llen McLeod was a charter
member (1962) of the Westbank
Yacht Club and was instrumental
in the beaching, and the reconstruction
of the old Pendozi car ferry into the
clubhouse that we have today. Allen
was the first Commodore (1964) of
the ‘new’ clubhouse. Allen spent an
enormous amount of time at the Club
and was always enthusiastic about the
welfare of the Club. Allen & his wife
Pat tried to attend the Sailpast every
year and were extremely appreciative
of the hospitality supplied on Robert &
Chris Klaus’s boat “the monarch”. Allen
was also a huge source of historical
information and many articles in the
Log, over the years, were supplied by
him. While he had not been able to
attend any functions in the past few
years due to his illness, he will always
be remembered with great respect for
his contributions to our Club.
Please remember that the AGM will
be held on Wednesday, November
16, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. and it would
be great if all members could attend.
This is the evening that members can
contribute with their vote to the ongoing maintenance of the Club. It is
very important to have your vote.
As this is my last log report, I would
like to say how proud I am to have been
part of the the directorship of this Club
and to be a member of this, the greatest
Yacht club in the valley.
Tom Stephens
Commodore

If we have missed anyone on this list we are truly sorry.
Thanks again,

it’s hard to believe it’s over! This
is my last report as Staff Captain. I
have greatly enjoyed working alongside
the other Flag officers, Directors and all
of the volunteers who have contributed
many hours throughout the year. I thank
all of you for helping me perform the
duties required by the position. Many
hours of thought and preparation go
into events and issues that we deal with
together as a growing club. On Oct 14th
we heard of the passing of one of our
clubs-founding officer’s, Commodore
Allan Mcleod. I did not know him
personally however do know that his
efforts and enthusiasm for the WYC

barely finished up the activities
of September and it is almost
November.
I want to take the opportunity to extend
my thanks to all the great members of
the WYC who made an effort this year
to share their time with the club through
volunteer activities. Sometimes we (club

others are working behind the scene to

Bar Director’s
Report
T
he year has flown by and I
suddenly find myself writing my
last report as your Bar Director.
It has been a great year due primarily
to the support I’ve received from a few
key players that bare mentioning:
Rob McBride: without Rob the bar
simply would not run. He manages the
inventory, takes care of the staffing and
calmly deals with anything we throw
at him – all with a smile on his face!
Thanks Rob for your support.
Tony Grzegorzewski: he has become a
fixture behind the bar, backing Rob up,
handling the drinks and making the
perrrrfect martini! Keep up the great
work Tony – I wonder what the new Bar
Director’s favorite drink will be???
Terry Jaggers: many of you probably
don’t realize but Terry takes care of
the heavy lifting – literally! He brings
in the supplies so that we are sure to
have your favorites. My back thanks
you Terry.
Of course, my list wouldn’t be complete
if I didn’t thank our loyal patrons. I
really appreciate how you have tried
to help us move the lines quickly,
demonstrated patience when things
haven’t been running as smoothly as
we hoped, and diligently sign into the
club book. Keep on coming down and
showing your support for your club.
Cheers!

OF
THE
The Salvation Army is looking
for volunteers for their
Kettle Campaign over the
Christmas season and have
approached us. We require 3
to 6 people from the club to
volunteer 2 hours of their time.
If more people volunteer you
could drop your time down to
1 hour each.
Now is
the time
to make
Christmas
wine!
They would provide a sign on
the kettle stating
“Westbank Yacht Club Helping
the Salvation Army”. Sounds
like a nice charitable thing to
do.
If anyone is interested and can
spare a couple of hours in
helping out this great cause,
please contact me for further
information.

O
ur Westbank Yacht Club
Fall Work Party was a great
success. It was a beautiful day
for working around the club. The long
list of jobs were all checked off and a
few additional jobs were done as well.
I’m sure everyone enjoyed the delicious
Turkey Pot Pie dinner. Congratulations
to the lucky volunteers who won the
Sun-Rype juice. Special thanks to the
Anchor Club and all of the hard working
members who came out to help prepare
the club for winter. Great Job!
There are still a few members taking
advantage of the beautiful fall boating
weather. If you are still out there
enjoying the peaceful lake please do
so carefully. When you pull your boat
out for the season please take your
ropes and spring lines with you.
The WYC Annual General Meeting
is on Nov 16th. This is your chance
to have your voice heard and to elect
your new Board. Thanks for all of the
Outdoor Maintenance support over the
past year. I look forward to another year
working with the Board and so many
great Volunteers. See you on the 16th.

M
y time as Entertainment
Director has wound down
and in many ways I am sorry
to have this opportunity pass. I know
Darwin Harmon will do an excellent job
and I wish him tons of luck next year.
The year was very successful with an
amazing New Year’s Eve party organized
by Rita & Mark DeCew. The Olympic
theme was perfect and everyone had a
blast participating in the various games.
Our Newcomer’s party, complete with
live “horses” enjoyed the races planned
by Dave Johnston. Kevin Jones was a
strict Marshall and the function was
well attended.
Many thanks to Brian & Sandy Jamieson
for organizing the Lobster night, yum,
yum. They always do an excellent job.
Also, thanks to John & Gayle Hudson
for organizing Rib’n N Blues — another
yum, yum.
The golf tournament was a rainy day but
didn’t dampen our member’s spirits. We
had 48 golfers and were well fed at the
club enjoying prizes, which Darwin had
organized (along with Sue’s help).

how appreciative I am of everyone’s
