TASCOSA Talk The Newsletter of the Tascosa High School Excellence Council - May 2010 Dear Parent: Well, here we are celebrating the end of another successful school year. If your student is a graduating senior, I congratulate you and your child on this wonderful accomplishment. If there is ever anything we at Tascosa can do for you or your family, please let us know. If your child is returning to Tascosa High School in the fall, I hope you and your family have a restful and productive summer in preparation for next school year. We have given the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test to our 9th, 10th, and 11th graders and are anxiously awaiting the results. The students and staff have worked extremely hard to make sure we are successful on this very high stakes test. You should be receiving the results in the next few weeks. I invite you to contact your child’s counselor if you have any questions about the results. We are currently in the midst of giving Advanced Placement Exams. Our AP program continues to excel with the number of students enrolled in rigorous courses and the number of students signed up for the exams. Tascosa is blessed to have a donor who provides resources that allow us to serve as many students as possible in these programs. If your child will be a freshman next year, please mark your calendar for August 10, the date scheduled for our 9th grade orientation, “Cruisin with Tascosa.” This is a very important day for our incoming 9th graders and their parents. Once again, it has been a rewarding experience working with the Tascosa Excellence Council over the past year. The commitment of this group of parents for our school is inspiring, and I highly encourage you to join them if you are not already a member. As always I would like to thank you for your continued support of Tascosa High School. Please feel free to come by or call if you have any questions or concerns. Sincerely, Lynn Pulliam, Principal If your student has received notice of an immunization that is due, please get the shot before school is out and return the validation to the school nurse. THEY WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO ENROLL IN AUGUST WITHOUT THE REQUIRED IMMUNIZATION. Jeanne Sievers, R.N. In this issue: Reigning Rebels . . . . . Club & Sport News . . . . . Counselor Notes . . . . With that spark, and under the combined leadership of the Student Council, Jr. ROTC, Graphic Design Club, French Club, DECA and the Key Club, our students raised $1,300 to assist the Red Cross in their great relief efforts there. The “standout” class in this effort was our sophomores who alone raised half of this money. Thanks to all who contributed so generously to help our “neighbors to the south.” 2 f e i l e R ti i a H THS fort Ef -2010 NHS NHS Inductees For The 2010-2011 School Year: Jacob Alexander Maggie Baay Noah Beggs Kendra Berry Colton Bickerstaff Peyton Bivins Allison Blanchard Andrew Blanchard Sam Boyce Jackson Bush Alma Bustamante Kylan Carroll Kylee Castellini Carlie Cates Jacy Chafin Kristen Coffman Becca Coker Mary Elizabeth Collie Cara Collins Holly D’Atri Clint Diaz Charley Jr. Dougherty Emma Elkins Genesis Garcia Jose Gonzalez Audrey Hamker Travis Hayne Benjamin Hopper Hillary Hoyl Kimberly Huber Taylor Huntley Elizabeth Hutson Alex Ives Eric Ledesma Cynthia Leyva Banner Long Courtney Lovett Ruth Lumpkin Alejandro Magallanes Jacob Morris Payton Northrup Logan Ortega Kushal Patel Nishita Patel Zachary Patton Jennifer Payne Quintin Perry Josh Pina Patricia Pratommarath Victoria Ramirez Parker Rittenberry NHS Officers il c n u o C Student Andy Roberts Dancey Robinson Celeste Rodarte Olivia Savage Trey Savage Ean Schmitt Amber Sherwood Sarabeth Statser Patrick Supina Kristen Varela Kaemon Vigil T’Reya Vogler Jordan Walker Holly Waller Hart Wilmarth Ruth Woldemichael Cortney Woodall President – Shai Vogler VP – Kushal Patel Secretary – Amber Sherwood Treasurer - Nishita Patel Historian – Audrey Hamker Student Council Officers 2010-2011 Executive Council: President: Allison Blanchard Vice-President: Andrew Blanchard Treasurer: Parker Rittenberry Recording Secretary: Peyton Bivins Corresponding Secretary: Phoebe Brent Parliamentarian: Thomas McIlraith Speaker of the House: Wells Pfeffer Chaplain: Faith Simpson Historian: Madeline Ritchie Event Chairman: Colton Bickerstaff Yearbooks are still on sale in Room 2210 for $75.
