Caroga Creek ready for new season Photo submitted Ryan Liitt (10) races side-by-side with Jason Kretser (40) during stock lite action at Caroga Creek Raceway in Ephratah on May 13, 2011. By PAUL WAGER The Leader-Herald EPHRATAH — Though just one event is in the book, Caroga Creek Raceway is off to a significantly better start this season than last. At this point last season, Caroga Creek had postponed its opener once and racers didn't hit the track for the first event until May 13. The result was an abbreviated season that saw the points chase begin in June and end just 15 events later. "We want to get some help from Mother Nature this year," Caroga Creek co-promoter Tom Hall said. "No rainouts would be nice." The Caroga Creek staff has been busy in the offseason working to add a VIP tower to the track as well as working in several loads of new clay for the racing surface. "We've added VIP towers this year. They will be available for sponsors and rentals," Hall said. "We've put more clay down this year, so the surface should be good." Hall said he's hoping to draw 55-60 karts each week this season, which began Saturday with the track's test and tune event as well as a swap meet. This year's schedule features the usual weekly card, which includes several kart classes as well as the slingshots. This year admission will be $3 for spectators. The track also is planning to host lawnmower races this season as well. In addition to its regular shows, Caroga Creek will host several special events this season. The point chase is scheduled to begin April 27 at Caroga Creek. The New York Dirt Kart Series is scheduled to visit May 12. The New York Dirt Kart Series also will visit Paradise Speedway (April 28), Turkey Trot Raceway (June 16), Limerock Speedway (June 23), Ransomville Speedway (July Photo submitted Jack Bublak finished second in the All-Star Slingshot points last season at Caroga Creek Raceway in Ephratah. 21), Allegany Memorial Speedway (Aug. 18) and Starlite Speedway (Sept. 8) this season. Caroga Creek also will host its annual King of Dirt Series on May 25, June 22, July 27 and Aug. 31. The track will hosts its fifth annual Clash at the Creek event on Sept. 14 as well as its annual Dual Action Weekend Aug. 24 and 25. The Empire Unlimited All-Stars will visit the track on May 18. Caroga Creek will wrap up its season with the fourth annual Burris Fall Series on Sept. Motocross 22, Sept. 29, Oct. 6 and Oct. 13. "Hopefully, it will be a dry and hot summer. We're hoping to have some fun racing this year. We're excited to get going." Caroga Creek is scheduled to be back in action Friday with a regular show beginning at 7 p.m. before the Richard Murtaugh Racing Outlaw Series visits on April 14.
