Schultz President/Superintendent, Mt. San Jacinto College The 2007-08 academic year marked an exciting time for Mt. San Jacinto College and for me. We continued our commitment to providing quality education to the students of the growing Southwest Riverside County by opening new facilities and expanding programs, and I was honored that the MSJC Board of Trustees in April 2008 selected me to serve as the college’s president. ROGER SCHULTZ As a member of MSJC’s management team for more than seven years and as the incoming president, I would like to thank you for supporting the college and its students through your generous donations to the MSJC Foundation. Your donations enabled the Foundation this year to award more than $65,000 in scholarships and to raise $150,000 toward the cost of a marquee for our Menifee Valley campus. Through its own sound fiscal management, the college was also able to open a number of facilities. In January 2008, MSJC opened a 35,000-square-foot Business & Technology Center on the Menifee Valley campus. The San Gorgonio Pass Service Center opened in March 2008. The facility, located north of Interstate 10 in Banning, provides registration, financial aid, counseling and other services. The 28,000-square-foot Temecula Education Complex, west of Interstate 15, opened to students in April 2008. Students can enroll, receive financial aid, counseling and other services and attend classes in the complex. Before the year ends, we will break ground on a new two-story humanities classroom building on the Menifee Valley campus. These new facilities have allowed us to expand services and education programs so we can continue to prepare students to jump into careers or transfer to four-year universities. The excitement that our accomplishments in 2007-08 generated will carry into the future as MSJC continues its commitment to serving the district by providing access to quality higher education. I look forward to working with you and guiding the college to meet that commitment. Stay tuned for naming opportunities at the future humanities classroom building on the Menifee Valley Campus. Members of the President’s Club are important to the support of the MSJC Foundation. Members are recognized in the beautiful rose garden in front of the administration building on the San Jacinto campus, at our annual dinner and each fall at a Shakespeare performance at the Ramona Bowl in Hemet. Annual membership levels range from $300 to $5,000. For more information, go to www.msjc.edu/foundation or call 951-487-3171. Did you know … that MSJC receives only 60 percent of its funds from the state of California? The rest comes from generous individuals, business and corporations and grants from foundations and other groups. The MSJC Foundation is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation established in 1983. Since it was formed, the Foundation has awarded more than $1,000,000 in scholarships to students. The Foundation continues to solicit support from donors for MSJC scholarships, programs, services, and capital projects. The President’s Club, the Alumni & Friends Association and the Legacy Society are among the ways you can help support MSJC. To learn more, go to www.msjc.edu/foundation or call 951-487-3171. The MSJC Foundation awarded $65,674 in scholarships to 71 deserving students on May 7, 2008 during the MSJC Scholarship Awards Breakfast. The event was held at the new Temecula Education Complex. Scholarship money was generated by the interest received on endowed funds from generous donors who included MSJC in their planned giving. In addition, more than $250,000 were received from service clubs and groups, which designate their own choice of student recipients. Our heartfelt thanks to our Legacy Society members who have included us in their estate planning. The Legacy Society recognizes those farsighted individuals who, during their lifetimes, include the College in their estate plans. There are a variety of ways in which to make an estate gift. A bequest to MSJC Foundation can be simply made through a will or family trust. Estate gifts can also be made using a new or no longer needed insurance policy, or from assets held in pension funds. Several gift arrangements can be structured to provide income to donors or a loved one. These enable individuals to make a gift to MSJC Foundation, enjoy several tax planning and tax saving benefits, and receive or provide an annual income for life. Income gift arrangements can be structured to provide fixed or variable income to one person or several. Ultimately, the gift will benefit worthy students or the College. “I am extremely grateful to MSJC Foundation for the Becky Elam & Heffner Memorial Scholarships. This money will be especially helpful since I’ll be attending Cal State San Marcos after I finish my general education at MSJC.” Sincerely, MSJC Student Kayla Alves CSEA Chapter 538 Joseph & Lorraine Culton Jo Daugherty Kathy & Frank Davis Pamela & Robert Deegan Kristine & Steven DiMemmo Rhonda & Jim Dixon Kathy Donnell Gary Douglas & Janice Mc Alister Kerry Douglass Downey Savings Sterling Dutton Kim & Wayne Eastman Eastman Kodak Company Scott Elardo James Fredericks William & Gretchen Fritz Scott & Ursula Garrett Gene & Suzette Gibba Valerie Gibson Lilie Golden Mel & Dottie Goldfarb Debbie Grace Grace of Temecula Valley Donna & Wayne Greene Kristen & Pat Grimes Steven & Susan Guarino Martha Hall Walter & Doris Harvey Charles Hawkins Carolyn & George Henry Russ Hoxie Pauline Hufford Charles Hunt Inland Group Edward Jacobson Pat James-Hanz & Keith Hanz Nizam & Marina Kazi Richard & Jeanne Kelley Chris Klein Dick Kokes Joseph & Suzzanne Kozma Camille & Jerry Kraft Catherine & Robert Lane Stuart H. & Galann Lease Catherine Longe-Stewart & Don Stewart Bob & Patricia Lopez Bill & Phyllis Marchese Jim & Tisha Marsh Ryan and Amy Martinez Roy & Debbie Mason Ed McDaniel Mike & Nancy McIntyre Mathew & Vicki McWane Don & Claudia Meek Miller-Jones Mortuary Jerry Mendleson Alice & Leroy Miranda Becky Mitchell Grover & Patti Moore Debbie & Gary Morgan Maynard & Ruth Morvay Rosalie Moyer Lesia & Edward Navarro Luis Negron Ruth Newby Windy Norris Nursing Completion Program Peter Odencrans & Diane Mitchell Shirl Papaian Victor Parts Joan Marie & Bob Patsky Greg Persall Roland Picotte Greg & Karen Prudhomme Joanna Quejada Ken Reed Nier Reeves John & Mary Reid Riverside Community Hospital Robert & Lois Roark Sandra Robinson Bob & Addie Rockwell Anita Rodriguez-Fitch Rotary Club of Temecula Richard & Katrina Rowley Anthony Ryz & Elizabeth Herman Gwen Schlange Edie Schmoll Roger & Laurie Schultz Glenn & Louise Scriven Sierra Dawn Estates HOA Rick & Teri Sisco Roy & Joyce Skinner Adrian & Valerie Smith Dottie Smith Tatiana & Bernard Somers Southern California Edison Barbara Springer Patrick Springer Dena Stalford Gary Swanson Alex & Linda Szenasi Chris & Rebecca Teague Phillip Turner Dr. Jon & Mrs. Joy Tyler U S Bowling Congress SMART Program Union Bank of California Lorenza Urquiza Kathy Valcarcel Lori VanArsdale Anthony Vasek Ventura Youth Correctional Foundation Vidal's Marketing Weaver Popcorn Foundation, Inc.
