Guest of the most prestigious festivals and concert halls, such as the New York Carnegie Hall, the Shanghai Opera, the Moscow Tchaikovski Hall, the London Wigmore Hall, the Hong Kong Opera, the Paris Théâtre des Champs Elysées, the Munich Gasteig…, he has already performed 1000 times in 120 countries, receiving rare reviews by the critics. Thibault has also participated in many TV and radio shows and has cooperated with famous musicians, composers and symphony orchestras. Thibault is considered a u9nique icon in the music world, an innovative and creative performer, always working on the evolution of the classical guitar music. He was awarded 13 “1st prize” in international competitions since 2002 (Los Angeles, San Francisco, Valencia, Alicante, Malaga, Fontainebleau, Vienna…). Thibault has been appointed « Ambassador of the City Bordeaux ». The famous Sevillian guitar manufacture « Antonio Bernal » created two guitar models featuring Thibault Cauvin. Thibault has been endorsed by the American strings company D’Addario for 5 years and is playing a guitar made by Jean-Luc Joie. 4 This lecture tells the story of the Andalusian philosopher Ibn Tufayl (1110-1185), the Caliph’s astronomer who developped a new vision relating to empirism, education, natural religion and the “noble savage” myth, all of which deeply impacted the works of Locke, Leibniz, Rousseau and Defoe in the 18th century’s philosophy. Seminar “ French, a language for international exchange – Learning, communicating and working in French in the Gulf States” Séminaire « Le français, langue des échanges mondiaux : apprendre, communiquer et travailler en français dans le Golfe » : لغة المداوالت العالمية- ندوة تحت عنوان “اللغة الفرنسية ”التعلم والتواصل والعمل باللغة الفرنسية في بلدان الخليج Lecture: “50 years of diplomatic relations” Conférence “50 ans de relations diplomatiques” سنة من العالقات الدبلوماسية50“ ”مؤتمر تحت عنوان This seminar is jointly organized by the French Institutes (Institut français) of Paris and Kuwait, Agence Universitaire de la Francophonie (AUF) and the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development (MAEDI). Participants from 5 Gulf countries (Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and United Arab Emirates) are invited to reflect on the role and future of French within the region. During this two-day seminar, presentations and workshops will focus on the following three dimensions: « learn » (teaching in French and development of French as a foreign language in schools and universities), « communicate » (technologies and tools for enhanced communication in French) and « work » (career prospects for professionals and examples of companies and advanced research done in French). The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Paris, the French Institute-Paris and the Paris-based International Centre for Pedagogics (Centre International d ‘ Etudes Pédagogiques - CIEP) will also showcase their digital and training tools. Please note that Organisation Internationale de la francophonie (OIF) will present on the occasion of this seminar its latest annual report on the situation of French worldwide. A cross-examination of French and Kuwaiti geopolitical policies over the last 50 years. Do both countries share the same vision of the world and its international relations? How do they look at cooperation and development on issues like woman labor, special needs and translation matters? This two-part lecture on international relations and evolution of both societies will as much highlight 50 years of French-Kuwaiti history as trace possible common prospects for both nations. She has appeared in such prestigious settings as Carnegie Hall in New York, Dame Myra Hess Series of Chicago, Opera City Hall of Tokyo, National Gallery of Art in Washington D.C., and National Concert Hall of Taipei. A winner of many competitions and awards, Pulitzer Prize-winning music critic Martin Bernheimer wrote about her playing: “eloquently and elegantly passion and introspection sensitivity and a finely honed sense of style.” She was the recipient of Prix-Ville de Fontainebleau in France, which was personally presented to her by Philippe Entremont. Her performances have been featured on National Public Radio, WFMT Chicago, Chicago Loop Cable Channel 25, KUHF in Houston, Radio Video Mediterraneo of Italy, Nippon Television in Japan, and the Living & Travel Section of msnbc.com. Stephanie holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. Her principal teachers were Ann Schein and Gilbert Kalish. Dr. Cheng was on the faculties of the Manhattan School of Music and the City University of New York , and joined the faculty of the American University of Kuwait as an Assistant Professor of Music in the fall of 2012. Activities will be available for school classes at MILSET exhibition hall. PAAET and its navigation simulator will also partner the event. 12 13 Thursday 20 November Thursday 27 and Saturday 29 November French school of Kuwait (Lycée francais du Koweït) – 6:30 pm Abdul Aziz Hussein Cultural Center - 7:00 pm Lecture “Archaeologists on Failaka!” Conférence “Archéologues à Failaka !” ”مؤتمر تحت عنوان “ عالم آثار في فيلكا Musical and Poetic Caravan – ASWAT 2 (French-Kuwaiti project) Caravane musicale et poétique – ASWAT 2 (Projet franco-koweïtien) (فرنسي مشترك- (مشروع كويتي2 أصوات- قافلة موسيقية وشعرية Since 2011, a French-Kuwaiti archaeological mission has been working on the Island of Failaka, unveiling the remains of a fortress reaching back to the Hellenistic period, as well as a Christian village (probably a monastery) from the Islamic era. This lecture will showcase the working methods of the archaeologists and other specialists teaming on the mission, while featuring their achievements on these two sites, which proved fundamental for the understanding of the history of Kuwait. French artistic director Malik Berki, will come in Kuwait with musicians and dancers for week-long workshop with Kuwaiti artists. They will share practices and create an exclusive show for Kuwaiti music lovers. In collaboration with LOYAC association, this workshop intends to be a unique moment of artistic dialogue between France and Kuwait and it will go through several different cultures. After a first and acclaimed edition in 2012, Malik is back for a grandiose and popular show Mrs Julie Bonnéric, team leader of the French-Kuwaiti Archeological Mission on Failaka, is an Associate Researcher at the Department of Arab, medieval and modern studies of the Institut français du Proche-Orient (IFPO) since October 2011. She holds a PhD in Islamic and Medieval History from the Higher School of Practical Studies (EPHE - Paris) and specialized in the symbolics of light and fragrances in classical Islam.
