JAPAN Welcome Message from Congress President I hereby happily present Fukuoka, Japan, as the site for AOCCN 2017. The City of Fukuoka is one of the top-ranking convention destinations in Japan, with pleasant climate and moderate traffic density complemented by rich natural environment and beautiful cityscape. Although our city is not as well-known as other big cities in Japan, I am very positive that you will enjoy the charm of Fukuoka with a pleasant surprise. I sincerely hope to share the opportunity with you to exchange and interact in the latest field of child neurology in the relaxing atmosphere of this biggest City in the south of Japan. I also would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to your compassions for the difficulties we have been experiencing since the tremendous disaster. People of Japan are truly encouraged by kind assistance and sympathy from all over the world, and the process of restoration is already on the way. Incidentally, Fukuoka City is more than 1,000km away from the site of the earthquake, Tsunami and nuclear power plant, which prevented us from being afflicted by any damage at all. We feel even stronger responsibility now to resume economic and academic activities in order to boost energy to other areas of Japan. I strongly believe that your support for holding AOCCN 2017 in Fukuoka will be not only great influence to recovery of Japan but also inspiration to members of AOCNA. Shinichi Hirose, M.D., Ph.D. President, AOCCN 2017 Professor and Chairman Department of Pediatrics, Fukuoka University Welcome Message from Chairperson of the Japanese Society of Child Neurology I would like to extend my warm wishes to invite you to join us in Japan for the 2017 AOCCN conference. Fukuoka is a middlesized city in southern Japan, known for its convenient location, reasonable living costs and relaxing atmosphere. It is one of the most favored destinations among Japanese participants and it is without doubt that I recommend this city as the site for the AOCCN conference. After the disaster which hit north-eastern Japan, we have been exerting ourselves in the field of medicine, including disaster areas, with the help and collaboration of experts from both Japan and other countries. This incident increased our awareness and realization of the importance of global interaction and collaboration more than ever, when tackling common humanitarian problems, such as child medicine under difficult circumstances. In this context, an opportunity to host an international conference is an extremely significant and imperative event to the Japanese Society of Child Neurology. I hope that many of you will attend and visit Fukuoka to learn and establish stronger ties with each other as a means to propel expertise in the latest studies of Child Neurology. I look forward to welcoming you to Fukuoka in 2017. Takao Takahashi Chairperson of the Board of Directors, The Japanese Society of Child Neurology Welcome Message from Mayor of Fukuoka City It is with great pleasure that I express as Mayor of Fukuoka City my deepest admiration to your outstanding contribution to the child neurology of today's world. Given the endorsement from Japan Society of Child Neurology, I hereby would like to introduce and invite you to our beautiful city of Fukuoka. Being the most adjacent Japanese City to Korean Peninsula and mainland China, Fukuoka has developed as the hub of exchange with foreign countries in its history of more than 2000 years. This history has fostered the cosmopolitan atmosphere of the city and hospitable characteristic of the citizens, which became a great asset to us in hosting various international conventions. With its compact urban structure and the transporation system of world-leading efficiency that connects a great variety of hotels and shopping facilities, Fukuoka currently hosts the 2nd most number of conventions held among Japanese cities, and the City Government takes full-fledged measures to optimize the reception. Fukuoka also constantly magnetizes tourists both domestic and overseas to its historic sites which exude the traditional beauty in impressive contrast with the clean streets and bustling food stalls surrounded by abunbant greenery. I am confident that your participants will find ample opportunities for pre-and-post congress entertainment in our city that make their stay truly enjoyable. It would be our greatest pleasure if we could render our utmost hospitality to your congress in 2017, and I humbly ask for your kind support to Fukuoka's bid for 2017 AOCCN.
