Parish Nurse Ministry
The Archdiocese of
Detroit is hosting a workshop on Tuesday, January 12,
for pastors and parish staff interested in learning more
about starting a parish nurse ministry in their parishes.
Your gifts to the Catholic Services Appeal
support the parish nurse ministry, which is vital in many
of our parishes. Parish nurses are registered nurses who
provide our faithful with information, services, and
support through every phase of life. Their volunteer
ministry may include organizing flu shot clinics and
cancer support groups to blood drives and health
screenings.
Highlights of the workshop, to be held at Sacred
Heart Major Seminary from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for $5 a
person, include a talk on the value of the parish nurse
ministry and its Christian service ministry connection, as
well as a witness from a parish nurse and the perspective
of a pastor.
For more information about CSA-funded
programs, services, and ministries, go to www.AOD.org.

One of our favorite Christmas Carols to use as a
Closing is “Go Tell It On the Mountain.”
Adapted by John Wesley Work II, a descendant
of an ex-slave, the spiritual was first published in
1907 and since the true text was lost, Work
wrote the new ones while his brother Frederick
J. Work composed the hymn tune GO TELL IT
based on a Spiritual that dates back to the mid 1800’s. The two
Work brothers were notable figures in the compilation and preservation
of African-American spirituals and published them in several collections.
The importance of the mountain in the Old and New Testaments: Moses
on the mountain, the Transfiguration, is emphasized in the
refrain of the carol. With the coming of Jesus at Christmas,
we, too can ascend the mountain and joyfully proclaim the
“Good News.”
Happy New Year to all!!

2016 OLV Spring Sports Registration
Now OPEN
Registration is open to all parishioners
interested in playing CYO Baseball or Softball
(boys and girls in grade 5-8) or Lacrosse (boys
only in grade 5-8) this spring. Registration
ends January 31, 2016.
Practice starts in March. The number of teams and grade
composition of each team will be determined by the number of
registrants. Registration does not guarantee a position on a team
and try-outs may be conducted if the number of registrants
exceeds the number of openings. A student must submit a current
health status/physical (dated after April, 2015) to be considered
for a team.
If you are interested in coaching a team,
please visit the website and complete a Coach’s
Application form under Sports Registration. You
will be notified early in 2016.
See you in the Spring!

EPIPHANY OF THE LORD
Peace begins with us
A wonderful booklet authored by
Connie Clark, parent and Catholic writer,
outlines twelve simple principles for finding
and spreading peace. The key is to find what
some seem to think is so elusive but actually is
never far away—inner peace! Looking at this
journey as a road trip of sorts she offers these stepping stones as a
way to enter into God’s plan for the whole family.
1. When Jesus offers a ride, get in. Jesus is calling each and every
one of us to share the peace that is within us. Create a family
peace statement. Display it in your home. Trust that Jesus will
help you accomplish it.
2. Get more enjoyment out of your trip. Bring a map. Prayer is
how we navigate through life! It helps us to keep ourselves
focused on the things that really matter. Ask Jesus to guide
you.
3. Pack lightly. There are times when the baggage of life prevents
us from going forward. Learn self-forgiveness. Take on the
habit of spending time each day reviewing with our Lord how
he was present to you. Look to St. Ignatius of Loyola and his
“Daily Examen” for help.
4. Accept roadblocks and move on. Learning to handle conflict
in healthy ways is instrumental to finding peace. Forgiveness is
a process that will lead to peace.
5. See the sights with the eyes of a child. Who as an adult has
not thought they would love being a child again! Remember
Jesus’ own words “unless you turn and become like children,
you will not enter the kingdom of God.” Surrender everything
to Him.
6. Appreciate the scenery along the way. Knowing the true
treasures in our life leads to gratitude and that leads to peace.
Recognize God’s hand in your life.
7. Be safe, but remember that accidents will happen. Each of us
has asked God “why” at one time or another. Pain and
suffering is a part of life. We share in Jesus; suffering and
because of that we share in his dignity as well. Believe that he
will see you through.
8. Never pick up hitchhikers. Don’t give permission to anyone
(including yourself) or anything to rob you of your personal
peace. Trust in the power of God to help you.
9. Take a friend along for the ride. Find those who help you
realize that there is more good in our world than evil.
Whenever bad things happen Mr. Rogers said “look for the
helpers!”
10. Share your adventures. What Jesus has given must be shared.
Actively going out and helping others is how we spread peace
in our world. Indulge yourself in random acts of kindness.
11. Expect an incredible journey. Be who God meant you to be
and find the peace of knowing that he finds you wonderful and
amazing.
12. Listen to your trip advisors. The saints know all too well of
the challenges of finding inner peace. Look to them and
accept their help. It is there for you.

Locally Globally Eternally” Connie Clark (2015 Creative
Communications for the Parish.) This booklet is
available on amazon kindle and nook and is well
worth reading!!
