Technical sheet for Pisgah
2012 Pisgah • Handmade in the USA using T3 technology • Tapered, shaped, oversized 3AL-2.5V titanium tubing increases stiffness where needed • Performance-inspired geometry identical to the Litespeed Citico enhances handling characteristics • Geometry optimized for 80 to 100mm fork travel delivers ideal suspension • Available as a frame only Litespeed Tech Feed: 2012 Pisgah If you want a tried-and-true straight-gauged titanium hardtail—without the usual titanium price—that also defies gravity when climbing, manages XC adventures with ease and shows off classic good looks while doing so, take home the handcrafted 2012 Litespeed Pisgah. In-the-know cyclists consider Litespeed the industry expert in titanium craftsmanship for a reason. Rather than simply emulating the work of other brands, Litespeed continues to handcraft new titanium models with carefully considered tube shaping for the best performance. The Pisgah’s geometry matches that of Litespeed’s esteemed titanium Citico, but beyond that equivalent, the Pisgah is a Litespeed original design, built in not only the top titanium bicycle factory in the U.S. but also in the entire world. Litespeed designed the Pisgah using 3AL-2.5V titanium tubing, as it is the same alloy used for fabricating aerospace hydraulics. The low-density alloy proves light and highly durable and is ideal for maneuvering up singletrack switchbacks or simply navigating a forgotten length of fire road. Plus, the alloy refuses to corrode, making the Pisgah resistant to both extreme weather and dirt damage. The Pisgah’s tapered, shaped and oversized tubing incorporate stiffness and flex where needed. Litespeed T3 frames such as the Pisgah are lightweight and nimble workhorses for those logging serious mileage. They couple performance-geometry with precision tube sets for exceptional handling characteristics. And the Pisgah’s 80 to 100mm of fork travel delivers proper suspension without compromising rider control. In short, the Pisgah’s simple, yet meticulous design offers a sweet ride at a sweet price. Legendary Litespeed Titanium Honored for groundbreaking innovation past and present, Litespeed landed among the top 15 bikes and products Bicycling magazine celebrated in its 2011 “Bike Gear Hall of Fame.” Litespeed’s first major influence on cycling occurred in 1986 when Litespeed “introduced ‘perfected’ titanium bikes,” wrote the magazine’s staff, whose gear editor is Andrew J. Bernstein. “Riders from the bike path to the Tour de France were soon lusting after ti’s dull shine,” the article continued. “We’re ecstatic Bicycling magazine chose to recognize us in its esteemed gear hall of fame lineup,” said Peter Hurley, CEO of American Bicycle Group. “We take great pride in our titanium legacy, but (CONT ) © 2012 American Bicycle Group | All Rights Reserved 2012 Pisgah The Get Up to Go Riders and testers alike say the Pisgah, “Climbs like a mountain goat,” “climbs like a homesick angel,” and “climbs like a banshee.” The 3AL/2.5V titanium tubing provides an incredible strength-to-weight ratio, making the Pisgah an extremely agile climber indeed. Asymmetrical chain stays deliver maximum drivetrain stiffness and power transfer so riders get the most for their muscle. A longer head tube creates a more upright position for increased comfort while riding technical trail. Litespeed built the Pisgah for the challenge of steep grades and the rough and tuff terrain like that found in the North Carolina forest it was named after. Legendary Litespeed Titanium have never rested on our laurels. It’s one thing to be a legacy, but Litespeed has no intention of being a relic. We strive for putting riders on the best-built bicycles like the Pisgah and continue to improve ride and performance across both our titanium and carbon fiber lines.” Handcrafted by the most skilled metalworkers in America, Litespeed’s titanium bikes have long been renowned for their durability and style. “It is an honor to see Litespeed recognized in this way,” said Steve Dunn, Litespeed’s international sales manager. “I think our 2012 line of carbon and titanium bikes are more exciting and more innovative than anything we have done so far. Seeing the Pisgah and our other bikes on the roads and trails around the world is extremely gratifying.” Dirty Talk Litespeed answers the hard and fast questions about the Pisgah Rider Q: How durable is the titanium Pisgah. I ride some pretty brutal terrain and need a bike that will last. LS: Aside from the strength of 3AL/2.5V, titanium has a high fatigue resistance. Fatigue is the slow formation of a crack, but with the Pisgah, you’ll have peace of mind. Plus, ti doesn’t rust or succumb to other types of deterioration. Q: I’m building up my new Pisgah frame. What are the details that I need to know. LS: Here are the specs: Standard press fit 1-1/8 head set, 31.6 seat post, 68mm English thread BB. Enjoy your new ride! Q: What’s up with the dimple on the down tube? LS: On a mountain bike, the junction of the head tube and down tube is a high-stress area. The down tube dimple not only allows for proper fork clearance but also maximizes strength at this very important spot. Q: What is the Litespeed titanium difference? LS: Unlike several other manufacturers, Litespeed fabricates its own tubing and does not supply tubing to other brands. Litespeed also creates a brushed finish as opposed to a glass-bead blasted ti finish, which can compromise strength and blemish easily. “Through meticulous design and engineering efforts, Litespeed has gone from humble beginnings to being an internationally recognized and lauded brand,” added Hurley. “Our 2012 bikes are proof that Litespeed as a manufacturer rides ahead of the curve.” © 2012 American Bicycle Group | All Rights Reserved
