What is fptv?
Ferguslie Park Television (FPTV) is
an innovative community information
channel which is unique to Ferguslie Park.
Through FPTV, a host of information
programmes are being brought to the
community of Ferguslie Park. These
programmes provide residents with up to
date information about the Housing
Association, the areas regeneration, local
community groups, events and activities.
Local people can view FPTV through
plasma screens located in Ferguslie
Park Housing Associations Office and
Ferguslie Park’s Community Centre, The
Tannahill Centre.
Ferguslie Park Housing Association
created this pioneering channel with
funding from Communities Scotland Wider
Role Grant.

New to fptv
The Association’s Communications and
Promotions Officer saw the development
of FPTV as an ideal opportunity to
promote Ferguslie Park, the Association
and the Federation of Local Associations
in Renfrewshire (FLAIR).
The Association is increasingly involving
the community in developing and
sustaining the channel through creating
and developing programmes. It is
believed this involvement will lead to
a growth in programmes, community
ownership and the positive promotion of
Ferguslie Park. The daughter of one
of our tenants who is undertaking a
degree course in media studies recently
volunteered to carry out local news
assignments which will be featured on
FPTV.
Anti Social Behaviour Animation
A special feature developed for FPTV
is an innovative animation about how to
deal with anti social behaviour entitled
“Ferguslie Forever”.
Policy and how best to tackle
problems. It is a pioneering approach
to tackling anti social behaviour
which affects all Housing Providers
in Renfrewshire.
The animation developed by award
winning design company Big Alba
Design is a light hearted but factual
look at how the Association and the
community can work together to tackle
anti social behaviour.
Members of the community were
involved in the making of the animation
and the local radio station provided
sound and recording services using local
people. The animation highlights the

New Programmes
Development of FPTV
In September 2004 the development of
FPTV started on a small scale with the
creation of the Ferguslie Park Timeline as
a feature at the Associations Community
Conference. The Associations Communications and Promotions Officer, Susan
Bone along with a Housing Officer, Ian
Nelson who has a keen interest in
information technology developed the
Timeline. This short programme is a
photographic and text guide to how the
area has been developed from past to
present. It was very popular with visitors
who had lived through the regeneration
of Ferguslie and also highlighted to the
community, agencies and stakeholders
how successful the regeneration process
has been.
This initial success brought home
the importance of the medium in
being both relevant and a universally
acceptable format. Since the creation of
the timeline aspirations have rose and
the idea of FPTV has grown at a
steady pace. An FPTV logo was
created, further programmes about
the Association were created and a
screen for the Associations office was
purchased. Funding from Communities
Scotland Wider Role Grant was received.
Since receiving funding from Communities Scotland FPTV programmes have
increased and more of the community
have had the chance to view FPTV
through a plasma screen which has been
installed in the Tannahill Centre.
FPTV now has an extensive viewing
schedule which is constantly being added
to. A combination of professional and
community resources are used to create
FPTV programmes which now include:
Who Are FPHA This explains in
straightforward terms who we are, the
Associations role within the community and
who manages the Association.
Our Allocations Policy This is a clear
and simple guide to how we allocate
houses and has details of houses that
are available.
Our Complaints Procedure A guide to
how tenants can raise any concerns about

September 2004 in the Tannahill Centre.
This feature includes information, text and
pictures of the conference and the opening
of our new housing development Candren
South E Phase 2. The programme helps to
reinforce and repeat the messages from
the conference.
