JULY - AUGUST 2009 VOLUME 55 NO. 5 Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints Psalm 116:15... Gailya Devota Myers (Sister Gail) completed her journey on June 5, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. in Virginia. Born to parents Nora and Gale Myers on April 23, 1919, she was called to carry the gospel to Mexico. Sis Gail spent her life ministering to Mexico, Panama, San Blas Islands and Columbia Her. Homecoming Celebration was June 18, 2009 at the Bristow campgrounds. The scripture in Job 14 : 5 Seeing his days are determined, the number of his months are with thee.. was brought home when the timing of her death coincided with Bristow camp meeting. How she loved being there with all her friends! Thursday morning service was dedicated to the homecoming celebration of Gail Myers! The crowd stood in hushed reverence as her casket was carried past a line of honorary pallbearers one last time to the front at Bristow camp meeting. Sis. Gail April 23, 1919 The service was a fitting tribute to this soldier of faith. It seemed all attending and participating in the service felt we were part of our church history in this salute to a legend. Countless times Sis. Gail had expressed her wish, to die on a mountaintop in Mexico with her boots on! The passion of her spirit still burned bright and her calling was still strong even when her physical strength failed. When it was apparent to everyone that her days on the mission field were completed she continued to make plans to return just as soon as, She got to feeling better! At her death her boots may not have been planted on a mountain top in Mexico, but her heart was there! Sister Gail leaves behind countless spiritual sons and daughters. Her legacy of pioneering churches, building training centers, radio broadcasts and financial support for the ministry still lives on across Mexico and Central America. Her legacy will live on, not only in her work, but also in our hearts. Brother Neil Bridges, the President of Full Gospel Holiness Missions led the service and shared stories of her courage, determination and dedication. Brother Fred Wiley read the obituary quoting Shakespeares Mark Antony , D. Myers Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me - June 5, 2009 your ears; I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him; The good is oft interred with their bones He shared that we came together today not just to bury, but to praise Sis. Gail, and we would not be interring the good she had done. Her work will live on through the ministers and churches in Mexico and Central America. Joe and Sharon Armbrister moved us to tears with their beautiful rendition of Welcome to Heaven! (See, Gail Myers, Page 3) WWW.HOLINESSMESSENGER.COM THE HOLINESS MESSENGER P.O. The Word of God alone shall be the Doctrine, Practice, and Discipline of this Board of Members: it being understood that we receive it as the inspired Word of God and the Divine rule of faith and conduct. We believe in God the Father Almighty. Maker of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only begotten Son, who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried and arose on the third day according to the Scriptures, afterwards ascended into heaven where He is now seated at the right hand of God the Father, from whence He is come again to judge the quick and dead. We believe in Water Baptism and that it should be administered to every believer according to the Scriptures given by St. Matthew 3:17;28:19; St. Mark 16:15; Acts 8:36-38. We teach that the Blood of Jesus Christ cleanseth from all sin, and sanctifies the believer, thus making him or her eligible to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost which is given to them that obey (Acts 5:32) and the evidence of such experience shall be according to Acts 2:4. We believe in the resurrection of the dead and the Communion of the saints, the Lords Supper and washing the saints feet. We believe that divine healing for our physical bodies was included in His suffering as mentioned by the prophet Isaiah 53:5. It is still available to all who meet conditions and according to His will (James 5:14). We believe that all ministers should be of good report (1 Timothy 3:7-12) including Pastors, Evangelists, Deacons and Elders (Titus 1:5-7); and husbands of one wife. We believe the Church of Jesus Christ to be a living Organism. The Body of Christ, and habitation of God through the Spirit (Ephesians 2:20-22), and that each true believer is a member of the Body (1 Corinthians 12:14; Acts 2:47). By Brother Ira J. Ralph & Doreen Cox 9737 E. 66th St. Tulsa, OK 74133 Greetings, dear readers! The life of every Christian is based upon prayer. The most praying man in the Bible is Jesus. No