Sacrament of Marriage Couples are encouraged to contact the Parish Office soon after their engagement to meet with one of the Parish Priests. The Archdiocese of Philadelphia requires that couples make arrangements for the Wedding no less than six months prior to the planned date of marriage. Either the bride or the groom must be a registered member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish for the Wedding to be scheduled. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick and Communion of the Sick The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available anytime upon request. Communion of the Sick for the homebound is arranged through the Parish Office and anytime upon request. The Sacrament of Holy Orders Any man interested in the Diaconate or Priesthood should contact one of the Parish Priests or the Vocation Office for the Diocesan Priesthood at 610-667-5778. This sale was a wonderful success this past Easter. Please make this one just as successful so we can continue the good work we have been carrying out! The pound cakes will be sold at $15 each. Mothers with Young Children On Tuesday, December 10th the Mothers of Young Children group will hold its Christmas brunch. All are welcome. We will meet from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m. in the Trinity Center. The Cub Scout Christmas wreath sale is underway! Two sizes are available for sale in the church vestibule. Thank you for your continued support! OLGC Annual Christmas Concert "A Christmas Blessing" Sunday, December 8 - 2:00 p.m. Mark your calendars now for our annual parish Christmas concert. What a great way to enjoy the true spirit of Christmas! The concert features the Children's Choir, Young Adult Contemporary Band, Schola and Adult Choir. It is a wonderful showcase of the talented musicians in our parish. A reception follows. Come and enjoy a wonderful afternoon of fun and friendship. Giving Tree Final Week The Giving Tree is now entering its final week! Please place your unwrapped gift (with the card attached) under the tree by December 15th. Your Gifts will be given to the residents of local nursing homes, St Francis Inn and St. Vincent's Church in Germantown. Just like last year ,some of "Christmas bells " will be asking for tuition aid assistance or gift cards to local stores eg. Acme or Giant. For your convenience these gift cards can be purchased at OLGC Script office. When you purchase your gift card from the Script office, this will also benefit our tuition aid program. Please put these gift cards and tuition aid gifts in an envelope marked Giving Tree in the Saturday or Sunday collection basket by December 15th. Please be an angel to those in need. If you have questions, or can volunteer to set up the tree, replenish “Christmas bells”, gather/ deliver gifts, please call Monica Pinciotti at 267-252-6500. Attention: Bereaved Parents On Sunday, December 8th, Compassionate Friends will sponsor its annual worldwide commemorative service for parents who have experienced the death of a child. Our Lady of Good Counsel parish in Southampton will participate by holding a candlelight Vesper service at 7:00 PM in the upper church. The service lasts about 20 minutes and includes prayer, scripture readings and moments of reflection. If you and/or a friend are interested in attending, please plan on arriving about ten minutes before the service begins so that you will have the time to set up a candle in memory of the deceased child. Participants are encouraged to bring along a candle, as well as a photograph and/or other memento of the child, which will be set up behind the candle during the service. Suskey will take place at the 5:15 Vigil Mass on Saturday, December 14th. All parishioners are welcome. There will be a reception with refreshments immediately following in the Msgr. D'Angelico Cultural Center. So that we may adequately prepare, if you will be attending the reception, please fill out the form below, and drop it in the collection basket or drop it off at the Trinity Center by Tuesday, December 10th. If you would like to make a casserole to feed the homeless men served by St. John's Hospice, please pick up a casserole pan and lid from on top of the freezer in the vestibule this weekend. Make a protein rich casserole serving twelve this week, freeze at home (important) and return it to the freezer when you come to Mass next weekend. Thank you for your generosity! Admission is free. OLGC Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids Beginning next Sunday we will start our new COATS FOR KIDS drive which will conclude on Sunday, December 22nd. We are asking every Parish family to consider donating one brand new child's coat, either a boy's or a girl's, in any size, style, color. Boxes will be placed in the vestibule of the church for you to deposit your coat as you enter for Sunday Mass. These coats will then be distributed by Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese. Again, thank you for your consideration and your generosity! Contributions to benefit this worthy cause would be greatly appreciated. Donations and sales will go to help John Paul II Academy High School in Uganda. The concert will Include: Bill Monaghan and Some Assembly Required, St. Raymond's Gospel Choir, St. Katharine Drexel Grade School Choir (winner of 2012 - B101 Christmas competition), and a prelude by harpist Paige Seltzer. Afterwards, join us for light snacks and refreshments and a jolly sing-a-long with surprise visit from Santa Claus himself. (4:305:00) So, bring the whole family out for this musical treat. 'Tis the season! Saint Francis Inn for the Homeless St Vincent’s How would you like more closet space? Please check your closets for outerwear that is too small or too big!! Please pack clean coats, jackets, vests, flannel or warm shirts for men or women, in paper or plastic bags and leave at the back of church near the media center. This year the March will take place on Wednesday, January 22, 2014. One bus is reserved for our Parish school students and the other bus will be available for all adults and their families who wish to join the March. The cost is $25 per person. Make all checks payable to OLGC KofC Respect Life. We strongly urge you not to delay in reserving a seat. The amount of Turkeys and all its fixins were in great abundance this year. We would like to send a special thank you to the parishioners who donated a Turkey dinner for a needy family and to those who gave a monetary donation. The donated Turkey meals were delivered to St. Helenas at 5th & Godfrey, & St. Williams on Rising Sun Avenue. The recipients of the meals are notified by letter and are from various neighborhoods/Parishes. Each year the hearts of so many continue to give to those who really need our help. O.L.G.C. is an awesome and giving Parish!!! We would also like to express a huge thank you to the following volunteers and businesses that helped make this Turkey Drive a huge success: OLGC Youth Ministry Group(they did an awesome job, AGAIN), Southampton & Warminster Giant, FTS Flooring, & Nick's Pizza. An extra and well deserved Thank you goes to the volunteers who drove into the city and distributed all the donations. It is a very humbling experience for those who volunteer: John & Conor Lynskey, Angela Venit, Dan Johnston, Jordan, Christian, & Jada Francis, Kevin Foster, Jackson Foster, Liam Grover, Nick Simon, Pat Bolton, & Craig Tindell. Special thanks to Jim Francis for his assistance to Youth Ministry and for driving the rental truck.
