Synopsis
L’informazione mediatica induce un padre a vendicare lo
stupro della figlia su due giovani stranieri. Il suo gesto
sembra riportare le loro vite alla normalità, ma quando
prenderà coscienza della sua confusione, tutte le certezze
crolleranno, portandolo alla pazzia mentre la verità resterà
nei ricordi della figlia.

Dopo la laurea al DAMS (Cinema) di Bologna nel 2007
con una tesi sul cinema di Massimo Trosi, si trasferisce a
Roma e segue i corsi di Regia presso la Scuola di Cinema
Sentieri Selvaggi.
Dal 2008 al 2010 è tutor nei laboratori di messa in scena

Synopsis
Dalle indagini storiche sul Sabba, il Noce e San Barbato
alle storie tramandate nel tempo su personaggi locali quali
la Zucculara, il documentario intreccia le fila del discorso
storico ai racconti popolari. Studiosi ed appassionati di
storia locale ripercorrono l'origine della leggenda cercando
di dare risposta ad una serie di domande, in parte ancora
insolute. A loro si aggiungono le voci di quanti con le
streghe, anzi con le Janare – come le chiamano a
Benevento – hanno avuto un rapporto più 'diretto'.
Vengono fuori le credenze comuni a molti paesi del
beneventano, ma più in generale alle credenze sulle
streghe. Il documentario è un viaggio, non solo
metaforico, attraverso le storie e leggende trasmesse nei
secoli, ma soprattutto fisico attraverso la provincia di
Benevento.
U. Rinaldi
Umberto Rinaldi, nato il 28 maggio 1975 a Benevento e
residente a San Giorgio del Sannio (BN), ha iniziato a
lavorare alle produzioni video nell’ambito del corso di
laurea in Scienze della comunicazione (concluso nel 2000)
dove ha partecipato a diversi working project nell’ambito
della scrittura e della produzione cinematografica con
critici e professionisti del cinema. Negli ultimi anni opera
nel mondo delle produzioni video indipendenti con la
Vocidentro Films, realizzando spot, videoclip e
cortometraggi. Partecipa alla promozione di eventi
cinematografici locali, è direttore artistico dei festival “Il
Giardino dei corti” (di Venticano – AV) e del festival
Effetto Pace (di San Giorgio del Sannio - BN). Da
ottobre 2008 è curatore e co-conduttore della rubrica
radiofonica dedicata al cinema Videoring.
Il documentario “A uno a uno le fil cuntavano: la leggenda delle
streghe nel Sannio” nasce da un'idea di Francesca Gerardo che con la
collaborazione di Marialaura Simeone e per la regia di Umberto
Rinaldi ha scelto di ripercorrere la storia e le storie delle streghe nel
Sannio. Il progetto è stato finanziato dal programma “Gioventù in
azione”, su proposta del gruppo informale “A spasso con le streghe”.

Synopsis
Hip-Hop is often associated with drugs and violence and
therefore seen by many as a way into prison, but Alma
Negra, DJ Roky and New York, three inmates at Distrital
prison in Bogota, Colombia, demonstrate the opposite.
For two hours a day they are allowed to leave the
courtyard to write and practice their music. Rap enables
them to protest and share their experiences in life. This
film tells their story and the impact Hip-Hop has on
them.

Simon Rasing is an ethnographic researcher and student
filmmaker from Utrecht, Netherlands. He attained an MA
in Visual Anthropology from the Granada Centre,
University of Manchester, and a BA in Cultural
Anthropology from the University of Utrecht. During his
MA degree he has made two documentary films:
Addiction – a fiction and Hip-Hop, mi desahogo (HipHop, my release). The latter was an ethnographic film
project carried out over the summer and autumn in
Bogota, Colombia.
Simon is currently based in Manchester, working on his
latest documentary film My Greatest Achievement.

Franco-americana, Alicia Harrison è cresciuta a New
York, prima di venire a studiare in Francia nel 2000 Ha
diretto numerosi cortometraggi e ha lavorato per un anno
come assistente alla regia per una serie di documentari di
ARTE . Nel 2007, si è formata per raggiungere il Ateliers
Varan di Parigi. Ha poi lavorato come sceneggiatore e
operatore di macchina da presa su diversi progetti di
documentari. Si sta anche terinando la tesi sul cinema
documentario al EHESS ed insegna cinema all'Università
di Paris X - Nanterre.

