welcome note
I
t has been a busy start to the year with many exciting
developments across the WorldMark South Pacific Club by
Wyndham resort portfolio. The refurbishment of your Port
Douglas resort is a significant project that has been underway
for some months now.
The Property Development team is going to great lengths to
convert the existing hotel rooms into spacious, self-contained
one and two-bedroom standard and deluxe apartments. In
line with our Wyndham Green objectives, a key focus has been
placed on implementing environmentally sound initiatives
such as energy efficient lighting and water saving devices. I am
proud to reveal more details of the hard work and dedication
that has gone into this transformation on page 16.
Equally exciting is the progress made on the enhancement
and expansion project at WorldMark South Pacific Club by
Wyndham Denarau Island in Fiji. Turn to Resort Report on page
8 for an update and new photos.

T
his is our favourite photo from our holiday to
WorldMark South Pacific Club by Wyndham
Denarau Island! We had a blast taking our
special friends that we holiday with and they
were blown away by the facilities, the hospitality
and especially the location of our room. Hubby
and I looked at all of the other resorts on
Denarau Island from the water while we were
either jet skiing, on a boat, on the banana boat
or parasailing. We happily concluded that we
had the best room on the whole island, which
you can see from the beautiful view that we had
during our stay! Thank you so much WorldMark
South Pacific Club. Fiji has become our happy
place and we cannot wait to save up and go
there again!

WINNING LETTER
W
yndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific Port Douglas is just what the
doctor ordered. The open-plan tropical themed Reception area initially
enthralled us as the staff and resident cockatoo welcomed us.
The resort was still undergoing refurbishment, but we were not
inconvenienced in any way. The gardens and surrounds were totally in keeping
with the wet tropics, with the waterway having its own resident barramundi.
One imagines Port Douglas in January to be hot, humid and very wet. We
were surprised to find that the humidity
and heat were less than we experience in
Mackay. What rain we did have, occurred as
heavy showers in the afternoon and evening.
It was wet but pleasant and did not interfere
with our activities. Apart from enjoying the
resort facilities, we explored various dining
locations and did our bit to add to our body
weight. We also journeyed to the Atherton
Tablelands and experienced the magic of the
thundering Barron Falls.
While the room did not have selfcontained facilities – and we knew that
when we booked – we understand the
refurbishment will take care of that. We
look forward to the refurbishments being
completed and are already planning ahead
to see when we might be able to return for
another very enjoyable stay.

LETTER ENTRY
I
have enjoyed all the WorldMark destinations I have visited, but
Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific Kirra Beach remains one of my
favourite resorts. Being less than two hours drive from my residence, I
usually manage to get down there a couple of times a year.
Kirra allows me to start my morning slowly; with a walk into
Coolangatta to enjoy a leisurely breakfast, and then when I am charged
and ready for the day, I head up around the headlands to Rainbow Bay,
Snapper Rocks or even up to Point Danger if the energy lasts.
When the surf is pumping, I always take a break in my walk at Snapper
Rocks to watch the surfers as they catch the waves off Rainbow Bay rocks
and ride the sweeps all the way around to Coolangatta Beach. It’s a great
way to spend some time on a sunny winter day.
One of the other things I keep my eyes open for are the passing whales.
Sometimes they can even be seen from the apartment balcony, but I have
also had some great sightings from Coolangatta Beach and up on Point
Danger as well. Always looking forward to my next visit at Wyndham
Kirra Beach!
The southern end of Snapper Rocks is one of Suzanne Short’s
favourite places to visit when holidaying at Wyndham Kirra Beach.

