Going in summer meant that it was daylight until about 10pm at night, so we could easily visit places during the day and there was still plenty of daylight to swim in the pool in the evening. The outdoor BBQ meant the kids just had to pop out of the pool to have dinner. Passing through no less than seven UNESCO-listed World Heritage areas including more than 15 waterfalls, the aptly-named stretch is like something straight from the pages of a fairytale. The route takes you through the picturesque Bellinger Valley and onto the Dorrigo Plateau. Along the way you will be treated to a kaleidoscopic assortment of landscapes, from tropical rainforests dense with prehistoric ferns, to dry, open gullies and farmlands peppered with doe-eyed cows; and of course a magical selection of waterfalls. With so many to choose from, deciding Apsley Falls are two waterfalls on the Apsley River and the first in a series of dramatic drops in a deep gorge that make up part of the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. The best view of the falls is accessible by foot via a 52-metre steel stairway that leads to an observation deck. According to Aboriginal legend, the Rainbow Winding 200 kilometres between Coffs Harbour and Armidale, Waterfall Way is renowned as one of the most scenic drives in Australia. which ones to visit can be a daunting task especially if you’re only in the area for Serpent created the gorge at Apsley in the Dreamtime. For drive-to destinations a little further afield, Govetts Leap in the Blue Mountains and Morton National Park in the greater Shoalhaven region boast some of the most inspiring waterfalls in New South Wales. The Blue Mountains region is rich in artistic and cultural history, dating back thousands of years to the original Aboriginal occupants. The landscape is scattered with evidence of their spiritual expression in the form of dreaming sites and rock art. When you get there, you can see what was so stimulating about the scenery!