one prayed more than Him. He spent the night in prayer not only in the garden but many times upon the mountain. The Bible also tells us the name of the first praying man Enos. His name means death. Men pray when they realize that they are going to die. The ministry of every evangelist is based upon prayer. Praying Hyde prayed for weeks with very little sleep or food. Charles G. Finney sent his men before him to pray for a city. They rented a hotel and prayed day and night until by the time that Finney arrived the bars were ready to close and the factories shut down to hear the preaching of the gospel. The ministry of the circuit riders who brought the gospel to the American frontier was based on prayer. Peter Cartwright stopped at an inn to spend the night, unaware that there was a dance scheduled that night. A young woman decided to be funny and asked the famous preacher to dance with her. Peter Cartright took her hand and led her onto the floor and spoke to the room. I never do anything without asking Gods blessing on it. He began to pray and the young girl fell to her knees and began to beg God to save her. They started a revival there that night. A ministry based upon prayer will produce a minister with a good attitude a good spirit. Bro. Lester Moore told young preachers, Youre attitude will make or break you. You can preach the truth, but your preaching can be so harsh that the truth is hidden behind the attitude. The Gospel of Christ is holy and lovely. You cannot leave the holy out of the gospel, but neither can you leave out the lovely. You can feed hogs corn, or you can take large ears of it and hit them over the head. If you hit them hard and long enough you will kill them instead of feed them. It is not always what you preach, but how you preach it, that can win or lose souls. One pastor was asked if he ever invited anyone to church. No, he replied, they know where the church is and if they want to come, they will. That preacher had a loveless attitude and that spirit will never win souls to Christ. He reminds me of the story that the old war horse of the east, Elder Vince Wilson, told. He heard a man loudly ask God for ignorance. Bro. Vince said, He doesnt need to ask God for more of it, hes already blessed with plenty. One of the key parts of this loving attitude is patience Patience with people and patience with the timing of Gods work. I heard of one mans prayer for patience. God give me patience and give it to me RIGHT NOW, he said. But were only going to get patience when we patiently endure persecution (Romans 5:3). Elijah got impatient with God in I Kings 19:4. He asked God to kill him. If he had just been a little more patient and waited around in Jezreel a few more days, Jezebel would have taken care of that for him. Elijah didnt really want to die. He wanted to see Gods work advance and he lost patience in the midst of tribulation. But when God got through with him Elijah was willing to wait. He went and threw his mantle over Elisha and Elisha liked the feeling of that mantle so much that he followed Elijah around for the next several years waiting to own it. Editor Ralph Cox Page 2 Brother Don Rich shared memories and used the scriptures in Romans 10:14-15 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Emphasizing the last part of that verse..how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel. Donita Wiggins reminded us of the call that we all as Christians can answer when she sung Cosechar (Harvestime in Spanish) Recuerdos (memories) were shared by Brother Ignacio Moralez , President of Full Gospel Missions of Mexico. Brother Manuel Guerra shared his story how Sister Gail would come to their village until his entire family had been saved and filled with the Holy Ghost. He told how Sister Gail helped his start his ministry and later radio ministry. Tears ran down his face as he shared the last time he was with Sister Gail how she took his hand and asked for his promise to keep preaching the gospel. The Eastern Gate was sung as a congregational led by Brother Joe Armbrister. Brother Ben Shaw brought the main message and had us laughing and crying as he challenged any man there to step in her footsteps. He read to u s the Proverbs 31 woman. He brought Sister Gails legacy to life as he compared her life to each scripture in the chapter. He said Sister Gail was totally devoted and married to her work and her husband Jesus and the heart of her husband Jesus, does safely trust in her! Brother Darrell shared his memories of Sister Gail and a poem he had written for her. Who is Gail Myers? A woman, a preacher, a teacher, a missionary, a friend, a companion, a pioneer, a legend. A founder, a president, an administrator, a manager, an author, a navigator, a