“Another fresh new year is here . . .
Another year to live!
To banish worry, doubt, and fear,
To love and laugh and give!
This bright new year is given me
To live each day with zest . . .
To daily grow and try to be
My highest and my best!
I have the opportunity
Once more to right some wrongs,
To pray for peace, to plant a tree,
And sing more joyful songs!”
¯ William Arthur Ward
Every year it's the same story – make goals, goals, and more goals.
And while it's great to make goals, it's even better to actually follow through
and find the power and motivation inside yourself to actually make it happen.
How you follow your dreams and focus your passion will be unique to you.
This just means that you need to find what works for you personally. It's about
trial and error;continually learning from your mistakes and moving forward.
Achieving your dreams and harnessing your passions can not only bring you
success, but it can also bring you fulfillment. And believe me, sometimes
being fulfilled is more advantageous than having a wallet full of money...
Warm Regards,
Dr. Sushant Mane
Hon. Secretary IAP Mumbai.
Wishing You All a Happy & Prosperous New Year….!!!

President’s Message
Dear Colleagues,
Our great Fraternity reached many
milestones. We all should be quite proud of
where IAP Mumbai stands today. As of this
writing, we have 650 members . We should
reach 1000 members by the end of my
tenure. I am especially happy to see the
enthusiasm of my team. One of the
wonderful things about the Fraternity is our
diversity of members, backgrounds and
lifestyles while we share a common
heritage in science and clinical activities. I
have the pleasure of organizing the 25 th
Mahapedicon and the 16 th Embicon in
November 2014. I am requesting you to
register early to avail of all the benefits.
We also set an action plan to offer a scientific treat to all our members.
We will undertake a renovation of our office and updation to connect virtually
with all branches in Maharastra.
While all of these activities sound impressive, the real joy of my
tenure will be the active participation from all our members. I am both proud
and happy to see this level of self service in our organization. Service
provides a terrific personal opportunity and life lessons for our members
while they help others. I hope all of our colleagues will keep up the great work.

Dr. Amdekar put forward the difficulties in the availability of affordable
ventilator facilities for our pediatric patients across Mumbai city & highlighted
the fact that there was an extreme acute shortage of such facilities. He proposed
that a tie-up should be made with NGOs willing to provide such ventilators on
hire for willing patients. The project also include training programmes for
doctors, nurses & other paramedics in neonatal resuscitation, critical care &
ventilation. Also, a critical care ambulance service be established for the
transport of such children especially newborn babies as majority of the deaths
occur as a result of lack of up to date transport facilities. He proposed that the
IAP Mumbai should take active interest in these activities along with the policy
makers like the state government & municipal corporation of Mumbai as this
was the urgent need of the hour. The other members of the house seconded the
idea. To this proposal, Dr. Menon added that the database containing the
information regarding all the private &Municipal, Government hospitals
providing pediatric & neonatal Intensive Care was ready and would be uploaded
on the MBIAP website soon. Dr. Samir Dalwai proposed that the name
“VentiNet” be given to the projects put forward by Dr. Amdekar& Dr. Menon
when they become functional. He also added that this project would also help us
to get data for publishing research paper on the topic of neonatal & pediatric
intensive care. This was again approved by the house. Dr.Amdekar further
added that Wadia Hospital, Mumbai is organising a MARATHON on 9th of
February 2014 to raise awareness about pediatric heart diseases, their
management amongst the general population & that Wadia hospital is starting
free cardiac surgical services for poor children with congenital heart
diseases. He proposed that this activity should be supported by Mumbai IAP as it
would increase the credibility of the entire event.
Dr. Bipin Shah also raised the issue of irrartional use of the IAP Mumabi
logo by various organisations for their CMEs or meets and that this has to be
condemned. Also, anybody wanting to use the logo should take a written
permission and would be liable to pay royalty of Rs.35,000/- to the Mumbai
IAP; along with submission of a balance sheet after the desired event. This was
also agreed upon in the house.

Matters related to IAP mumbai website:
Dr. Menon announced that the IAP Mumbai website was updated and
relaunched thisyear during EMBICON 2013. Our executive board member Dr.
Shruti Ghatalia along with her husband Mr. Rahul Ghatalia were instrumental in
helping us upgrade the website. All the members cheered this achievement. The
issue of maintainence costs of the website was raised by Dr. Sridhar Ganapathy who
said that it would come to around Rs. 1.2 lakhs annually. To this Dr.Uday Pai
suggested that he knew of some firm which would do the same kind of maintanence
at the cost of Rs. 45,000 to 50,000 annually. Dr.Bipin Shah added that this matter
needs in depth discussion and should be dealt with in a separate meeting to discuss
the pros & cons of both the options. This was accepted by the house.
Matters related to Membership.
Number of New members enrolled – 15.
Dr Menon informed everyone that we have updated the details of all the
members in our database. Also, sms & email service along with E-newsletter
were the added privileges this year. Dr.Samir Dalwai added MBIAP should take
initiative in starting an online medical journal accessing facility on the newly
updated website for all its members. This was agreed upon by all members.
Everybody was of the opinion that we should all work together and enroll
new members of IAP Mumbai.
Matters related to membership were discussed. As decided earlier, all
Central IAP members (Life Members) from Mumbai should be accepted as
lifetime members of IAP Mumbai without additional cost since the latter is a
part of the apex body and receives financial support. All members agreed on
this. This would increase the membership of IAP Mumbai and its activities
would receive greater support. It was also agreed that only doctors having MD,
DNB, DCH degrees recognized by MCI would be eligible for Life Membership
whereas MBBS doctors would be eligible for associate membership.