Synopsis
Ainu. Paths to Memory is a discovery documentary of the
Ainu people in Japan. They have been historically
considered savages by the Japanese and Russian
governments. They were dispossessed from their lands
and suffered unfair laws impeding them to keep their
lifestyle. On a trip through the recovery of their identity,
which took us from Japan to Europe, we will find a
people erased from history books and scarred by
discrimination which pushed them close to the final
extinction. People whose origins and language are still a
mystery. The tour along the paths to memory reveals an
uncertain destiny. The growing interest for the culture
preservation clashes with a reality of marginalization
which has reduced it to mere museum pieces. The
repeated sentence "I am Ainu" expresses a willingness of
overcoming their marginal circumstances and recovery of
their pride. But the awakening of the Ainu people faces
the mercantilist logic of a global world. Unavoidably,
doubt comes to mind, what does being Ainu mean today?

Marcos Centeno has been a Research Fellow at University
of Valencia (2009-2013) in the field of Film Studies. He
has undertaken research stays at Waseda University (20102012) as well as short stays at School of Oriental and
African Studies, SOAS (University of London), Paris 3
Sorbonne Nouvelle and Goethe-Universität Frankfurt.
He has been lecturer of “Film Direction” (2011-2012)
and Interactive Communication (2012-2013) at University
of Valencia. He has made congress presentations in
Osaka (ACCS Conference), Kyoto (Culture Typhoon),
Tokyo (Waseda University, Meiji Gakuin University,
Suginami Association for International Relations), among

Synopsis
It is about the changes in a little place in Borneo as seen
through the lives of a salt making Kelabit family. Weight
of Salt gives a glimpse into the life of the last active salt
maker family in Kelabit highland, an isolated settlement in
the heart of Borneo. It is a portrait of the tribe and a
place where life is simple and time has another pace; but
not after 2009 when the first road connecting this remote
village to the populated lowlands was completed. The
same year, cellular communication was extended to this
area. Young Kelabits move to the cities to continue their
education. Upon graduation, most do not return to the
highlands since the agrarian economy does not provide
many job opportunities.The salt making family knows
that the continuation of the family trade depends on the
children. However, the parents want them to receive an
education and to have a better life. This is not only brings
changes to their lives when they become modernized like
the rest of the world and the salt making tradition will
surely come to an end.
M. Bong
Margaret Bong was born in Sarawak, Borneo. As an
independent filmmaker, she has written, produced and
directed several shorts including fiction and documentary,
which have been screened and exhibited internationally.
Bong also an alumnus of Asian Film Academy and
Rotterdam Lab. She participated in Produire Au Sud
International Co-Production Workshop in Nantes. In
early 2009 she was in an artist residency program at 18th
Street Art Center, Los Angeles to write her first feature
length film Singing Tombstone. Weight of Salt is her first
feature length documentary.

Synopsis
During my write up stage, I worked at the Ladakh Society
for Traditional Medicines, an NGO in Ladakh (India),
working towards the revitalization of Sowa Rigpa (Tibetan
Medicine). I worked together with the project coordinator
on financial and administrative issues for five months, in
which later on I found myself filming the journey of an
inspiring Tibetan doctor Amchi Karma Chodon, whom I
was fortunate enough to travel with. The journey ended
up as a documentary film Amchi (2013), now being
screened at various film festivals. The film recently got its
first award, the “Award of Excellence” from the Jakarta
International Film Festival –Environment-Health-Culture
(2014). The film advocates for the transmission of
traditional knowledge to next generations for a more
sustainable public healthcare model in rural areas of
Ladakh and also highlights the importance of medicinal
plant conservation in the Himalayas, which are under
great danger due to overgrazing, climate change and
unscientific exploitation.

Eda Elif Tibet born in 1987, is a visual anthropologist and
an independent documentary filmmaker, making films
mainly for advocating local livelihoods and their
environments.

