Email Update December 2014 Lotterywest Grant to assist with Community Carols Event Christmas is only a month away but the popular annual Northern Suburbs Christmas Carols, hosted by Whitford Church, is even closer. This year it will be held on Sunday, December 14 at Heathridge Park. Entertainment starts at 6.30pm with carols at 7.30pm. Up to 15,000 local people make this event part of their annual Christmas celebrations. Volunteers from the W hitford Church in Mullaloo come together to provide the community event free of charge. Albert Jacob (right) presented a Lotterywest cheque for $15,000 to W hitford Church Senior Pastor Dean Groetzinger. “It’s a fantastic and popular event that gets better every year,” Mr Jacob said. Local Volunteer Rescue Group receives funding support The Whitfords Volunteer Sea Rescue Group is using $3,038 from Lotteryw est to introduce a satellite based system that allows it to track the position of rescue craft on the water. Albert Jacob presented a cheque to the Group’s commander Mark Carruthers. The New Zealand invented s ystem, called TracPlus, will speed the arrival of rescue boats to craft or people in distress. The W ater Police, which has overall control of sea rescues, uses TracPlus to monitor where all rescue craft are located at any given time. It is then in a position to direct the closest rescue boat to the scene of an emergenc y. Email Update December 2014 Lakeside Joondalup Expansion; a great result! Albert Jacob has been instrumental in securing Myer’s presence at Lakeside Shopping centre and assisting Lakeside to become W A’s largest shopping centre. Albert has been involved with the Lakeside shopping centre from his time with the City of Joondalup Council through lobbying the Local and State Governments to ensure that the City of Joondalup was granted tourism precinct status. In June 2009, Albert’s efforts came to fruition when Premier Colin Barnett announced that the City of Joondalup would be declared as a tourism precinct status. There have been many tangible benefits of this new zoning for the Joondalup CBD, the most recent benefit being the $320million expansion of Lakeside Shopping Centre which now includes the first new Myer Store for the last 20 years. Albert’s work over many years has contributed to Lakeside attracting many visitors, providing a unique retail experience and creating greater economic advantages for the local community.
