Cabrini Catholic Church and The Yucaipa Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter - day Saints at St. Frances Cabrini Church 12687 California St. • Yucaipa, Ca. 92399 on Sunday • Dec. 13th • Program from 6:30PM - 8:30 PM Reception to follow Please bring non-perishable food to support ICS Stephen Ministry This Sunday we celebrate the 2nd Sunday of Advent, the second of 4 Sundays before Christmas, a time of looking forward and preparing for the birth of Jesus, our Lord. “When the Church celebrates the liturgy of Advent each year, she makes present the ancient expectancy of the Messiah, for by sharing in the long preparation for our Savior’s first coming, the faithful renew their ardent desire for his second coming.” Catechism of the Catholic Church p. 132,#524. “Jesus was born in a humble stable, into a poor family. Simple shepherds were the first witnesses to the event. In this poverty heaven’s glory was made manifest. The Church never tires of singing the glory of this night: The Virgin today brings into the world the eternal, And the earth offers a cave to the Inaccessible. The angels and shepherds praise him And the magi advance with the star, For You are born for us, Little Child, God eternal! CCC p.132 #525 “to become a child in relation to God is the condition for entering the kingdom. (Matthew 18:3-4) For this we must humble ourselves and become little. Even more: to become “children of God” we must be “born from above” or “born of God.” Only when Christ is formed in us will the mystery of Christmas be fulfilled in us.” (Galations 4:19). (ccc p. 133 #526) “We the Stephen Ministry sincerely care about you!! Throw off strife, he tells us, and put on joy. Like a favorite old sweatshirt, joy fits, and how warm it keeps us, even when the winds blow cold. Paul knows of this joy as he pens his letter to the Philippians, praying that they may grow in their ability to discern what is righteous and good. And Luke speaks to us of John, who was foretold by Isaiah and who sings a similar song-"Prepare the way of the Lord," for salvation is at hand. A man ahead of his time, Baruch spent his days joyfully awaiting a distant glory. On this Second Sunday of Advent, Paul and John know that this glory is upon us. Let them send for the priests of the Church, and let the priests pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will save the sick persons, and the Lord will raise them up; and if they have committed any sins, their sins will be forgiven them’” This administration of the sacrament of the sick is offered to those Catholics who are experiencing physical ailments of a serious nature: those who will be undergoing surgery for serious reasons, the elderly who have become notably weakened even though no serious illness is present, those who are battling serious illnesses and have not been anointed recently, and children who have reached the age of reason and are seriously ill. The community is called to offer prayers and support to those in need of our love and care. RECEPTION FOLLOWING THE MASS: A reception immediately follows the Mass and everyone at the Mass is invited to attend. If you plan to attend the reception, please contact the office at 909-797-2533 to sign-up so that we can reserve a place for you at the reception.
