Ravi Automobile Service by ATLANTA ENERGY 2 Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Mumbai A NOTE ON SOLAR POWER PLANT AT RAVI AUTOMOBILE SERVICES – CHEMBUR: Mumbai City’s First Solar Powered Retail Outlet: The need for Solarisation cannot be overemphasized. Major part of our country is energy deficient and this affects all the citizens of our country. Petrol Pumps are no exception. In fact the entire operations, economics and viability suffer due to Power outages. Customers are left high and dry. Dealers have been using DG Sets to cater to customers, which lead to Diesel consumption, additional investment, expenditures and continuous maintenance issues, besides adding to noise and air pollution. But why a Solar System is needed in Mumbai, which does not have Power outages? Citizen of Mumbai have to pay exorbitant cost for uninterrupted electric supply (Rs.16/- per Commercial Unit) and economics of running a Retail Outlets get eroded. Substantial Power is required to run a Retail Outlet. This Power if saved by switching to Solar can be used elsewhere. It is estimated that the Power we are saving due to Solarisation can power 60 village houses. That would be a major social impact if many more Retail Outlets adopt Solarisation in the city of Mumbai. The costs of Solar Panels have reduced considerably and even the need for Battery Bank may not be required in a city like Mumbai, as there is a supply of continuous power. This is typically called “On Grid System”. A substantial cost reduction is achieved. 3 Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., Mumbai With Central & State Govt. promoting the use of Solar, it would not be in too distant future that the excess power will be fed back to the Grid earning the owner the benefits of Pay Back. 80% depreciation in the first year itself. Five year payback period. IndianOil too has been promoting Solar Power at their Retail Outlets with great success. But the effort needs much more thrust & motivation and may be with attractive incentives. Hopefully, Ravi Auto’s initiative of a massive 24 KW Rooftop Plant will act as a showcase project for the City, Rural and Highway Dealers across the country. The Proof of the Pudding as they say is in its eating. The estimated cost reduction on Electricity Bills would be about 3500 Units of electricity in a total consumption of 8000 units per month. That translates to saving of over Rs.50,000/- per month on an average Monthly bill of Rs.1,25,000/-.