AN UNEXPECTED
adventure
10 AN UNE XPEC TED ADVENTURE
STACEY GRIMS UNCOVERS THE
THRILLS OF THE NEW SOUTH
WALES MID NORTH COAST.
As I travel south into Coffs Harbour, childhood memories come
flooding back to me. Building sandcastles on the golden sand
beaches, fishing off break walls and cruising around spectacular
waterways in a small dinghy.
The New South Wales Mid North Coast comprises of small
coastal towns tucked away on peninsulas and beautiful pockets of
paradise along the Pacific Highway that sit between the rainforest
and the ocean.
But there’s a side to this region that remains largely undiscovered
and one you don’t often hear people talk about. It’s something that
will take your breath away and it’s not the natural beauty this
region is widely known for. What is it? You ask. It’s pure adrenalinefuelled adventure – and it’s suitable for people of all ages.
I arrive at Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific Coffs
Harbour – Treetops, a tranquil retreat tucked away amongst the trees
on Charlesworth Bay. Situated in the Pacific Bay Resort precinct,
three kilometres from Coffs Harbour town centre, this is the perfect
location to prepare for my days of excitement ahead.
As I explore the Pacific Bay Resort grounds through bush trails
and ocean walkways at dawn, I come across timid wallabies and
an array of bird species including kookaburras and the rare black
cockatoo. I am amazed to discover that sitting within all this natural
beauty is a nine-hole golf course, three swimming pools, tennis
courts, a restaurant and even a flying trapeze school!
A RAPID RUSH
After an early pick up from the resort and a one-hour and 20-minute
drive through forest and small hinterland communities, my travel
partner and I arrive at the scenic Goolang Creek with local tour
operator Liquid Assets.
A few brief instructions later on how to operate our two-person
sports raft, we begin our white water rafting quest. The challenge is
definitely keeping the raft straight and I won’t lie, on top of doing
some very impressive yet unnecessary 360-degree turns, we seem to
hit just about every rock and bank along the way.
“Keep the raft straight when approaching the rapids,” says our
tour guide, Matt. Easier said than done! The tour takes us three
kilometres along the Goolang Creek bordered by bushland through
grade two and three rapids. Not only is this a true adventure
White water rafting is a great
way to immerse in the spectacular
scenery of the Coffs Coast.
experience, the scenery is spectacular! Visit surfrafting.com for
details.
With our first taste of adrenaline in Coffs Harbour, we are
eager for more, so we take the two-and-a-half-hour drive south to
Port Macquarie where we stay at Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia
Pacific Flynns Beach. The resort has great family facilities including
a swimming pool and a huge games room and the apartments have
recently been refurbished.
Heading out on the Hastings River and out to sea with PortJet is
our first adventure for the day. This thrilling jet boat ride takes
us along the coastal strip past Tacking Point Lighthouse and it
isn’t long before we are doing 360-degree spins, power slides and
fish tails in the custom built vessel, Wild Thing. We are also lucky
enough to spot a pod of at least 30 dolphins, which dance around
the vessel as it sits idle. Visit portjet.com.au for information.
HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO FLY?
Following an exhilarating morning on the water, we head to
Australia’s first outdoor vertical wind tunnel, Extreme Velocity. If
you’re looking for a truly unique experience, this is it!
Extreme Velocity, or ‘THOR’ as it’s also known, is located at
Port Macquarie Airport and run by brothers, Christian and Darren
Corse. This intense, adrenaline-filled experience has us hovering
mid-air in a vertical wind tunnel. What a rush! Find out more at
extremevelocity.com.au
As I drive home along the Pacific Motorway, I find myself
planning my next getaway to the New South Wales Mid North
Coast. Will I come back and enjoy a relaxing break by the beach,
explore the forests or spend more time at the many popular family
tourist attractions? Maybe I’ll explore more of the adventure
that’s on offer in this region, which I didn’t get to experience this
time round.
Main: Thrill rides on a jet boat are a unique option for taking in the Port
Macquarie sights including Tacking Point Lighthouse. Inset from top: A jet
boat ride will provide plenty of exciting spins and turns; keep your eye
out for dolphins in Port Macquarie’s waterways. Right: Feel the rush of
hovering mid-air at Extreme Velocity.