Synopsis
In viaggio dall'Africa sub-sahariana in Italia, fino al
"Ghetto” nella provincia di Foggia, un luogo dove vige la
completa negazione dei diritti del lavoratore, lontano dai
centri abitati ma incombente per le problematiche
connesse. Serbatoio di manodopera in nero per
l’agricoltura locale in una condizione di contemporaneo e
strisciante schiavismo e, al tempo stesso, contenitore di
Umanità dentro il quale è possibile ritrovare scorci di vita,
speranze, delusioni, forza e sofferenza. Determinazione.
Ascoltandoli, quel muro fatto di non conoscenza tende a
sfaldarsi. Raccontano di vita nel “Ghetto”, di feste, di
amici, di affetti. Si raccontano nella veste di figlio, nella
veste di madre. Fino a riconoscere nelle loro parole
frammenti di nostra non lontana storia migratoria,
collettiva si, ma anche individuale quando ognuno con la
propria speranza e memoria d’affetti, partiva per altri
paesi. Non è un reportage “mordi e fuggi”, è un
racconto che pur insistendo in uno sfondo di
emarginazione e degrado, vuole andare oltre trascendendo
la contingenza nel tentativo di sollecitare “sentire
comune”. È un racconto che aiuta ad entrare in sintonia
con chi parla, con le loro parole, gli sguardi e i gesti. È un
tentativo di superare lo schema culturale che del migrante
ne fa un’informe categoria sociale, vista attraverso il filtro
del nostro presunto benessere.

Sul “ciglio”, vetta del monte Somma, si ripete
annualmente la magia del “Sabato dei fuochi” che dà il via
alla “Festa della Montagna”: un appuntamento tra sacro e
profano frutto di religiosità popolare, cultura, tradizione,
pratiche devozionali per l’amata “Mamma Schiavona”,
danze irrefrenabili, incessanti ritmi di tammorre che
promuovono cerimonialmente la dimensione altra
dell’evento festivo, qualcosa di grande e significativo, uno
stato superiore all’ordinario come fase di sospensione del
quotidiano.

Synopsis
Nel film-documentario, viene ripercorso l’intero Festino,
lasciando spazio ai veri protagonisti, i fedeli, che in
dialetto troinese, raccontano l’esperienza del viaggio,
talvolta lasciando la parola all’emozione, che pienamente
esprime l’essenza di tutto il pellegrinaggio. Il Festino di
San Silvestro Monaco si svolge tra maggio e giugno. Tre
le tappe fondamentali: i “rami”, a “ddarata” e a “Vara”,
con i preparativi che coinvolgono ogni anno oltre 700
persone. Si inizia i festeggiamenti la penultima settimana
di maggio con i “Rami”, quando un gruppo di uomini
parte a piedi alla volta dei boschi dei Nebrodi, 80 km di
percorso, per raccogliere i rami di alloro con cui far
ritorno in paese e onorare la memoria di San Silvestro
Monaco, deponendolo sulla sua tomba all’interno
dell’omonima chiesa, “consegna il voto del proprio
pellegrinaggio”. Il viaggio, di rito, ha la sua partenza il
giovedi antecedente la penultima domenica di maggio. I
Ramara tornano sabato e sfilano per la vie del paese
domenica. L’ultima settimana di maggio è la volta della
“Ddarata”, lo stesso percorso viene compiuto a cavallo,
ma si parte il venerdi antecedente l’ultima domenica di
maggio e si rientra sabato sera, per poi sfilare in corteo
domenica e “consegnare il proprio voto” come i
“Ramara”, sulla tomba di San Silvestro Monaco. Infine, la
prima domenica di giugno si svolge la “Discesa della
Vara”, una processione con centinaia di fedeli in corteo
che accompagnano la statua di San Silvestro Monaco
lungo le vie paese, fino alla chiesa a lui dedicata.

Synopsis
In a world that has grown more dynamic and uncertain,
where diversity and differences make way for
standardization and uniformity, the film explores the
effects of a rapidly changing landscape on lives and
livelihoods. Set in Wayanad, in South India, ‘Have you
seen the arana?’ is a journey through a rich and biodiverse region that is witnessing drastic transformation in
the name of ‘development’
A traditional healer’s concern over the disappearance of
medicinal plants from the forest, a farmer’s commitment
to growing traditional varieties of rice organically and a
cash crop cultivator’s struggle to survive amidst farmers’
suicides, offer fresh insights into shifting relations
between people, their knowledge systems and the
environment. Interwoven into contemporary narratives is
an ancient tribal creation myth that traces the passage of
their ancestors across this land, recalling past ways of
reading and mapping the terrain. As hills flatten, forests
disappear and traditional knowledge systems are
forgotten, the film reminds us that this diversity could
disappear forever, to be replaced by monotonous and
unsustainable alternatives.
S. Bhat
Sunanda worked on 'Have you seen the arana?' over 6
years, looking for ways to capture and represent the
complexity of the people and place. Much of the film
rests on the relationships she was able to build with the
characters over this period. She was inspired by what
David McDougall, an ethnographic filmmaker said:
"Before films are a form of representing, they are a form
of looking… With a certain interest, a certain will. To
look carefully requires strength, calmness and affection.
The affection cannot be in the abstract, it must be an
affection of the senses."

