2013 January February Scoop
January / February 2013
It's a New Year
With the start of the New Year, I wanted to thank the members
of the Community Center and the Parks and Recreation staff for
making my move to Adult/Senior Programmer go smoothly. I
have learned a lot so far and look forward to learning even more
in the upcoming months.
Since the start of my new adventure in June, we had a number
of new programs; a visit with Abe Lincoln, and an afternoon
of magic with the grandkids. We have continued some of the
longstanding favorites like Prime Time Diners and the This &
That series. Many of you attended the monthly luncheons and
were entertained by a variety of professional performers. Let it
never be said that it's boring at the Community Center!
I have some amazing plans for 2013 so watch for more
information in future editions of the Scoop.
May your 2013 be filled with adventurous
trips, tasty luncheons and a variety of
intriguing activities!
Travel Expo & Party
Thursday, January 31 1:00 p.m.
Now’s the time to make your travel plans for 2013. There are
trips to very cold places like Alaska, and very warm places
like Lido Beach in sunny Sarasota, Florida. You might enjoy a
few days on a train or 14 days on a cruise ship. Whatever your
preference, we have something for you with our 2013 Travel
Expo!
Again this year we are using two tour
groups, Provident Travel and Joy Tour and
Travel. The Springdale Senior Citizens Club
will also have one-day trips available.
Please stop by the front desk or call 3463910 to reserve your seat before January 24.
Viva Las Vegas
Friday, January 25 11:30 a.m.
Join Mike Pendell as he takes us for a stroll down the
Las Vegas strip! We will be serenaded by Frankie,
Dino, Satchimo, Liza, and of course Elvis. A lovely
buffet will be served at the famous Springdale Diner
where you will enjoy homemade soups, tasty wraps,
and mouthwatering cobblers.
Don’t miss this exciting trip down the famous Las
Vegas strip!
Cost of the luncheon is $7.50/members and $10.00/
guests. Please register with payment at the front desk
by January 22.
Breakfast with
Red Skelton
Monday, February 25 10:00 a.m.
You know the old sayings, “always get a good
breakfast” and “laughter is the best medicine;” this
program is guaranteed to provide both!
Enjoy a home-style breakfast of scrambled eggs,
bacon, home fries, biscuits, and pastries. Afterwards
you can settle back and be entertained by the hilarious
Red Skelton as performed by Jennings Barnett. The
all-time favorite characters of Clem Kaddiddlehopper
and Willy Lump Lump will come alive in this lighthearted and very funny performance. Start your day
with a good breakfast and a hearty laugh!
Make your reservation at the front desk by Thursday,
February 21. $7.50/member and $10.00/ guests.

This year I asked Santa for a fat wallet and a skinny waist.
Unfortunately, he got it mixed up, and I ended up with a

Don’t Kill A Program!
Waiting until the last minute to register for an activity can
kill great programs. Sometimes the decision to cancel a
program must be made the week before the program is
scheduled to begin. Registering late may mean the class has
already been canceled due to low registration. So remember,
register early- don’t kill a program!
