Topic#: 002127 C reated: September 2005 Introduction This Tech Note explains using the Recovery CD for Wonderware Series B Fanless Industrial Touch Panel Computers 10.4", 12.1", 15", and 17" using the External USB drive. Wonderware Series B Fanless Touch Panel Computers (TPC) do not have a built-in CD-ROM. The Recovery CD for these units is designed for use with a USB CD drive attached to the TPC in order to use the Recovery CD. The GUI for the Recovery CD of the Series B units is different then the GUI for the Series A units that had a built-in CD drive. A separate Tech Note is available for the Series A units, with built-in CD drive. Click here to view the Series A unit tech note. Recovery CD Purpose and General Functionality The Recovery CDs will overwrite any data already existing on the drive it is restored to. Because of this, if possible, make sure you copy any files that are on the hard drive that you want to keep. Copy the Wonderware License file, WWSUITE.LIC. This file is NOT part of the image. In the event you are unable to retrieve this file, contact Technical Support. They can then obtain a copy of the license file for your specific TPC. Contents The Recovery CD set contains an 'image' of the system that is prepared by Wonderware for use in the field. This 'image' has the OS, drivers, and several pieces of the software that came pre-installed on the system. It allows a customer to restore a system to a known good state in the field, without having to RMA the unit, and without having to ever reinstall the OS and drivers from the beginning. If there are any problems with this process, contact your Technical Support Provider for further assistance. NTI Drive Backup! and NTI Backup Now! Product CDs As part of the Recovery CD set, you also receive these two products that can be used with your Panel PC for creating backups, or other Recovery CD sets with your custom configuration. Drive Backup! is the product that was used to create the Wonderware Recovery CD set. Backup Now! also includes the ability to create scheduled backups while the Panel PC is running, without booting to DOS. It can create a full backup, and then incremental backups to add on to the full backup. Visit the NTI website http://www.ntius.com/, or review the CDs for the specific product usage and details. These products are not pre-installed on the Panel CDs, but the CDs are included with the Recovery CD set. Recovery CD - Versioning Details The Recovery CDs have a versioning style in order to get an idea of the general setup of the image. This new format includes information on its contents in the name. The format of the version will indicate the size of panel it is for, the Language of the OS and InTouch®, the InTouch version (followed by an internal character), and then (on some) the OS version. Example: 10/12_MUI_90D_XPSP2 • • • • • 10/12 - Panel size in inches. 10/12 = 10.4” &/or 12.1” panel, 15 = 15", 17 = 17" MUI - Language. MUI = Multilingual User Interface. 90 - InTouch version. 90 = 9.0, 95 =9.5, etc. D - Image version for internal use. A disk with 'D' in this area would be newer then a disk with a 'C'. XPSP2 - Operating System. Tries to be clear. XPSP2 = XP Pro with Service Pack 2. Configure TPC and Use Recovery CD Note: You will need to use a mouse and keyboard, attached to the system to complete this task. You'll need the keyboard to enter the BIOS. The mouse is needed for the Recovery CD GUI. Once the image is restored, the keyboard will be needed to enter data, especially the Microsoft Product ID. Make sure your computer BIOS will boot to your CD-ROM Drive by entering into BIOS configuration using the F2 key from the boot sequence. https://wdnresource.wonderware.com/support/kbcd/html/1/t002127.htm 1/5 8/22/13 Using the Recovery CD Set for Wonderware® Series B Fanless Industrial Touch Panel Computers 1. After the PC has been running for some time, you will see a notification appear in the lower-right portion of the monitor screen that notifies that Activation is needed. 14. If Activation is not completed within 30 days of running the Restore routine, Windows will not allow Login. 15. Re-install your license file, and the system is ready to go.
