YES \ NO PLEASE CHOOSE A MORNING CLINIC BAND Rehearse: 10:00 AM–12:00 PM, Monday – Thursday Showcase: Thursday Night In the mornings, each student is part of a Clinic Band, the students will learn about many facets of music in a band atmosphere: history, music theory, technique, repertoire, charting their own music, and playing music that will aid them in becoming better musicians on their instrument. Clinic Bands are taught by some of the area’s most esteemed music educators. Students will be placed in a clinic band based on their personal musical preference, and they will be part of that clinic for the entire week of camp. We urge all students to step out of their comfort zone with music genre when choosing a morning clinic band. THE INSTRUCTOR CHOOSES THE SONGS FOR THE CLINIC BAND SET. This clinic is widely popular at The JAM. _____AMERICAN ROOTS – A historical journey of music performance medley that encompasses a collage of musical genres, born in the Americana Music Triangle (Tennessee, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana and Arkansas). From Broadway to Bourbon Street to Beale Street, including folk, country, blues, gospel, bluegrass, zydeco, and more. This clinic band will be one of the most exciting performances of the evening! _____NEO SOUL – New! – 1970’s-influenced soul music with influences from jazz, funk, electronica & Hip Hop. Inspired by amazing artists, Erykah Baduh, Jill Scott, Raphael Saadiq, Lauryn Hill, D’Angelo and Musiq Soulchild. _____DELTA BLUES – Born in the Mississippi delta and one of the earliest styles of blues music. Slide guitar and harmonica are the forefront in this band with soulful fiery vocals. Early artists were Bessie Smith, Ma Rainey and Papa Joe McCoy who later became the inspiration for the infamous Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Rory Block and Susan Tedeschi. _____COUNTRY HALL OF FAME – We love Country Music at The JAM and we are showing out the future stars of the country music hall of fame right here at The JAM! Instrumental and strong vocal harmonies with lead vocal. (Beach Boys, The Ventures, Dick Dale and the Deltones) _____TRADITIONAL FOLK OF THE 60’s – Explore the roots of Folk music and perform with the influence of Bob Dylan, The Byrds, Joni Mitchell, Joan Baez this is always a show pleasing band! _____GOSPEL PERFORMANCE-New! This one is strictly for the singers of JAM and an acapella performance. Only 4 of those who sign up will be chosen to render an amazing gospel quartet performance that will bring our audience to their knees! _____GYPSY FLAMENCO-New! Calling all acoustic guitar, percussionists and vocalists who are craving both a cultural and musical challenge! We want all of our students to learn the technique of vocal blending to ear perfection with their peers in an acoustic band setting. The songs chosen by our Clinician are anything but boring and one of the very best performances of clinics of The JAM. _____PIT BAND- Who ever says there is no money in music is crazy! As long as there is musical theater there will always be a need for a pit band to accompany the show. This is a great career and we are totally ready to prepare our JAM musicians for this opportunity. The only hitch is you MUST know how to read music, and If you can you are already ahead of the game for any audition! The Showcase bands consist of players who have a similar music genre preference, experience level, and age. The students are assisted by their instructor, if needed, but they mainly act autonomously to choose songs, name the band, and rehearse. Each student should bring prepared ideas (on their iPods, CD’s, laptops, or MP3’s) for cover songs that they want to perform in their bands. Students should also bring copies of lyric sheets. During the JAM weeks, Ensworth staff continues to operate on campus, tours are given, and other camps are being held. It is imperative that JAM students conduct themselves so as not to disrupt the school’s normal operations. It is a privilege to use the campus, and we must take care of the property. Any violation of these rules and policies may result in immediate dismissal from Jam Camp. No refunds of any kind will be issued. By signing below, student and parent agree to adhere to the Rules at all times, and understand that violations can result in expulsion from the JAM. STUDENT IS TO INITIAL AFTER EACH RULE. - Absolutely no drugs, alcohol, or tobacco products are allowed on campus. - Ensworth is a smoke-free campus – tobacco use is prohibited on campus at all times ________ - No foul language or reckless behavior ________ - Students have assigned places to be at all times of the day. My child/ward is eligible to participate in all of the planned activities offered by Jam Camp. Such participating is purely voluntary and may involve some degree of physical exertion. I further understand that any physical exertion associated with any activities involves some extent of risk and should not be undertaken by persons who have medical conditions or disabilities that prevent engagement in mild physical exertion. On Monday thru Wednesday, students are required to depart the campus at 3:00 pm, and on Thursday and Friday, they will stay through the evening performances. Very Important! Because each student is an integral part of a band, students are required to attend all days of camp so as not to disrupt the rehearsals and each student is required to attend all group assemblies on time- no excuses.
