJECT! Christmases Past in Waimea are fondly remembered for extremely chilly nights and the incredible generosity of Parker Ranch owner Richard Smart, who made sure everyone was remembered. To perpetuate this legacy, the community’s legendary parade and Lokahi Giving Tree Project help assure that no one gets left behind. Emcee Darde Gamayo, caroling with Ginger Bertelmann, Melissa Samura and Parker School students plus music by “Makeshift Heroes” from Honoka’a Jazz Band, and stories by Leningrad Elarionoff about Waimea Christmases Past! Free. Donations of “absolute necessities” welcome. Waimea’s famous parade features Santa, churches, clubs, youth and dozens of lighted trucks! Grand Marshalls are Waimea’s own Jessica Guilloz & Cheyenne Ho’opai, two keiki who have awakened us to how precious every child is and how many face huge obstacles. ROAD CLOSURE & SAFETY - 5:30-6:45 P.M. Expect delays! Please watch keiki and stay on the curb - emergency vehicles may need to pass. No candy throwing. Don’t park on landscaped areas, pick up rubbish and no tents on private property. NARRATOR STATIONS Keck, Ace, Radio Shack, Waimea Community Education, Bank of Hawaii, Shell Gas Station and Parker School. ONO FOODS ALONG PARADE ROUTE Benefits educational projects and supports the Lokahi Giving Tree! (Permission required.) Look for: ★ CHILI ‘N RICE, CHILI DOGS, HOT DOGS AND HOT COCOA at Bank of Hawaii corner, served by Waimea Middle School Leadership students; ★ HOT SAIMIN AND HOT COCOA served at historic Spencer House (next to McDonalds), served by Kamehameha School’s West Hawai’i Association of Teachers and Parents; ★ PORTUGUESE BEAN SOUP, SAIMIN AND HOT COCOA ‘N CRACKERS at Waimea Community Education (formerly Pioneer Savings), served by Waimea Middle School’s 8th Grade East Coast Trippers; ★ BURGERS, HOT DOGS, HOT AND COLD BEVERAGES AND TREATS, served by Parker School students and families on their front lawn. FIRST “LOKAHI GIVING TREE” BUCKET BRIGADE Volunteers to walk route before parade for donations. Please kokua! FARMERS MARKETS Waimea Homestead Farmers Market & Waimea Town Market. KTA’S WAIMEA CENTER - 10:00 TO 4:00 40 crafters plus free entertainment throughout the day as donations accepted. Will feature ‘A’oia!, Beamer-Solomon Halau O Po’ohala, Honoka’a Jazz Ensemble, Kuha’o Kawa’auhau-Case & Kevin Haleamau with Emcee Penny Keli’i Vredenburg. PARKER RANCH CENTER - 8:00 TO 4:30 30+ crafters. West Hawai’i County Band at 3:45 p.m. Santa visits with keiki for pictures 7-8 after parade. Donation to Waimea Lions and North Hawai’i Hospice for photos. HAWAI’I-MADE ‘CRAFTY HANDS & GIFTS, TOO!’ - 10:00 TO 4:00 Thelma Parker Gym. Dozens of crafters, plus food & door prizes. Non-perishable food donations suggested. Benita Salazar (960-9944). WINTER STAR PARTY - 7:00 TO 10:00 P.M. After parade at Canada-France-Hawai’i Telescope’s Waimea headquarters with members of West Hawai’i Amateur Astronomy Club. If inclement weather, the the public will be invited in to watch live scientific observations being conducted at the summit from the remote observing room. Snacks, coffee, hot chocolate – free. Rain or shine, join the fun! We target those who are struggling and not served by others. Recipient recommendations invited; all will be screened. All donations stay on this island. SUGGESTED DONATIONS Baby diapers, toilet paper, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bath soap, laundry detergent, feminine products, rice, non-perishable foods (especially proteins such as Spam & tuna), or gift cards from KTA, Foodland, local farmers markets, gas stations, Costco, Walmart or Target. Or consider adopting a family! LOKAHI GIVING TREES In shops and restaurants around Waimea – take a suggested shopping list and bring back a donation, or just contribute “absolute necessities.” Also, a temporary storefront next to Village Burgers in PRC will open Dec. 1 to accept donations up until Christmas eve.
