Second Sunday of Easter
Welcome to St Mark’s Anglican Church
a welcoming, inclusive community where questions are
encouraged and everyone has a place at God's table .
We hope your time with us is special and that you are able to join us after the service
for tea or coffee and some morning tea. If you are visiting from another church or
tradition and you wish to do so you are welcome to receive the bread and wine of
holy communion with us this morning. If you prefer you can ask for a blessing or
simply remain in your seat at the time of communion.

The Departed
We pray for the souls of Ian Lindsay who died last week and Margo Conway whose
funeral took place on Thursday,
Not the empty tomb.
R.S. Thomas
Not the empty tomb
but the uninhabited
cross. Look long enough
and you will see the arms
put on leaves. Not a crown
of thorns, but a crown of flowers
haloing it, with a bird singing
as though perched on paradise’s threshold.
We have over-furnished
our faith. Our churches
are as limousines in the procession
towards heaven. But the verities
remain: a de-nuclearised
cross, uncontaminated
by our coinage; the chalice’s
ichor; and one crumb of bread
on the tongue for the bird-like
intelligence to be made tame by.
Scripture Sentence
Jesus said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your
hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe’,
John 20.27
Collect
Living God,
for whom no door is closed,
no heart is locked:
draw us beyond our doubts,
till we see your Christ
and touch his wounds where they bleed in others.
This we ask through Christ our Saviour,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever. Amen.
First Reading: Acts 5.27-32
When they had brought them, they had them stand before the council. The
high priest questioned them, saying, ‘We gave you strict orders not to teach in
this name, yet here you have filled Jerusalem with your teaching and you are
determined to bring this man’s blood on us.’ But Peter and the apostles answered, ‘We must obey God rather than any human authority. The God of our
ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree. God
exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Saviour, so that he might give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. And we are witnesses to these
things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.’
Psalm 118.19-29: page 348 of the prayer book
Second Reading: Revelation 1.4-8
John to the seven churches that are in Asia:
Grace to you and peace from him who is and who was and who is to come,
and from the seven spirits who are before his throne, and from Jesus Christ,
the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the
earth.
To him who loves us and freed us from our sins by his blood, and made us to
be a kingdom, priests serving his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.
Look! He is coming with the clouds;
every eye will see him,
even those who pierced him;
and on his account all the tribes of the earth will wail.
So it is to be. Amen.
‘I am the Alpha and the Omega’, says the Lord God, who is and who was and
who is to come, the Almighty.
Gospel: Luke 15.11-32
When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors of the
house where the disciples had met were locked for fear of the Jews, Jesus
came and stood among them and said, ‘Peace be with you.’ After he said this,
he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they
saw the Lord. Jesus said to them again, ‘Peace be with you. As the Father has
sent me, so I send you.’ When he had said this, he breathed on them and said
to them, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven them; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained.’
But Thomas (who was called the Twin), one of the twelve, was not with them
when Jesus came. So the other disciples told him, ‘We have seen the Lord.’
But he said to them, ‘Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands, and put
my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.’
A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them.
Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said,
‘Peace be with you.’ Then he said to Thomas, ‘Put your finger here and see my
hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.’ Thomas answered him, ‘My Lord and my God!’ Jesus said to him, ‘Have
you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not
seen and yet have come to believe.’
Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not
written in this book. But these are written so that you may come to believe that
Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that through believing you may
have life in his name.
In June 2016, Fr Jeremy, Liz Kolbe and John
Woodward will be walking 100km to raise
money and awareness for Oxfam Australia.
Teams have 48 hours to walk the 100km
trail, walking through the night until the end.
The event raises vital funds for Oxfam
Australia.
Our team, “Blisters on Buderim” is hoping to raise well over $5000 to help
some of the world’s poorest people. Our fundraising enables Oxfam to
continue its work delivering projects that support orphans and people affected
by HIV and AIDS in Southern Africa, that educate people in Laos on efficient
farming techniques and that improve Indigenous health and wellbeing in
regional Australia.
Please consider how you may be able to get behind us, either by sponsoring
us directly or referring us to others.
If you would like to sponsor us, please follow the link: http://oxf.tw/23692 or
place any donations in an envelope in the collection plate clearly labelled
Oxfam.
Everyone is welcome to join us at the Spit, Mooloolaba
on Friday 8th April @ 6pm for
Fish and Chips
Bring something to drink,
buy your fish & chips from your favourite fish shop
and enjoy the company of friends as the sun sets..
Monster Market Saturday 30 July!!!
Think about how you can contribute
to the Monster Market—go through
cupboards, sheds and storerooms
and find those things you no longer
need but might find a home
somewhere else.
Now is the time
to start making
jams preserves
or potting
plants.
There is a bag of limes by the front door
for marmalade making. Please help
yourself if you can make some lime
preserve for the Monster Market.
Thanks
Notices and Reminders
Welcome to St Mark’s this morning. We hope your time with us is special and
that you are able to join us for tea and toast after the 7.00 am service or morning tea
after the 8.30am and 10.15am services.
Thank you to all those who helped in any way over Holy Week and Easter:
readers, intercessors, LAs, flower arrangers, cleaners, tidiers, singers, service sheet
folders, musicians… and all those who came and joined the journey from Palm
Sunday to Easter Day. Don’t forget that Easter goes for fifty days and the
implications of the resurrection go on forever!
The popular series of Sunday Afternoon Conversations continues at 2.00pm on
10th April with ‘The Jihad of Jesus: the sacred non-violent struggle for justice
for Christians and Muslims’. Dave Andrews and Nora Amath join us again for what
will be an interesting discussion of the themes from Dave Andrews’ critically
acclaimed book of the same name. The event will cost $10.00 which will include
afternoon tea.
Our Sunday afternoon conversation in May will be on the theme of,
“Reconciliation beyond the Apology- what next?” and will be held on May 1st at
3.00pm. Sunday Afternoon Conversations have become a popular part of our monthly
programme at St Mark’s and a great opportunity to invite friends who might not
normally be associated with the church.
Don’t forget that we continue to collect food for the University of the Sunshine Coast
Emergency Food Pantry. This week they would especially like cereal and long
life milk. The University is deeply appreciative of this assistance.
Have you considered including St Mark’s in your will?
The foresight and generosity of those who came before us has gifted us
with our prominent setting, beautiful worship space and a tradition of
service within the Buderim community. These gifts have established St
Mark’s Church within the life of the community over many years. By
making a Bequest to St Mark’s, however large or small, you will be
making a final and lasting gift for the benefit of
future generations of Christians in Buderim.
If you would like to know more about how you
can support the Parish in this way please make
an appointment for a confidential discussion
with Fr Jeremy or one of the Wardens.

There are many opportunities for ministry at St Mark’s.
We are always happy to hear from people interested in reading the scriptures during
worship, leading intercessions and those interested in becoming a Lay Assistant.
There are also opportunities to assist with children’s ministry, RI at the school,
looking after the church grounds and many other things.
Please speak to Fr Jeremy if you are interested in any of these things.