Synopsis
In 1988 December an earthquake, measuring 6.8 on the
surface wave magnitude scale, razed to ground Armenia’s
second largest city of Leninakan (now Gyumri) and the
town of Spitak together with hundreds of surrounding
villages. Twenty-six years later, we see a city (Gyumri)
with destroyed buildings as if the earthquake occurred just
yesterday. .
The image of the city is seen through the eyes of a little
girl - Nina – who carries a disproportionately large burden
of responsibilities that fell to her lot. She carries this
burden without complaint - she simply has no time for
discontent, and it is the violin that helps her to endure it,
the violin that she cherishes, extracting from it the
mystery of the soul‘s universe.

Armen Gasparyan (born 1970, Gyumri, Armenia) Studied
at Leninakan Art School named after S. Merkurov (19801984). In 1987 worked as an assistant to a projectionist
and in 1988 got the job of a projectionist at Leninakan
"Oktyabr" cinema. In 1989 worked as a fireman at the
Leninakan State Dramatic Theatre named after V.
Adjemyan. In 1991 had a film directing course in A.
Mkrtchyan's master class at Kumayri- Phoenix Film
Studio. In 1993 moved to Moscow and studied
screenwriting at the All-Russian State Institute of
Cinematography (Mast r class of V. Chernikh). Organized
A-Art Film Studio in Gyumri (1995-1998) producing four
documentaries. The film The Eclipse Witnesses got a
special Critics' Award at the San Gio IFF in Verona, Italy,
1999. Since 2000 Armen Gasparyan has been living in
Kaliningrad, Russia where he made four documentaries.
The film Chronicles of the Restorers got a special prize at
the Debut- Kinotavr IFF, Moscow, Russia. 2001. In 2006
Armen Gasparyan was included in the international jury
board of the Niepokalanow International Catholic FF,
Poland.

Giustina Clausino, che narra tre storie di donne (di cui
una inventata) che decidono di lasciare il proprio Paese di
origine e venire a vivere in Italia. La paura, la scelta, il
coraggio, le difficoltà, l’integrazione, la famiglia lontana
accomunano queste tre donne,che si raccontano davanti
ad una telecamera, sia nel loro ambiente familiare che
lavorativo, e lasciano vivere le loro emozioni parlandone
con estrema semplicità. Eva è la storia di tante ragazze
che purtroppo non hanno vita facile né nel loro Paese né
in quello che le “accoglie”. Ma la rivincita e il riscatto
lascia sempre una speranza, per tutte.

Indagine sulle agenzie "Nandemoya" di Tokyo, dove si
possono noleggiare le persone per molteplici funzioni.
Nella città di Tokyo esistono numerose agenzie dove i
dipendenti, dietro debito pagamento, si offrono per
svolgere il ruolo richiesto a seconda delle circostanze:
amico per andare al cinema, cugino per movimentare un
compleanno, coniuge fittizio per affrontare meglio il
ricevimento coi professori… Attraverso interviste ai
dipendenti di tali agenzie il nostro sguardo si interroga su
un mondo in rapida trasformazione, dove la tecnologia
facilita lo scambio di informazioni e il contatto tra
persone fisicamente distanti, ma al tempo stesso altera le
tradizionali modalità di interazione.
Karma Gava
Laureato in psicologia sociale a Padova, nel 2008 inizia a
lavorare come operatore per il telegiornale di una tv
locale. In seguito scrive e dirige spot pubblicitari,
videoclip musicali e cortometraggi. Dopo un'esperienza
alla scuola di cinema de l'Havana a Cuba, e i laboratori di
drammaturgia tenuti da Fausto Paravidino e Christian
Ceresoli a Roma, scrive e dirige una breve commedia
teatrale e una sitcom per il web. Nel 2013 realizza il
documentario “In cerca di un amico” ambientato in
Giappone e sostenuto dal Ministero per i Beni e le
Attività Culturali italiano, che viene selezionato e vince
numerosi premi nazionali e internazionali. Nel 2014 a
Barcellona collabora con lo sviluppo di diverse