THE OPPORTUNITY
In August 2011, Wyndham Vacation Resorts
Asia Pacific acquired a property in Tropical
North Queensland, one of WorldMark
Owners’ favourite holiday destinations. In
synergy with sister company, Wyndham
1
Hotel Group, this Port Douglas resort
was added to their expanding portfolio of
properties in the South Pacific region and
re-branded Ramada Resort Port Douglas.
Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific has
already released a number of apartments to
the WorldMark South Pacific Club.
Floors and walls are stripped from a middle hotel room, preparing the space to
be converted into a modern kitchen within a two-bedroom apartment.
THE CHALLENGE
To bring the accommodation up to Club
standards, a refurbishment project of grand
proportions was set into motion to convert
194 hotel rooms into 86 hotel rooms, plus
one and two-bedroom apartments.
2
DESIGNER’S SOLUTION
The project started with a concept and
feasibility study before the design team
presented their plan to convert clusters of
hotel rooms (groups of two or three) into

wiring installed.
larger Club apartments. The structural
engineers who worked on the original hotel
construction were consulted to see if this
vision could be made into a reality. Once the
plans were certified structurally sound and
the plumbing approvals were in place, the
green light was given for the hotel rooms to
be completely gutted and transformed into
spacious, modern living spaces. To keep the
resort running efficiently during this major
refurbishment has required meticulous
planning. The property development team
and the Wyndham Port Douglas resort
management team have worked together
during every stage of the refurbishment
to ensure the Owner/guest experience
remains paramount.

To create two-bedroom apartments from
the space of three hotel rooms, some walls
had to be knocked out, floors stripped and

two-bedroom apartments feature open

GREEN ACHIEVEMENTS
BATHROOM S
It is not hard to be reminded of the importance
of protecting the planet when you visit Port

contemporary recessed basins and oversized

stylish look. Echoing the clean lines of the

the second bedroom guests to enjoy equally
superior comforts. These bathrooms have
also seen a major overhaul and encompass a

Outside of the Club rooms, work has been
completed to improve the boardwalks and the

landscaping throughout the resort.
LOUNGE ROOM S,

Out of the clusters of three hotel rooms,
the middle ones are being converted into
luxurious lounge rooms and state-of-the-art
kitchens. The amazing new kitchens boast
modern appliances and will boast brand new

Contemporary dining furniture has been
selected along with flat screen televisions to
further enhance living spaces with premium
selected fabrics and new chestnut carpets.

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN
AN OWNER EDUCATION SESSION
AND AN OWNER UPDATE
After speaking with some Owners, I have
noticed there can be some confusion
between an Owner Education Session and
an Owner Update, and I wanted to clarify
this because they are two different things.
Owner Updates are one-on-one
sessions you will be invited to if you
are visiting a WorldMark resort. These
sessions are tailored for discussing your
personal Ownership needs. In this one-onone session, you will receive updates on
the latest information in your Club, as well
as a review of your Ownership to ensure
you have the right amount of Vacation
Credits for your holiday needs.
Owner Education sessions are a free
information service you have access
to and are not a sales presentation.
These are group sessions held with other
Owners. They are geared to help you
understand your Ownership and are
full of useful tips to get you using your
Ownership more often. These sessions
are constantly updated with changing
information from your Club, so whether
you have been before or you are a firsttimer, we hope to see you at one of these
sessions soon!

inter. A word so often associated with snow. A season
so magically beautiful it takes your breath away. A
chance to slow down and appreciate the calm of a landscape
covered in white. Welcome to winter in New Zealand’s
majestic South Island.
A holiday in winter is best experienced on the slopes and
Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia Pacific Wanaka places you
close to four ski fields that serve up a whole lot of fun! From
the soaring peaks of Treble Cone to the world-class terrain of
Snow Park, fun family bonding at Cardrona and wide crosscountry ski expanses of Snow Farm; Wanaka is the perfect
base to enjoy every kind of skiing.
There’s something about snow that brings out the little
kid in everyone – going tobogganing, building a snowman
and laying in the snow to carve the perfect snow angel. Of
course, it just wouldn’t be the same if you weren’t tempted
to throw a snowball and shout, “Snow fight!”
Whether you are a skiing aficionado or a novice on the
bunny slope, nothing compares to the unimaginable thrill of
learning to ski. With arms extended forward and knees bent,
your heart races. Your eyes are wide open in wonderment
(or sheer terror) as you plough madly downhill in a state of
giddy, dazed euphoria.
Trying desperately to master the fundamental skill of
balancing, you fall down. A lot. But slowly and surely you
build your confidence and perfect your technique. After a
day of thrills and spills, you retreat to the cosy surrounds of
Wyndham Wanaka to warm up, unwind and recall the day’s
adventures.
A holiday in the snow will be something you will never
forget and Wanaka – with its winning mix of après ski nightlife,
spectacular scenery and activities – is winter at its best.

