Greetings to our partners and guests!
Welcome to The Woodlands Inaugural Women in Leadership Symposium hosted by the Texas Diversity
Council. I would like to thank our corporate partner and symposium Title Sponsor Entergy Texas, Inc.
for inviting us to bring this event to The Woodlands & Montgomery County area. This great event offers
an opportunity for you to observe, learn, network and hear different perspectives from a diverse panel of
executive women leaders.
Welcome to the inaugural Women in Leadership Symposium of The Woodlands! We are excited to be a part
of the Texas Diversity Council expanding their reach into the Montgomery County area. On behalf of the
symposium’s committee and volunteers, we are honored you are celebrating that expansion and the legacy
of professional women with us today.
The symposium was first established with the launch of the Texas Diversity Council in 2004 and the event is
currently being help in many other cities across the country. We are very excited to bring this opportunity
to The Woodlands and we appreciate you joining us here today. The theme for today’s Symposium is
“Women of Vision: Leading Transformation in the Workplace.” I am confident that you will gather a wealth
of knowledge and learn from some of the best female executives speaking on topics pertinent to today’s
women leaders. They will share stories and insights of their personal and professional challenges faced while
successfully rising to the top in their respective organizations.
I encourage you to take the initiative to meet new colleagues, talk openly about today’s topics and exchange
ideas. It is my hope that your experience today is rewarding and allows you to gain some insight to reflect
on your own goals and status that will help bring you to the top in your own career development.

We are living and working in interesting times and in an interesting place. The Woodlands, and indeed other
portions of Montgomery County, are among the fastest-growing areas in the U.S. That growth represents
broadening of cultures and perspectives, and that makes this year’s theme of “Women of Vision: Leading
Transformation in the Workplace” a compelling topic. We have assembled a dynamic group of panelists who
have graciously agreed to share their stories and best practices for achieving success.
Today’s mission is to help encourage women to strategically optimize their talents, resources, network and
passion. But, the information shared this morning is not just for women. Whether male or female, you will
hear information that applies to all of us as leaders. And, when leaders succeed, our society and businesses
flourish.
Be prepared to be inspired, and be willing to inspire others. Feel free to take notes on your tablets,

Sallie Rainer
Debra F. Sukin, MHA
Sallie Rainer, a long-time resident of The Woodlands, serves as president and chief
executive officer of Entergy Texas, Inc., an electric utility that serves more than 420,000
customers in 27 Southeast Texas counties. She was named to the post in 2012.
Ms. Sukin has responsibility for two hospitals as senior vice president of CHI St. Luke’s
Health: St. Luke’s The Woodlands Hospital and St. Luke’s Lakeside Hospital. She is
also responsible for the development of the new Springwoods Village Hospital near the
Exxon Mobil campus in north Harris County.
As president and chief executive officer for Entergy Texas, she is responsible for Entergy
Texas’ electric distribution system, customer service, economic development, regulatory
and governmental affairs, as well as the company’s financial performance.
Rainer came to work for Entergy Corporation in 1984 in the company’s generation
planning department. She held various management roles in long-term system planning
before being promoted to director of regulatory affairs and energy settlements. Before
being named to her current role at Entergy Texas, Rainer served as vice president, federal policy.
During Rainer’s tenure as CEO, Entergy Texas has seen a steady rise in customer satisfaction scores as
measured by J.D. Power and Associates. This has been especially true in the business sector where the
company has twice earned the highest satisfaction score in its category.
The company has also earned praise from the Environmental Protection Agency for its energy efficiency
programs and has been named a “Partner of the Year” for two years in a row.
Rainer currently serves as a member of the board of directors for the Montgomery County United Way,
and is the 2014 Campaign Chairman. She is a member of the Texas Children’s Hospital Ambassadors and
Leadership Cabinet. She is also a member of The Woodlands Presbyterian Church.
A native of Louisiana, Rainer holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering technology from Louisiana State
University and a master’s in business administration from Texas A&M University.
Under Ms. Sukin’s leadership, The Woodlands Hospital has more than doubled its size
in the past ten years. In September 2009 CHI St. Luke’s Lakeside Hospital opened on the
Woodlands campus. Lakeside specializes in orthopedic and spine care, sports medicine,
and cardiology. Modern Healthcare has named CHI St. Luke’s Lakeside Hospital as one of
the 100 Best Places to Work in Healthcare, three years in a row.
A Houston native, Ms. Sukin is an active in the community. She is a member of the Texas Hospital
Association Council on Policy Development. She also serves as a board member for The Woodlands Area
Economic Development Partnership, Interfaith of The Woodlands, and the American College of Healthcare
Executives. Ms. Sukin is a member of the Greater Houston Chapter of the Young President’s Organization.
Ms. Sukin earned a Masters in Health Administration from Washington University School of Medicine.
Following her graduate work, she completed a fellowship program at Duke University Hospital and Health
System. In 2007, Ms. Sukin was recognized as one of Modern Healthcare’s “Up & Comers” in healthcare
leadership. The American College of Healthcare Executives recognized her with the Regent’s Early Careerist
Healthcare Executive Award in 2010. She has also been recognized by Becker’s Healthcare Review as one
of the top women leaders in healthcare in the country. Most recently, Ms. Sukin was named a Woman of
Distinction by Interfaith of The Woodlands. Debbie resides in The Woodlands with her husband, Steven
Sukin, MD, and their sons, Jacob and Eli.
Samina Farid
Samina Farid is a leading energy and technology entrepreneur in Houston and co-founder
of Merrick, a global provider of software to the oil and gas industry.
Samina’s extensive experience in the energy industry spans over three decades and
includes managerial and executive positions with ESSO Eastern, Inc., Pakistan, HNG/
Enron, Cabot Transmission and Brooklyn Interstate Natural Gas Company. In the late
1980’s, she recognized a gap in the marketplace and began to develop software to address
challenges faced by energy companies; launching Merrick Systems in 1992.
From its humble start as a home-based business, Merrick has grown to be one of the
largest software development companies in Houston with offices in Oslo, Calgary,
Bogota, and Singapore. Touching 25% of all oil and gas wells in the US, today Merrick is a global business
focusing on operational solutions to improve production operations, extend oil and gas producing asset
life, decrease lifting costs and increase production. Recognized for fast growth, business excellence and
innovation, Merrick has won numerous prestigious awards including consistent rankings in the “INC.
5000”, Software Magazine’s “Software 500”, Houston Business Journal’s “Fast 100” and “Fast-Tech 50”.
Samina holds a degree in business from the University of Houston. She has been involved with Houston’s
technology and business community through various local organizations including the Greater Houston
Partnership and Houston Technology Center, promoting job growth in Houston and helping emerging
technology companies grow and prosper.. In 2013, Samina was recognized by the National Diversity
Council as one of the Most Powerful and Influential Women in Texas, and was honored in April 2014 as
Entrepreneur of the Year by the Asian Chamber of Commerce.