traveler who went by air, land & sea. To bring the Gospel to the last, the lost & the least. By car, by truck, by train & plane, even by horse, burro & bus. She paddled & peddled, a bicycle too, all to preach the Gospel, to me & to you. The Toliver Trio did a beautiful job on Is This Not the Land of Beulah.Brother Dan Roberts brought the closing prayer and remarks. As the crowd passed by to pay their last respect the Milikens sang a selection of songs including.. Thank you for giving to the Lord.. I am a life that was changed.. A song that was echoed in the hearts of hundreds that said their final goodbye to Gail Myers. The pallbearers were: Aaron Brock Darrell Tolliver Darrell Meadows, Floyd Parks, Joe Armbrister John David Long. Honorary Pallbearers included Neil Bridges Ben Shaw Dan Roberts, Manuel Guerra Ignacio Moralez Mike Flowers ,Don Rich, Leon Rich and Tommy Tolliver . Interpreter Marti Bette from Panama interpreted the entire service to the ministers and families from Mexico. Page 3 "Even the Youth...Shall Mount Up with Wings as the Eagles." David Brock II Charity Tabernacle Cold, Springs KY A SPONTANEOUS HESITATION Spontaneous- Occurring naturally without planning.... Pentecostal Holiness people are supposed to be spontaneous when it comes to the Spirit of God. Often we hesitate to long in obeying the unctioning of the Holy Ghost. Peter spontaneously obeys Christs command and walks on the water. Isaiah spontaneously offers himself to God. But just as important as a spontaneous reaction to the Holy Ghost, there must be a spontaneous hesitation to the Devils deals. In Genesis 25, there were two teenage twin boys in this story. Their names were Esau and Jacob. Their birth was very unique. Esau was born first and as he was being delivered something grabbed a hold of his heel and it wouldnt let go. It was Jacob. (And you thought your brothers and sisters were a pest.) As they grew older, Esau became a man of the field and became a hunter. Jacob was a plain man and tended to the cattle which were in those days the perfect employment. They were around 15 years old when one day Jacob was selling pottage which was like a stew and here come Esau in from hunting all day and was faint. Esau smells the pottage and says to Jacob, Feed me I pray thee for Im faint (starving half to death.) Jacob says, Sell me this day thy birthright? He makes Esau a deal. What is his birthright? Well, Im glad you asked. First of all, next to the father the firstborn had superiority over the rest of the family. Secondly, the firstborn got a double portion of his fathers inheritance. There were other privileges that came with the birthright. He says to himself, Im at the point of death so what good is this birthright. He despised his birthright. Jacob makes him swear to him. Esau DOES NOT hesitate he says, SOLD! SOLD! SOLD! SOLD! The Devil wants to make a deal with you for your birthright. Your birthright is your salvation, the Holy Ghost, your convictions, and your destination. But, there must be a spontaneous hesitation when you hear an offer from the deceiver. Satan will do what ever it takes to get you to say YES to his deal. If you fail to hesitate and you sign on the dotted line, hell give you more than you thought just so youll feel like you got a good deal. Jacob gave Esau bread with his pottage to make the deal look better, but it didnt take him long to realize he shouldve hesitated. The birthright meant more to him than he thought. He wasnt as faint as he thought he was. He exaggerated just for the here and now and it cost him everything. He despised his birthright until he became aware of its value and then it was too late. Young folks, you must realize the value of your birthright. If you dont the devil will entice you with a deal and the flesh wont let you hesitate to say SOLD. Just like in fishing you try to entice that fish to bite the bait while all the while the hook is waiting inside. Prov.1:10 states My son, if sinners entice thee, consent thou not. Jam.1:14 says But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Satan is fishing for you and using whatever it takes to entice you and get you to bite. You must have a spontaneous hesitation before you chomp down on what you think is good for you. Theres been a multitude of people that didnt spontaneously hesitate and took the Devil up on his offer. People such as Lot who chose Sodom & Gomorrah over Abraham, Achan who chose the Babylonian garment, 200 shekels of silver, and a wedge of gold over his family, then theres Demas who chose the world over Paul. But you dont have to look in the Bible to see people whove taken the Devils offer without considering what they were doing. How many friends of ours that at one time worshipped with