It is truly a blessing to gather with you and celebrate the birth of our Lord this year. May you and your families have a happy and holy Holiday and a blessed New Year. Inside this bulletin, you will find lots of information about what we do in our Parishes of Our Lady of Hope and St. Luke’s. Please, take some time to read it and see if there are any programs or services that catch your eye. All are welcome to share in the good work of spreading the Gospel through our Catholic community; and we are so glad to share this time together with you! In God’s Peace, Fr. Austin December 28, 2015 – January 3, 2016 Mon, 12/28 8:00AM Tue, 12/29 8:00AM Wed, 12/30 8:00AM Thu, 12/31 8:00AM 4:00PM Fri, 1/1 10:00AM Sat, 1/2 5:30PM LITURGY and WORSHIP Mass is the center of our life at Our Lady of Hope. Each weekend, we gather to celebrate Mass at 4:00PM on Saturday evening and 8:30 & 11:30AM on Sunday morning. During the week, we celebrate Mass at 8:00AM, Mon – Fri. All are welcome to join us in praising and thanking God in the Eucharist. Every First Friday of the month, we have Eucharistic Adoration at St. Luke Church, from 9:30AM until 4:00PM, with Benediction at 4:00PM. All are invited to share this beautiful time of quiet prayer with our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament. The Sacrament of Reconciliation (or Confession) is celebrated regularly on Saturday afternoon from 3:00 to 3:45PM. One can also make an appointment with one of the priests for a special meeting for Confession. If you are a loved one is in need of the Sacrament of the Sick (or Anointing), please call the Parish Office to arrange for one of the priests to come to your home or hospital to bring this Sacrament of God’s healing, mercy, and love to you. If you are looking to share your faith with your child through the Sacrament of Baptism, please contact Deacon Herman Wilkins at the Parish Office to make the arrangements. We happily celebrate this entry into the Body of Christ, the Church, both at Mass on the weekends, or more intimately with you and your family in the church. Those wishing to celebrate the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony are invited to contact one of the priests or deacon to discuss plans for your big day. We ask that you begin preparations at least six months prior to your desired wedding date. The Church rejoices with you, and we want to accompany you on this wondrous journey of love. If you hear God’s call to serve Him and His People in the Church as a priest or deacon in the Sacrament of Holy Orders, or if you feel called to reach out to others as a consecrated religious Sister or Brother, then please contact Fr. Austin Murphy at the Parish Office, and he will be happy to discuss how God is working in your life through this wondrous vocation. EVANGELIZATION and MISSION Evangelization means, simply, the sharing of an encounter with Jesus Christ that we have had with others, and making that encounter real for them as well. It is at the heart of our mission as a Church, as Jesus gave us the “Great Commission” when He told His followers to “Go, make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you” (Matt 19-20). Together with the other parishes in Southeastern Baltimore County, we share our faith with our community. Through various social activities, we help to form a community around our Parishes. We have monthly bus trips, occasional Parish feasts, and periodic dances and socials to bring people together for fun and fellowship. For those who are not Catholic but feel the draw toward sharing full Communion with us, we have our Come & See program that teaches what we believe so that others may make their own decision to follow Jesus in the Catholic Church. Classes meet every Monday evening at St. Luke Church from 7:00 to 8:30PM. Drop-ins are always welcome! Our Lady of Hope is also on Facebook! If you are on Facebook too, let’s be friends! You can “like” our page at “Our Lady of Hope Parish.” Also, we have a Parish Website to share information and more. Our address is www.OurLadyOfHope.church. Our Parish community is served by the Bethlehem Council of the Knights of Columbus. The Knights arrange various social and service opportunities as part of their mission. The Council home is located at 7401 Bay Front Drive, in Edgemere, and their telephone number is 410-477-5225. EDUCATION and FAITH FORMATION Our Lady of Hope/St. Luke School has served the Catholic Community in Dundalk and Edgemere since 1954. Our school shares knowledge and faith with our children from PreK, ages 3 and 4, through 8th Grade – preparing them to enter high school as faith-filled disciples, ready to handle the work of secondary school. If you are interested in checking out the school for yourself, we are happy to arrange a visit. Simply call the School Office at 410-288-2793 For those whose children are attending a nonCatholic school but who want them to learn the faith, we also have a Religious Education program. Our flexible program allows students to attend classes either on Sunday mornings (at Our Lady of Hope) or on Monday evening (for middle school, Grades 6-7-8) or Wednesday evening (for Grades K – 5), both at St. Luke’s. If you’d like more information about enrolling, call the Religious Education Office at 410-477-5201. Every Wednesday at 11:00AM, we have a Bible Study group that meets in the Rectory, and on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8PM, another group meets at St. Luke. All are welcome! our call to be agents of this Mercy in our community. Our Lady of Hope serves the needy in our community through our St. Vincent DePaul Food Pantry. Donations of non-perishable food are always welcome, and we distribute food for the needy on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays of the month, from 10Am until noon. If you or a loved one is homebound and in need of Communion, we have a dedicated corps of Pastoral Home Visitors who bring Communion to those in need. If you would like a home or hospital visit, please call the Parish Office, and someone will be happy to visit. Also, if you are interested in sharing in this ministry, please call the Parish Office to talk with Fr. Austin. STEWARDSHIP and DEVELOPMENT Each weekend at Mass, in addition to the gifts of Bread and Wine to be transformed into the Body and Blood of Christ, we take up an Offertory Collection. The financial giving of our parishioners allows our Parishes to serve the needs of the community, both spiritual and material. Our collection helps us to pay for upkeep on our facilities, utility bills, staff salaries, as well as support for our Food Pantry, outreach ministries throughout the Archdiocese. Tithing (sacrificial giving) has always been a part of our faith tradition – not because God needs the money, but because through this sacrifice we recognize that our blessings ultimately come from our loving Father. Registered parishioners receive Offertory envelopes each month to help coordinate their giving and our ability to recognize these tax-deductible contributions. If you find a home here at St. Luke and would like to receive envelopes, call the Parish Office to register. We are so grateful to our generous family of faith! OUTREACH and SERVICE Jesus says, “I was hungry and you gave me food, thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to me” (Matt 25:35-36). During this Jubilee Year of Mercy, we are called to reflect more closely on May you and your family have a happy and holy Holiday Season! - OUR LADY OF HOPE THANKS OUR BULLETIN ADVERTISERS - PLEASE PATRONIZE THEM WHEN POSSIBLE - Duda Ruck www.RuckFuneralHomes.com OFFICE 410-288-4664 7922 WISE AVENUE • DUNDALK, MARYLAND 21222 OREM'S GARAGE FULL AUTO SERVICE WE FIX CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS! 7821 WISE AVE. $1.00 OFF 50 Munchkins or a Dozen Donuts • Valid only at 7821 Wise Ave. • Limit 1 Offer thru 2/9/16 PLAY CENTERS, INC.