oby’s Restaurant & Bar lies in a picture perfect corner
in Western Australia’s South West, along the waters of
Geographe Bay and right in the midst of Margaret River’s
burgeoning food and wine region.
Its coastal position promises an abundance of topnotch seafood including oysters, prawns, octopus and a
variety of fish. Plus, the quality of the produce available
in the local area means there is never a shortage of
seasonal goods that are packed with flavour and absolute
freshness. It’s this respect for using quality ingredients
that brings out sensational flavours and creates magic on
the plate.
The well-crafted menu presents a fresh take on
wholesome cuisine with butternut pumpkin, local
asparagus, crisp greens, smoked meats and Margaret
River venison being used.

32 TA STES OF WORLDM ARK
With an impressive career spanning 32
years and extensive experience working at
many destinations across the world, it’s easy
to see that new executive chef, Colin Lyttle,
brings a distinctive flair to Toby’s kitchen.
His vast gastronomic expertise extends to
Mediterranean, Greek and Middle Eastern cuisine, while a
24-year stint in South Africa honed his creative talent.
It was in South Africa that Colin established a hugely
successful Greek restaurant. Now he’s made the big leap
down under, where Colin has been at the helm of Toby’s
Restaurant & Bar for the past seven months. And he has big
plans for the menu…
Pacific Dunsborough, Toby’s Restaurant knows good taste. The desserts
are devilishly good and breakfast caters for refreshing and hearty meals.
So what exactly is it that sets Toby’s apart from other restaurants?
Executive chef, Colin Lyttle says, “We pride ourselves on offering food
that is of a consistently high level.” Colin maintains this excellence by
providing ongoing training for all chefs and encourages his team to bring
their ideas to the menu. “I want to ensure my team are capable of taking
the menu to the next level,” he said.
Pair this with an intimate yet relaxed atmosphere and a wine list
brimming with Margaret River’s finest and you’ve got a winning
combination. So treat your tastebuds to a culinary feast at Toby’s
Restaurant & Bar. Open seven days for breakfast and from Tuesday to
Sunday for dinner.

FRIENDS FIRST
COMPETITION WINNER
ANNOUNCED
Congratulations to WorldMark South
Pacific Club by Wyndham Owners,
Tapas and Anukampa Padhi, on winning
the major prize of the Friends First Win
a Million by Wyndham competition.
The Sydney couple were thrilled to win $7,000 cash and a three-night
holiday on the Gold Coast staying at Wyndham Vacation Resorts Asia
Pacific Kirra Beach, and were given the chance to win $1 million.
The competition was part of Friends First’s Refer a Friend campaign
available to all Owners who referred their friends to the Club. The
competition was a game of chance that saw Mr and Mrs Padhi choose
one out of 200 bags for their chance to win.
“We have had such a wonderful time on the Gold Coast with the
family and although we did not win the million, we are still very
lucky to have won the holiday and the $7,000 and feel fortunate to be
WorldMark Owners,” Mr Padhi said.
Since joining WorldMark South Pacific Club in July 2008, Mr and
Mrs Padhi have shared the secret of their incredible holiday lifestyle –
thanks to WorldMark Vacation Ownership – by referring 15 friends to
the Friends First by Wyndham program, which earned them automatic
entry into the competition.