us and was in our youth groups and choirs and because they didnt hesitate to the enticers offer, he reeled them in. Even if you gain the whole world, its still not a good deal. What good is it to have a full belly but an empty soul? Somewhere along the way you will become faint and the devil will be there to make you a deal. Instead of jumping at the deal and living for the present, let there be a spontaneous hesitation because Is.40:28-31tells us Hast thou not known? Hast thou not heard, that the everlasting God, the Lord, the creator of the ends of the earth, fainteth not, neither is weary? There is no searching for his understanding. He giveth power to the faint, and to them that have no might he increaseth strength. Even the YOUTH shall faint and be weary, and the YOUNG men shall utterly fall: But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint. There must be a spontaneous hesitation when the deceiver makes us a deal. Its been a pleasure to have spoken to you in these few articles. Thanks to Bro. Parks for asking me. May God Bless You Bro. David Brock Jr. Page 4 Sister Gail was then taken to Tennessee for a service there with family members and to be buried beside her mother. By Nancy Edenfield Being raised in holiness all of my life, the name Gail Myers had a special meaning to me. As a child, it was a treat when Sis. Gail would stay in our home and tell of her experiences on the mission field. As a young boy, my husband, Gary, shared the same love for her; so, when the Lord placed a special burden on his heart to move her to Virginia to oversee her care, I felt it quite an honor. Having the starting signs of Alzheimer, she was placed in a nursing home in Edinburg, Texas and there was no one to see that she was properly cared for. So, in January 2005, we flew to Edinburg and brought her to Elkton, VA. Bro. Alvin and Sis. Donna Dovel, who have a small assisted living facility in their home, offered to keep Sis. Gail there. We appreciate so much the kindness that they showed and thank them for their labor of love in caring for her during her stay If you spent any time with Gail Myers Sis. Myers and only means of you often heard her sing this song, transportation in much of the area of sometimes in English, sometimes in her work. Spanish there. Do Lord, O do Lord, O do remember me, . I would take her out for lunch and, on a Sun, Way beyond the blue few occasions, put her in a wheelchair for a shopping trip. If you knew Sis. Gail very well, you know what an independent He DOES remember you, Mama Gail For God is not unrighperson she was. She didnt really like the idea of having to be teous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have pushed around so every time I stopped to look at something, I shewed toward would turn around and she would be gone. I would find her his name, in that wheeling her way around, proving she could do it on her own! ye have minis(continued next page) tered to the saints, and do minister. Hebrews 6:10. Sis. Myers and and the geography typical of mcuh of the area in which she traveled . Enjoy your new home in glory land.. Well done, thou good and faithful servant enter into the joys of the Lord. Rest from your labor, your crown is won, you fought a good fight! -Donita Wiggins Sis. Myers doing what she loved to do the best, sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ Page 5 Those were fun times for both of us. Because of her steadily declining health, She loved to come to our house and visit. we often wondered why the Lord was She would stay as many days at a time keeping her here when it seemed life was as she could and always told me how really over for her. But, little did we know, grateful she was for us. She said she had her work was not done! One of her physino family so we were her family. She cal therapists, Kim, told me a story one was Mama Gail to us. We heard it so much we could all blessing from Mama Gail. She would pray sing along in Spanish with her! Even till for them before they started their daily the end of her life, she never missed a routine. But, this particular morning was lick! She spent the holidays with us, when different. She prayed for her then patted we were home. She especially loved her stomach and said, Its coming! Just Christmas time. Sitting for hours and hold on its coming! She had a great thought and did amazingly well! In December, 2007, she suffered a stroke. She had two hemorrhages on the brain and the doctors said she would not live through the day. But, in four days she was out of intensive care singing Christmas songs to the doctor. He could not believe it. He said this was totally impossible! She had to be taken to a nursing home for rehabilitation. She was such an inspiration to the