Elizabeth Campbell
Ms. Campbell is an attorney and diversity/employment law executive with a successful
record of working as a business partner with other corporate executives and teams to
accomplish organizational goals. She is a frequent speaker and author on the topic of
diversity and inclusion strategy. As Chief Diversity Officer, Ms. Campbell devotes
her efforts full time to overseeing the development and implementation of the firm’s
diversity and inclusion strategy.
Ms. Campbell has more than 25 years of experience in administrative and employment
litigation both in law firm and in-house counsel settings and has led human resources,
employment relations and diversity strategies at large corporations. Before joining
Andrews Kurth in February 2007, Ms. Campbell served as Vice President of Employment Relations and
Corporate Diversity Officer for the ARAMARK Corporation in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Ms. Campbell
was recognized as a Diversity & Inclusion Trailblazer by the National Diversity Council in 2014.
She received her J.D. in 1978 from The University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and
her B.A. in 1975 from The American University in Washington, DC.

Amy Milstead
Amy Milstead, the only daughter of seven children, serves as President of Milstead
Automotive founded by her father, Dick Milstead. She serves as Chairman of the Board
for the Texas Towing & Storage Association (TTSA); Vice Chair of the Towing, Storage
& Booting Advisory Board for Texas Department of Licensing & Regulations; and
Chairman of the Board for The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce for the 20132014 term. Amy attended the State of the Union address (January 2014) in Statuary
Hall on Capital Hill and addressed the RNC on behalf of small businesses as they are
influenced by Obamacare. She has appeared as a featured expert on Fox News, ABC, CBS
and the Live Well Network. She was featured in Houston Business Journal’s “40 Under
40” for outstanding leadership and innovation in her field, was chosen as a Woman
of Distinction by the Montgomery County Council of Women’s Organizations, chosen as a Woman of
Influence by Reviewit Magazine and recently nominated as Top Influential Persons in Montgomery County
by People Scene Magazine. Giving back to the community is important to Amy and she currently serves
on the Board of Directors for Montgomery County Youth Services, a 501c3 nonprofit agency for homeless
teens and Milstead Automotive is the lead sponsor for the Walk Like MADD event in Montgomery County
for 2012, 2013 and 2014. Milstead continues to innovate in its industry and won the Lone Star College

Spring G. Williams
Spring is the Executive General Manager for the Red River District. Spring has the
responsibility for the Houston, New Orleans, Shreveport and Lafayette Gateways.
Spring started her career with UPS in 1978 as a package driver in the Tulsa Facility,
Oklahoma district. She was promoted to the management ranks in 1983 in Package
Operations. In January, 2001, Spring was promoted and relocated to Package Division
Manager in the Southeast Texas District. She was the Package Division Manger
responsible for beta testing of four major projects within the organization. In 2006, she
rotated from a Package Division Manager to her current assignment as the Red River
District Executive General Manager.
Spring was also a member of the 2006/2007 National Registers Who’s Who in Executive and Professionals,
2011-2012 Who’s Who in Black Houston and most recently named one of the 2014 Most Powerful &
Influential Women in Texas by the National Diversity Council.
Spring has been committed to UPS for over 34 years. She is committed to making a difference by constantly
communicating the company’s vision to her employees.
She has two adult children, Aric and Sparkle Gaines, three wonderful grandchildren and husband, William
Cox, who have all been the inspiration in her life. Spring is deeply involved in her church, Payne Chapel
A.M.E. She is a licensed minister as well as volunteers with various youth groups.

Self-confidence is extremely important in almost every aspect of our lives. People who lack selfconfidence struggle to achieve success at work and in their personal life. But the good news is
that self-confidence can be learned and developed by following some concrete steps. With the
right amount of confidence, people are able to take informed risks and stretch themselves to
reach their goals.

In her latest book, Stop Playing Safe, Margie Warrell argues that we often know what we
want to do but fail to do it because of fear of putting our vulnerability on the line. While not
particularly fulfilling, we see the status quo as an easier and less scary option. There is proof of
this as advances in brain imaging technology show that human beings are wired to avoid risk.
It is easier to settle with the status quo than to take courageous action and make a change.
But that leaves us with restricted opportunities to develop our potential and achieve our
aspirations.
