All rights reserved. Setting: This play takes place in a classroom. 7 15 24 28 35 40 48 Narrator 1: Once upon a time there was a girl named Sadie. She was in first grade. Sadie loved to go to school. Narrator 2: She loved being with her friends in class. She loved her teacher. Narrator 1: Most of all, Sadie loved talking with the school nurse. 66 Narrator 2: Sadie would always find a reason to visit the nurse’s office. Today was another one of those days. Sadie raised her hand in class. 74 Teacher: Yes, Sadie. What is it? 79 Sadie: Teacher, I feel sick. I have to go see the nurse. 50 57 89 1 90 98 Narrator 1: It was a lie, but the teacher believed Sadie. 107 Teacher: Oh, dear! Well, you can’t go alone. Who wants to go with Sadie to the nurse’s office? 116 Milo: Not me! 118 Max: I will! I will! 122 Teacher: Okay, Max. Take the hall pass. You can go with Sadie to the nurse’s office. 99 130 144 Narrator 1: Sadie and Max walked down the hall. Sadie moaned and groaned. 148 Sadie: Aww! Ooh! 150 156 Narrator 2: They walked down the stairs. Sadie moaned some more. 159 Sadie: Ooh! Aww! 161 Max: Are you sure you can make it? 168 174 Narrator 1: Sadie nodded. She held her stomach. She moaned some more. 178 Sadie: Aww! Ooh! 180 Narrator 2: Max grew very worried. He raced ahead to the nurse’s office. 137 186 2 191 197 204 Max: Come quick! It’s Sadie. She’s sick! Narrator 1: The nurse ran from her office. She found Sadie about to fall in the hall. Sadie: Oh! I have to lie down. Nurse: Oh, dear! Oh, my! Come. Hold onto me. Narrator 2: The nurse made Sadie lie down. She checked to see if Sadie had a fever. Nurse: You do not have a fever. What could be the matter? Sadie: Oh, but I feel so sick. I have to rest. Nurse: Just rest, then. Stay here. Take a nap. I will let your parents know that you are here. Max, you can go back to class. Max: Okay. Bye, Sadie. I hope you feel better. Narrator 1: The nurse called Sadie’s mother. 3 Nurse: I just wanted you to know that Sadie is in my office. She is not feeling well. Mother: What happened? What’s the matter? Nurse: Well, I can’t seem to find anything wrong. She does not have a temperature. Though she says she’s not feeling well. She is resting now. Mother: If she does not feel better soon, please call me. I will come and take her home. Nurse: Don’t worry. I think she will be fine after a nap. Narrator 2: Sadie smiled to herself. She was not sick at all. She just wanted to visit the nurse. After about an hour, Sadie got up. She stretched. Nurse: Here, have some juice, dear. Narrator 1: Sadie drank her juice. She chatted away with the nurse. Narrator 2: That’s just what Sadie loved. At the nurse’s office she got a special treat to eat. She got lots of rest. She got to talk and talk with the nurse. She had fun! Nurse: Are you feeling better now, dear? Sadie: I’m feeling much better! 4 Nurse: Then I will take you back to your class. Narrator 1: The nurse walked Sadie back to her classroom. Everyone had questions. Milo: Sadie, you’re back! What was wrong? Max: Are you feeling better? Teacher: How is she, Nurse? Nurse: She’s as good as new! Narrator 2: It became a habit for Sadie. Day after day, she would pretend to be sick. Then she would go to the nurse’s office. Narrator 1: One day, Sadie really did feel sick! She felt hot. She felt weak. Her head hurt. Sadie: Teacher, I feel sick! Max: I’ll take her to the nurse. 5 Teacher: No, thank you, Max. Sadie, you do this every day! The nurse never finds anything wrong! You have to stay and do your work! Sadie: I really am sick! Milo: You are lying! Sadie: No, I’m not! I am sick! I have to go to the nurse! Narrator 2: Then, the teacher felt Sadie’s forehead. It was very hot! She sent Sadie to the nurse right away. Narrator 1: Sadie learned a good lesson. Sadie: I will never say that I am sick when I am not. That way, when I need help, people will believe me. Narrator 2: Sadie kept her word from that day on. She did not lie about being sick again. Still, she did visit the nurse sometimes, just to talk. 6
