301 I St SW, Quincy WA, 98848 (509) 787-4491 www.qfmc.org Sunday School: 9:15am Worship Service: 10:30am January 30, 2015 Passionately following Jesus Christ in Word • Worship • Service • Community • Prayer Jesus Went to Church By Pastor Morgan “Jesus went throughout Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people.” Matthew 4:23 Sometimes I forget that Jesus went to church. I forget that He not only spent time with people outside the church, but that He also sought times of worship inside. He went there to teach and preach. He went there to worship. I wonder though what His experiences at church were like? Was He able to engage God? Was He able to freely worship? Or were there times when church frustrated Him? I think these are really important questions we need to wrestle with today. We know from scripture that the church during the time of Jesus was not perfect – much like today. Yet, we find that Jesus still went. It could be argued that Jesus would have been able to accomplish more outside of the church than in. Masses of people gathered around Jesus each time He went out into the world. Jesus did more healing, and forgave more sins, outside of the church. Yet, we find that Jesus still went. Jesus went to church because the church matters to Him. He loves the church. He even gave His life for the church (Eph 5:25b-27). It is because of this that the church also needs to matter to us. We need to love and support the church in the same ways Jesus did. In a day when people are quick to criticize and complain about how the church has disappointed them, it may be time for us to see the church as the bride of Christ and love her. My hope is that even though our church is not perfect, Jesus would come and find us striving to love His bride to the best of our abilities.
