Barberian Wine Club.. Boeger Winery 2011 was another cool year following a cool 2010 vintage. If you enjoyed the 2010 release, you will find the 2011 similar in style, but with even more color and intensity. We followed similar winemaking protocols with a seven day cold soak for the must to extract as much flavor and color as possible, followed by a slow fermentation to impart even more finesse. The wine was briefly held in stainless tanks to settle out and partially clarify, and then placed into about 20% new French oak barrels and the balance in more neutral French oak barrels so as to not over-oak the wine. Prior to bottling, all barrels were blended together and then bottled without fining or filtration to maintain all the fruit aromatics and delicacy that is so characteristic of a fine Pinot. The grapes for this Pinot, as before, came from our cool, high elevation vineyards--Peek and Pinot Grande --- which is so important for developing the color, flavor and delicacy of the Pinot grape. As we did on the prior vintage, we employed the talents of an old friend and wine consultant, Hugh Chapplle, to guide our efforts and ensure a consistency and uniformity to the wine. Hugh is a specialist in making fine Pinot noir from the Russian River of Sonoma and has worked with many prestigious wineries in the region. From harvest to bottling, the wine was carefully monitored and analyzed at every step in the process. The other thing new about this vintage is the new label design developed by Lexi Boeger, to distinguish this wine from our standard varietals and to establish a separate identity for our Pinot Grande vineyard. We think the new label is distinctive, attractive, yet subtle. As all good Pinots should be. 2011 Pinot Grande Reserve The Pinot Noir is made from grapes grown in our highest elevation vineyards in El Dorado appellation. Pinot Grande and Peek vineyards in Camino yield only about two tons per acre, which results in very intensely colored and flavored grapes. Those attributes are reflected in this Robust wine. I’d like to introduce you to the newest branch of our family tree, my beautiful daughter Parker. She was born on January 6th and is the sweetest little thing. I am fortunate to work for such an amazing family who, for the second time, has allowed me to bring my baby to work with me. For those of you who have been in the wine club for some time now will remember when I had my daughter, Bennett and brought her to all of the winery activities. She is now seven years old and is the best big sis in the world. I am back to work so please stop in and say “hi”. Sincerely, Tara Boeger Winery 1709 Carson Road Placerville, California 95667 530/622-8094 or 800/655-2634 www.boegerwinery.com
