803 Architect Hi-Lo Table
COLLECTION
44 Diameter 19H Height adjusts from 19" to 29"
Dunhill Finish shown.
Classical architectural forms, like columns, were used often in George
Washington’s designs for Mount Vernon. The fluted column base
on this round dining table echoes the fluted pilasters that frame the
Palladian doorways in the west parlor, which Washington at one time
considered “the best place in my House.” The wood paneling and
carved details, painted a striking Prussian blue, created a beautiful
and comfortable space for Washington and his family to receive guests,
read, and play games.
Classical architectural forms, like fluted columns and pilasters, characterize the classic
design elements featured in George Washington’s vision for Mount Vernon…

When George Washington began acquiring furnishings for his home as a young man, the sofa form was just beginning to arrive in the
colonies. The expense of elaborate and luxurious upholstery meant sofas were only available to the wealthy, thus making them to a status
symbol for the elite.

This sofa is a modern interpretation of a “camel back” sofa, one of the most expensive furniture forms in the eighteenth-century, named

other covered in blue silk damask and used in the west parlor, both at Mount Vernon.
