FRIENDS MAKING A
DIFFERENCE
The Friends Initiative to facilitate furniture
donations in conjunction with Help of
Southern Nevada is making a difference!
Over 30 families have already been
housed through this program since
mid-December. Our efforts continue,
including the collection of donated
furniture and household items that are
required to make the housing fully
functional for each family. For more
details or to discuss household goods or
furniture donations, contact: Donna
Coleman, phone number 702-450-7450
or email donnalcoleman@aol.com
PROGRAM SUMMARY: FRIENDS is assisting
Help of Southern Nevada ("HELP") by finding
furniture donations for needful families. Through
this program, the assisted families are required to
pay 30% of the rent and HELP will pay 70%. The
families are being housed in Henderson and the
housing must be functionally furnished to qualify.
Included among the 30 families already housed
through this program are current and prior dining
guests of Friends.

Friends takes a walk and
meets some great neighbors
like Paul Christiance at Coo
Coo's Gourmet Coffee Café.
Paul Christiance is the owner and operator of
Coo Coo's Gourmet Coffee Café, 19 West Pacific
Ave in Henderson. Paul was born in
Philadelphia and came to Nevada in 1990. He is
married and enjoys traveling when he is not
working. Due to his wife's roots, he has been to
China and Thailand several times.

The name Coo Coo's came from the original Coo
Coo's Nest Beauty Salon. Besides doing hair the
owner sold coffee and smoothies. When Paul
took over the café 15 years ago, there was a
bookstore next door. Recently, when the
bookstore closed, Paul took over that space and
expanded his business. He now employs 8
people, and business is booming. Paul is most
proud of his very loyal customers, who frequent
Coo Coo's regularly. Paul selected Henderson
due to its small town ambience. Prior to being an
owner, Paul got his sandwich shop experience
from when he worked for Dagwood's and Chatter
Box.
Paul boasts a big catering business. Available
also is online ordering at CooCooscafe.com and
delivery service (702 568-5069). Breakfast is

served at 6am Monday thru Friday and at 6:30 on
Saturdays. Coo Coo's serves a Sunrise melt that
comes highly recommended. For lunch,
sandwiches and wraps are wonderful. Just a
note: I order a wrap with turkey, ham and
American cheese; it drives me Coo Coo because
it is so big and sooooo yummy. It comes with a
side and a cookie. Don't forget to get a smoothie
or even the famous Funky Monkey Frappe.
Friends In The Desert Foundation, Inc. would like
to congratulate Paul on his 15 years in
Henderson and thank him for being our neighbor.