people who cared for her. I cant tell you how many nurses and residents alike read her book and was so inspired by the life she had lived. Mama Gail just a few days before her passing. Her faith in God made a lasting impression in the lives many! She would often cry and talk about how bad she wanted to go to Heaven. She talked of her mother, Bro. C.M. Butler, and other saints who had gone on and how she wanted to go meet them. On June 5, 2009, that dream became a reality. I had been called to the nursing home earlier in the week and knew her end was very near. Thursday evening and all thru the night, we never left her side. As we tried to cool her fevered brow, we talked and sang to her about Heaven. At 9:30 that Friday morning, I was singing I Wont Have To Cross Jordan Alone when she peacefully crossed over. I will always cherish the moments I spent with her. They will forever be close to my heart. She left a legacy and may the work she has done speak for her! Sis. Nancy Edenfield From Georgia... The Greek word used for church when Jesus said, upon this rock I will build my church is ekklesia which means a calling out. So we could be safe to say that the church is the collective body of Christians who have been called out of sin unto fellowship with Jesus Christ. We have the privilege of ministering to a unique part of the bride of Christ. This portion of the bride could rightfully be called the church behind the wire. It is those who are incarcerated have not been set free from their debt to society and punishment for their crimes. We have began a ministry called the Lower Lights Evangelism & Prison Ministries. With a burden that the whole counsel of God needed to be taught and preached in the Prison systems, we resigned from pastoral work in July, 2006. This ministry is dependent upon the provisions of our Lord through revivals, special services, and the support of Gods people as they feel the burden to give into this mission project. Within the prison systems we have found hearts that have never been touched by the preaching of the full gospel. Imagine a island with over 50,000 people on it. Upon this Island there are diverse cultures from all over the world. This Island is the G eorgia Department of Corrections. These are hardened criminals, or just simply good boys and girls, or men and women who made senseless decisions or got with the wrong crowd at the wrong time. These include some people that should be, and some that in reality should not be in prison. The longer we labor in this field the more we realize the need of taking truth and encouragement to the church behind the wire. Rev. Dennis L. Morgan Lower Lights Prison Ministry P.O. Moss Point, MS Trinity Pentecostal Tabernacle Fellowship Meeting, Nov. 11-14 Day Spkr ........................... Bro. Joey Hight Night Spkr ..................... Bro. Randy Webb Pastor Russell McDonald 228-990-8329 From Florida...This is Bro Jeff Raisor from Crystal Springs, Florida. My wife and I are pioneering a Holiness Church in Florida. We are now buying a Church in Crystal Springs. It is a country Church built in 1968 and has been empty for 2 years and we are buying it from a Baptist Church. The purchase price is $150,000.00 and it has 2 acres of ground with a fellowship hall and a small 1969 trailer for us to live in. We prayed earnestly over this Church and felt the leading of God to step out on faith and pioneer a Holiness Church. We sought advice from Godly men such as Bro Hisel Carpenter, Bro Chris Whiffen, Bro David Lamb and Bro Carlos Burdine on this Church and they all prayed with us for this Church. Bro Hisel Carpenter walked the grounds with us before purchasing the Church and looked over the buildings also. Bro Carpenter has been a great advisor to us in our efforts with the Church as other Holiness men have too. It is our burden for this area to win souls for God. We started on Easter Sunday Morning and now it will soon be 3 months and we are seeing the GREAT HAND OF GOD moving for us. We actually started with only 4 of us and that is including my wife and myself and now we have 16. We had a furniture store just this last week donate a big huge deep freeze to our Church. My wife and another sister is putting up vegetables and selling them to raise money for the debt of the Church. We had a business donate things as well like a fire extinguisher and many other things. We have been out knocking on doors and now we are starting to pass out tracts and many other things I have a vision for this area that God is going to help us build a Holiness Church right here. Our Church name is Calvary Pentecostal Mission and our address is P.O. Box 474 Crystal Springs, Florida 33524 and our phone # is 813-277-4095. Thank-you and God Bless you!