Synopsis
Marcelina, de cuarenta y ocho años, y Mercedes, de
cincuenta y seis, viven en pueblos vecinos de
comunidades agrícolas en los Andes Venezolanos. Ambas
comparten la misma historia trágica: sus hijas adolescentes
se han suicidado, al igual que muchas otras personas en
esa zona rural durante los últimos años. A través del
recuerdo de sus pérdidas y de su aflicción, el film nos
lleva a un mundo de dolor tangible, en el cual el silencio
se ha convertido en un rasgo muy significativo de este
idílico y visualmente poderoso escenario natural, también
violento. Historias de vida, autopsias sicológicas, objetos
evocativos y arte se entremezclan.

Eliezer Arias is a Venezuelan filmmaker and
anthropologist with a PhD from the University of Bath,
England. He has taken screenplay tutorials with Lucrecia
Martel, Felipe Vega, Javier Corcuera and Guillermo
Arriaga. His Opera Prima OUR HISTORY IS ON THE

Synopsis
Hualong County, whose name translates to "Valley of the
Heroes", is one such community. Located in Qinghai
Province, China, at the eastern edge of the Tibetan
Plateau, Hualong was once a place where Tibetan culture
thrived among other ethnic groups, including Mongolians,
Turkish Muslim Salar, Chinese Muslim Hui, Monguors,
and Han Chinese. Now Hualong is recognized as one of
the most vulnerable places for Tibetan language and
culture on the entire plateau. Today more than 30% of
Tibetans living there are unable to speak any Tibetan at
all.
Valley of the Heroes is a rare window into Tibet's shifting
cultural landscape. Through the voices of farmers and
townspeople, young children and the elderly, the film
renders a timely portrait of a community undergoing
radical transformation.
Their
perspectives are
accompanied by footage of daily life in Hualong, revealing
the region's complex linguistic terrain, where Tibetan
children speak Chinese when they play, and traditional
songs and prayers are being lost.

Khashem Gyal is a young Tibetan photographer/filmmaker
from Amdo, Tibet. He holds a BA in Ancient Tibetan
Literature from the Tibetan Studies College of Qinghai
Nationalities’ University; where he also studied
photography and film in hopes of making it his life-time
career. In 2010, he established the first filmmaking
organization at the university, naming it “Amilolo Film
Group”. In 2013, he directed his first documentary-The
Valley of the Heroes. He is also a key member of the Plateau
Photographers. Currently, he is about to produce his
second film on environmental issues in the area of
Tsongong Po (Qinghai Lake, Ch) the largest freshwater lake
in China.
Tarlaba!i ve ben

Synopsis
We were steeped in the stories of Tarlaba!ı residents. We
lived with the people for almost a year, soaking in all the
narratives we could without making distinctions. We took
pictures, but we never thought of making a film until we
met Mustafa, a waste collector who lives in the
neighbourhood. This photo series is a sum up of the
atmosphere and people we met in Tarlaba!ı that led us to
film a documentary about Mustafa. For over a year we
have spent substantial production costs making the
feature length documentary Tarlaba!ı ve ben (Tarlaba!ı and
me). We are knee-deep in the editing process now and
then we will soon tackle post-production tasks like sound
editing, color correction, and other technical work before
completing the film in December. The entire cost of the
film production is 25000 euros, and we will need to raise
at least half of the sum before the end of November in
order to complete the film.

Synopsis
The Kora is one of the most important musical
instruments of West Africa, surrounded by history and
mysticism. Cause of pride for nations that were born
from tribes without borders, there are discrepancies about
the origin of this instrument. But it's in the Kaabú Realm
apogee that most legends about Kora's invention intersect
themselves. And Kansala, the cradle city of this grand
realm, was located where is now a part of GuineaBissau. Yet it's not just Kora's History that matters but all
the stories that we hear first hand sprinkling the listener's
imagination, carrying us beyond time on a unique
atmosphere among reality and fiction through an entire
population that still claims Kora as unique and their own.
