Today is the first Sunday of Advent. Advent is a time of preparation for us, a
time to prepare for the coming of Christ at Christmas. (The word “Advent”
comes from the Latin word adventus, which means “coming.”) Although
Advent refers to Christ’s birth at Christmas, it also refers to the coming of
Christ through the Sacrament of Holy Communion. Finally, it reminds us of
the need to prepare for His Second Coming.
Everything we do during this holy period should be aimed at preparing
our minds and hearts for Christ’s arrival. Our readings today, from our
First Reading in which the prophet Jeremiah predicts the coming of Christ
(“The days are coming, says the Lord, when I will fulfill the promise.”) to
our Gospel from Luke (“And then they will see the Son of Man coming in
a cloud with power and great glory.”) anticipate Christ’s arrival, both as an
infant and in His return.
As individuals and families and households we need to develop or continue
Advent traditions. Whether it is setting time aside for special prayer or
carefully filling a manger or lighting an Advent wreath or singing Christmas
carols or reading Christmas poems and stories, we need to do some different things and do them consistently throughout Advent. This will help us
have the both the right focus and the right attitude.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTION FOR THE
WEEK OF NOVEMBER 29 /
REFLEXIÓN DE LA CORRESPONSABILIDAD
PARA LA SEMANA DEL 29 DE NOVIEMBRE
our lady of fatima parish

Dear Parishioners and Friends of Our Lady of Fatima
Queridos parroquianos y amigos de Nuestra Señora de Fátima,
I always love the beginning of Advent. The weather changes a bit; we
begin to wear purple at Mass; we have the Advent Candle and hymns
of expectation and hope. We begin to reflect on the Holy Family and
their struggles before the birth of Jesus. We hear the prophecies from
the Old Testament and see how they all unfolded. The nights grow
longer and the skies change. Venus is normally seen near the moon
during this month in the East. In the big picture the planets and moon
and sun are relatively the same as 2000 years ago, but here on earth we
are always changing. Our desire is to change for the good. During this
month of Advent try to carve out some time to reflect on the changes
in your life. Where were you a year ago or 10 years or 40 years ago?
How has God been with you during your life? What life changing
events have occurred during your lifetime? Who are you today? I’m
sure Mary & Joseph were pondering similar things under the same
sky 2000 years ago as they were walking to Bethlehem.
Thursday Night Confessions at 7pm: December 3 & 10 (at Church)
God bless you all!
Fr. Jim
Comenzamos a
¿Quien eres hoy? Estoy seguro de que
María y José estaban reflexionando cosas similares bajo el mismo cielo
hace 2000 años cuando iban caminando a Belén.

NOVEMBER 29, 2015 – FIRST SUNDAY OF ADVENT
Do not be trapped by the anxieties of daily life. Easier said than done.
Not only are we trapped by our personal anxieties but we are caught up
in the anxieties and trials of our world. We cannot escape them. In these
times, we can feel beaten down and abandoned. The world no longer
makes sense. But these trials will not have the last word. Jesus suffered
every humiliation on behalf of humanity and triumphed. He lifted us
to our feet. It is because of this, that we can stand erect and help others
to their feet as well. We stand and lift up our souls as the psalmist sings
today.
◆◆ How do you find meaning when overcome by anxiety?
◆◆ When has God helped you to your feet? When have you helped
another to stand in the midst of a personal trial?
Take a moment to revisit this Sunday’s readings [Jer 33:14-16; Thes 3:124:2; Lk 21:25-28, 34-36] http://usccb.org/bible/readings/112915.cfm
podemos sentirnos golpeados y abandonados. El mundo ya no tiene
sentido.
14-16; Tes 3: 12-4: 2; Lc 21, 25-28, 34-36] http://usccb.org/bible/readings/112915.cfm

Emmanuel, A Christmas
Concert Experience with Tajči
DECEMBER 13, 6:30PM — 8:30PM /
MCGOWAN HALL
A Story of Longing to Believe… In the True
Meaning of Christmas. Told through stunningly
beautiful music. Tajči (pronounced Tai chi)
was a teenage superstar at the age of 19. Tajči
became a superstar in Central Europe when she electrified an international TV
audience, estimated at over a billion people, in the Eurovision Song Contest.
Her life became a blur of concerts, video shoots, personal appearances and
commercial tie-ins— an unending crush of photographers, adoring fans and
bodyguards. Ironically the “dream come true” also brought feelings of isolation, loneliness and emptiness.
Shocking her country and peers, Tajči left it all— stardom, glamor, fame,
friends, and family to come to the United States, alone and unknown, at age
21. Through her growing Catholic faith and in the freedom it brought her, Tajči
found the inspiration to compose music and sing about her new experiences.
“Emmanuel, A Christmas Concert Experience” comes out of her new found
faith. Tickets available at olf.ticketleap.com or in the parish office. “I have seen
her twice in concert and was deeply moved both times. Her story and music
are inspiring.” Fr. Jim Ries
