A VISION FOR EXPANDING THE MISSIONOF DEERFOOT LODGE
A VISION FOR EXPANDING THE MISSION OF DEERFOOT LODGE BLUE CAMPAIGN SINCE IT BEGAN IN 1930... Deerfoot’s history has been about God’s faithfulness in expanding one man’s vision to build godly men. Today, men all over the world see Deerfoot as a significant influence. At DL they learned to be strong leaders, responsible citizens, and men of faith and character. Though the ministry thrives, we’ve been facing a capacity challenge for more than a decade. The race for bunks leaves many would-be campers (even returning campers) on wait lists. In a world where many boys fail to launch, boys and young men need a place like Deerfoot more than ever. It’s time for Deerfoot to step out in faith, to extend our timeless mission to reach more boys and men. We need more godly men to be beacons of light and hope in their workplaces, communities, churches, families, and marriages. A new era is dawning at Deerfoot. God is in it. There’s a role for you, too. THE SITE THE VISION We want to expand our capacity for summer campers and to build godly men of all ages all year round. And God has provided an opportunity that would allow us to do this! The site is called Trout Lake and is located near Cashiers, NC. It is a 340-acre wilderness property in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina with a private lake. Through gifts and pledges from people who believe in this ministry, we were able to acquire Trout Lake property without any long-term debt. Praise the Lord! Thus began the Vision for Deerfoot Lodge Blue Ridge, a new Deerfoot location that would replicate the model of ministry in which the Lord has worked powerfully over the years. Here are some more details about the Trout Lake property. EXISTING STRUCTURES • A ccessible for the ~30% of current Deerfoot campers who live in Maryland and south. • P roximity to areas such as Atlanta, Charlotte, Greenville, and Knoxville. • Q uiet and isolated wilderness setting. • Includes a private 20 acre lake. POTENTIAL BUILDING AREAS FIELD WETLAND EXISTING ROAD POWER LINE TROUT LAKE PROPERTY • H igh altitude for cooler summer days. • S ufficient flat areas for fields and common facilities. • M ixed hardwood and pine forests, and mountain scenery with long range views. • O utstanding hiking opportunities locally and in the region. DEERFOOT BLUE CAMPAIGN The Deerfoot Blue Campaign goal is $15 million dollars. This is a Godsized goal! And we’ve already seen Him move in powerful ways. The first phase of this is already complete through gifts and pledges totalling $5.6 million dollars from lead donors for the purchase of the Trout Lake Property. Phase 2 of the campaign is to raise the remaining $9.4M needed to build the facility and establish the camp. Just as with phase 1, we intend to build the camp without incurring long term debt. This, of course, requires the support of the whole Deerfoot community. Now is the time for Deerfoot to do more. We want the Deerfoot experience to be available for the boys and young men who seek the opportunity. Deerfoot Blue Ridge makes long-term growth possible. This opportunity is daunting, but so exciting. As we always have, we trust God for His provision for His work here at Deerfoot. This is God’s place, and we are committed to following Him in bold obedience. We look forward to how He will grow us as we tackle this challenge together. But most importantly, they have been exposed to true Christ-centered community.
