Liz Nagy PENDOZI L OG W E S T BA N K YAC H T C L U B words from the WheelhOuse Commodore’s Report A s Commodore I have been privileged to attend many great functions around the lake this year. From Vernon’s Dryland Invasion back in March, some of the club’s invasions, and almost all of the Commodore’s Ball functions so far. It has been a whirlwind of fabulous events and all of them have been extremely enjoyable. The hospitality of the other clubs improves every year and it is getting to be a tough thing to be a little better than the last event although our events have been fabulous. The greatest thing we have experienced, beyond the hospitality, has been all the people that we have met, and enjoyed a beverage or two with. It is a great thing to pull into a moorage basin, get tied up, settled in, and someone comes knocking on your boat for a visit. This happens wherever you go. It shows great camaraderie and hospitality and we have enjoyed it all. It is not over yet either - there are invasions, baseball tournaments, regattas, bar-be-ques, golf tournaments, and formal balls coming up. The season is not over yet - not by a long shot. All members are welcome to sign up for these events; check your calendar, phone Liz, or call the club of your choice and find out what functions Office Manager’s Report I t seems like I have started my own tradition for the Invasion weekend and once again this year ended up in the water. This year it was by choice however. Let me tell you the water is still very, very cold!! Thank you to Linda & Dennis Garand for taking me that they have coming up and take your boat or drive down and enjoy their events. On a more serious note, it is almost time for the elections of the board of directors for the next fiscal year. Full members (new and not-so-new) are welcome to toss their hats into the ring. As you can see from the above, it’s not all work. Let us know if there is any new interest as soon as you can. Tom Stephens Commodore weekend for you to see the new colors & styles. We have added white ones for the ladies this time around. Let me know what you think of the new logo. They are selling quickly so make sure to pick yours up. The boys at the bar will be happy to help you. on their boat this year. We had a blast surprising people with an array of water guns & cannons. I wish you all happy boating for Aug & Sept. Get out there and enjoy the sun now that it is finally here. Our new supply of baseball caps are now in stock & waiting for you. From the open house, cardboard boat races all the way to the Invasion, the club was certainly a buzz with high energy. The Invasion was a blast! Neon was everywhere! From the wild neon décor, the neon bracelets and drinking straws to the awesome effort put into costumes, It was a real tribute to the 80’s era! The eighties band’s “Lights out” and “Wildfire” packed the dance floor well past 1:00A.M. The RCMP even showed up in their bright colors! (Enough said). The other clubs from Penticton to Vernon partied their hearts out. Commodore Bob Smith from KYC and Staff Captain Deb MacMillan wowed the crowd with their version of Flashdance! Awesome job! Our Guess who’s who from the 80’s contest gave us a glimpse back to what some members looked like back then. WOW! Interesting photos. On top of that… WOW! $1400.00 in prizes was given out to attendees by way of door prizes and contests! Poker run. First prize. $400.00 Second prize. $100.00 Third prize. $100.00 50/50 prize. $270.00 A Huge thank you to these merchants who donated the following prizes: • Dockside Marine - $150.00 door prize •Wal-Mart -$50.00 gift certificate. The 80’s have come and gone. Just like the 50’s 60’s and 70’s each had something special to contribute to our lives. It’s always fun for a moment to go back and reflect. Let’s make this upcoming decade a very special one to remember through our good deeds and respect for one and other. Cheers to all good things in 2010! Don’t forget to get your tickets early for Rib’n N Blues August 14th. Martin Gerard Staff Captain NOTE: Please try to take your garbage to the Regional barrels just outside of the gate. It helps save on our garbage disposal! Page 5 PENDOZI L OG W E S T BA N K YAC H T C LU B Vice Commodore’s Report I am staring out the window at blue skies and people walking by in shorts and sunglasses. This means that summer has finally arrived, thank goodness. I hope you members have had a chance to take advantage of the few nice days we have had and been out on the water and of course down to the club. Gayle and I want to thank Marty and Linda for the hugely successful invasion, to be honest I think they put on the one of the best parties I have been too in ages. I know that Marty was worried sick about how things would go. W Rib’n N Blues is coming up on August 14th. Phat Betty is coming back to the patio at the request of many members. Please get your tickets early so we can plan the BBQ and get your dancing shows polished up. Have a safe August on the water and we will see you at the club. John Hudson Vice Commodore A small note on the invasion, next year we will try to get a message to the Outdoor Maintenance Report asn’t the WYC invasion weekend a blast? Hats off to the Gerard’s for the fantastic job of organizing the weekend. From the BBQ Friday evening to the breakfast on Sunday morning I trust that everyone who attended any or all of these events had a great time. All of our guests were appreciative of Al James’ boat owners who may have their boat blocked during the invasion to warn them personally. excellent job of squeezing everyone in. Saturday evening was truly a flashback to the eighties with a great meal, fun costumes and lots of dancing. Cheers to the Gerard’s and everyone who helped make the weekend such a success! The next big event is Rib’n N Blues on Aug 14th featuring Phat Betty. If you missed Phat Betty last year this is your opportunity to see her live. If you were there last year I know you will be back. Be sure to get your tickets early as this event is always a sell out. Not much to report regarding outdoor maintenance. Things are in pretty good shape and we have a few small projects on the go. If you have some time to help out give me a call or drop me a line at daverose01@gmail.com. See you at the club. Floatsam: Anything floating in the water from which there is no response when an offer of a cocktail is made. Fluke: The portion of an anchor that digs securely into the bottom, holding a boat in place; also, any occasion when this occurs on the first try. Our hearts and thoughts go out to her beloved husband, Peter who has been at her side throughout this long ordeal. Fuel: Sailboat without auxiliary engines do not require fuel as such, but an adequate supply of a pale yellow carbonated beverage with a 10% to 12% alcohol content is essential to the operation of all recreational craft.
