THE WORD OF GOD THIS SUNDAY: For this Sunday,
the Feast of All Saints, the Scriptural readings begin with
a passage from the Book of Revelation in which we are
told of a great multitude who stand before the Lamb. In
the second reading, from the First Letter of John, we are
told of the great love God has for us as the children of
God. In the Gospel, Jesus teaches His disciples that the
elements of the present age will be overturned by the
power of God.
NOVEMBER 1ST ALL SAINTS DAY: November 1st is
the Holy Day of All Saints. This year it takes place on a
Sunday and replaces the liturgy of the 31st Sunday in
Ordinary Time. All weekend Masses are those celebrating All Saints.
ALL SOULS’ DAY: November 2nd is All Souls’ Day.
Masses at Saint Kilian on that day are at 10:00 a.m.
(Parish Center gym) and 7:00 p.m. (auditorium of Cardinal Wuerl North Catholic High School). The 7:00 p.m.
Mass on All Soul’s Day is celebrated here at Saint Kilian
for all those who have died in the past twelve months.
Their names are read and their families are invited to
come forward and receive a special commemorative
cross. Please join with the many families who will be attending to remember their loved ones who have died.
SYMPATHY: The sympathy of the parish is extended to
parishioner, Dr. Rick Maley, Jr. and his family, at the
death of his father, Dr. Richard Maley, Sr. May his soul
and all the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God rest in peace.
COATS THANK YOU: We received an abundance of
coats, winter items and sleeping bags/blankets from our
drive. Thanks to you, six charities throughout Butler, Wexford and Pittsburgh will each be receiving donation deliveries to distribute to our brothers and sisters in Christ to
help keep them warm this winter. THANK YOU!
NEIGHBORS IN NEED: Jr. SKY will be assembling food
boxes for both Thanksgiving and Christmas which will be delivered by St. Vincent
de Paul volunteers. If you know of someone in need who should receive one of
these boxes, please email Jo Scheller at
jscheller@saintkilian.org to be added to the list. To contribute to the collection, use the VolunteerSpot link that is
on our Jr. SKY webpage or email Jo for a direct link.

CARING QUILT MINISTRY: The Caring Quilt
Ministry would like to give a special thanks to two
very special women. Jean who lives in Georgia
and Alice in North Carolina. For those of you who
think you can’t help out, let them be a shining example. They decorate squares on a regular basis and mail
them to us. Jean from Georgia has been helping for over 3
years and she recruited her friend from North Carolina who
just joined us. Love and talent have traveled across states
to help make this ministry a success. Remember quilts are
always available at the Parish Center. Questions, comments, contact Betsy Pfendler at 724-766-7435 or
betsy000@zoominternet.net.
In the Gospel today, Jesus tells us: “You shall
love the Lord your God with all your heart, with
all your soul, with all your mind, and with all
your strength…and you shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
Through your gift to the Society of St. Vincent de
Paul you can show your love for our Lord and your
love of your neighbor who is hungry, hopeless, alone
and frightened. If you know of a family in need,
please contact the Society of St. Vincent de Paul by
calling the parish office. God Bless!

MUSIC MINISTRY: This feast day originated in the
Eastern Church as a remembrance of martyrs who
faced the ultimate cost of discipleship: they gave their
very lives in fidelity to Jesus. Over time the church recognized that holiness of life (being a saint) is lived by
ordinary people doing ordinary good things. The lofty
ideals of the Beatitudes (Gospel and communion song
Blest Are They) are embraced by those who care for a
sick child, forgive someone who has made a sharp remark, share with those who have little, listen compassionately to those who are grieving, and exhibit courage in face of injustice. All of us are called to this same
holiness (sainthood) by faithfully following Jesus.

Second Graders Are Busy Learners
It all started with hello on the first day of school. Bam… we are in second grade, now what?
Each school day is packed with the adding and subtracting, problem solving, logical thinking, understanding
data, graphing information and making logical predictions. We are reading, writing, journaling, spelling, learning
about different communities, and discovering how the solar system works and the seasons change. So much
learning in just nine weeks of school, but the most important learning is when we learn more about our faith.
Second graders have learned that God created each of us in His image and when we look at each other we know Christ is
there. We work together to make the world a wonderful place. Fr. Bober and Fr. Levi affirm this each week when we celebrate liturgy as a whole school. Their homilies give us a thought for the week to bring the gospel to life by our actions at
home, at school and in the community. Additionally second grade celebrated a grade level Mass with Fr. Levi in the chapel.
In religion class Deacon Ralph visited and shared with us how the Sacrament of Baptism brought us in as members of the
church and started us on the journey to walk with Christ. Also in religion class the children engage in classroom conversations as they recognize God’s hand in everything around them. The sun, the moon, the stars, the planets, and the seasons
exist because of God creating them and we must take care of His world. Second graders partner with the eighth graders to
journey in faith sharing, too. The eighth grade class shared the story of Saint Theresa of the Little Flower with their second
grade friends. They explained that Saint Theresa did good deeds to help other people and used beads to count her sacrifices of love each day. The eighth graders made sacrifice beads and gave them to the second graders. The second graders quickly began to use the beads to count their quiet good deeds. In their own faithful way, the second and eighth graders are working to build the Kingdom of God.
Our students experience the power of God in so many ways. The joy of learning, the excitement of discovering, and the
passion for life happens daily in second grade. We sincerely thank you for your support which allows Saint Kilian Parish
School to not only provide exemplary academics but also a solid foundation that is rooted in the teachings of our shared
Catholic identity.
