Parish Vision Statement
St. Louis de Montfort will be a dynamic
witness of the Gospel and lead others to
embrace the love of God.
Let us take some time to reflect on a different
corporal or spiritual work of mercy each week.
The Second Sunday of Lent. Luke 9:28b-36
It has been 12 days since Ash Wednesday, so technically we have completed about 10 days in our Lenten
Season. Not bad – only 30 days to go until Easter. Lent
is full steam ahead with our time of prayer, fasting,
and almsgiving. Prayer seem s to b e the focus of
this Gospel passage for the Second Sunday of Lent.
We heard today about the account of the Transfiguration of Jesus on Mount Tabor. The story is familiar.
Jesus too k so m e of H is closest fr iends up th e
mountain to pray. Peter, John, and James might have
wondered why they needed to travel up a mountain to
spend time with Jesus and to pray. I also find it
interesting because it would be on that mountain that
Peter, John, and James were astonished to learn that
Jesus, th eir fr iend an d a m an sim ilar to th em selves, was actually someone who is God in the flesh.
The passage states: “While He was praying H is
face changed in appearance and His clothing became
dazzling white.” What? Wait a minute. Did that just
say what I think it just said? Yes, while Jesus was
praying, Jesus also r evealed to P eter , Jo hn,
and James who He really was.
Dear friends, Jesus is calling us this Lent to join Him
and to pray. We pray so He can reveal Himself to us.
We pray and spend time with Him so He can help us
know who He is really. Yes, Jesus is our friend and He
lived on this earth like we do. But, Jesus is also God in
the flesh w ho ultim ately cam e to give H is life
away for our salvation and to save us from the sins that
we at times struggle with during our lives. You might
have heard the following quote: “Prayer do esn’t
change God – it changes us.” I believe this is an important part of Lent. So, what needs changed in us?
Let’s take this question to Jesus in prayer and ask Him
to help us. We can also heed the words of God the Father fr o m the sam e p assage fr o m S aint Luk e
chapter 9: “This is my chosen Son; listen to Him.” One
of my favorite places for prayer and for listening is our
Perpetual Adoration Chapel – open 24 hours a day and
7 days a week. Jesus is there … Jesus w aits for o ur
presence … Jesus loves u s. Let us pr ay… let us listen.

Lenten Stations of the Cross will be offered on Fridays throughout the
Season of Lent in our Church at 7:00pm. Please join fellow SLDM parishioners in this special time of prayer and meditation journeying
with our Lord on His Way of the Cross. The Conference of Catholic
Bishops website states that "The Stations of the Cross began as the
practice of pious pilgrims to Jerusalem who would retrace the final
journey of Jesus Christ to Calvary. Later, for the many who wanted to
pass along the same route, but could not make the trip to Jerusalem, a
practice developed that eventually took the form of the fourteen stations currently found in almost every church." (—From Popular Devotional Practice) See you Friday!

Time... Stewardship Reflection
Peter, James, and John wanted to build a “booth” for Jesus and just stay on the mountain where His transfiguration took place. But the Son of God, the Chosen One,
knew that He must instead keep moving toward His crucifixion. We, too, must rise from worship and do what we
can to hasten the coming of the kingdom.

Worldwide Marriage Encounter is not just
for married couples. As Marriage is a Sacrament, so is Holy Orders, and as a husband
and wife need to work at their relationship, so does a Priest.
His spouse is his people, the Church. Equally, members of a
Religious Order need to work at their relationship with their
fellow members. So encourage your Priest(s) and Sisters to
experience a Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend.
Marriage Encounter Weekends will be at Our Lady of Fatima Retreat House, Indianapolis April 29 to May 1, 2016,
and at the Clarion Hotel, Clarksville from February 5-7,
2016. For more information, contact Dave or Donna Roller

THE
MESSAGE
OF
MERCY THROUGH 40 DAYS FOR LIFE
Looking for a way for yourself or your family to share in
the Jubilee Year of Mercy as proclaimed by Pope Francis? A beautiful opportunity to practice the spiritual work
of mercy of praying for the living and the dead, especially
during Lent, is our fourth local 40 Days for Life Campaign.
Join us, just northeast of the Fishers Target, at the Fishers
Planned Parenthood, 8937 Technology Drive. For many at
our fall campaign, this was their first time to participate in
pro-life ministry and they enjoyed the peaceful, prayerful
atmosphere. The prayer vigil will take place from Ash
Wednesday, February 10 through Palm Sunday, March
20; Monday-Saturday 7AM-7PM and Sundays noon7PM. We gather to give public witness to the sacredness of
life and to pray for all involved – women, men, babies,
Planned Parenthood employees, those who are suffering
from a past abortion and ourselves- that we might all be
more fully converted to the Truth of the precious gift of life.
About 20 "winter warriors" braved the frigid temperatures
at our Opening Rally, over half of whom came to pray for
the very first time! There are still many open vigil hours
available for YOU throughout the remainder of Lent and
God will surely bless you for your sacrifice and witness. We
also have two special events:


Youth/Family Rally Saturday, February 27th at noon at
the Fishers Planned Parenthood, led by Guerin Catholic

Closing Speaker and Supper Sunday, March 20th at
6 PM in the Craig Willy Hall
Each event will feature a compelling personal witness to
God’s mercy and faithfulness, including the powerful
motivational speaker, SLDM's own Karen Volpe, as our
closing event speaker. Please join us for these hopefilled stories and invite family and friends – a wonderful
way to evangelize! Questions - contact Rosie Zatkulak at

is Matching Gift Month!
Matching gifts can double or even triple the impact of your
gift to educational institutions like St. Louis de Montfort
Catholic School. Some companies will match volunteer
hours as well as gifts made by retirees. More than 15,000
companies and subsidiaries have a program that matches
gifts made to support education. In fact 1 in 10 companies
has a matching gift program.
We have a new matching gift search tool on the website to
check whether your company offers a matching gift program (under “Support”) and simply type your employer’s
name in the box. If your company matches gifts—the specifics of the program will be detailed (including match ratio,
eligibility, contact information, etc.). Some companies even
have online forms accessible from the detail page to submit
electronically.
If you or your spouse works for Liberty Mutual—they have
the Give with Liberty Program which matches 50 cents on
every dollar that employees donate through online pledging
or payroll deduction. Gifts made to the Sally Burton Food
